AaronIsCrunchy and one other reacted to Decay for a topic
Wait really? Yeah, really: https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/4fnyu7/seinarukana_spirit_of_eternity_sword_2_has_shipped/ Seinarukana is the semi-sequel to Aselia the Eternal, an RPG/VN hybrid that received a fan translation and a subsequent official release years ago. Here's a description courtesy of Sanahtlig: You do not need to have played Aselia first, the stories are mostly unrelated and I believe that if any of its characters make an appearance, it's pretty much just cameos. The gameplay is somewhat akin to a turn-based Ogre Battle if you've ever played those. The basis of the battles isn't a group of adventurers going on a journey and encountering monsters, but instead you control an armed force who does battle with other militarized entities, sort of like an SRPG. You move multiple parties of characters along a series of interconnected pathways and when they meet an enemy, they carry out actions in a mostly hands-off manner in accordance to the party's formation. To be perfectly honest, I did prefer the Ogre Battle games to Aselia, but I still had some fun with it. It's been in the works for ages, has been the subject of derisive jokes due to its many, many delays, but it's finally here. Kind of. I have confirmation from JAST that they're shipping out copies. We got notification a couple weeks ago that it went golden master, and just last week they said it was duplicating, but it still sort of feels like they just stealthily slipped this one out to us. It seems like they didn't want to miss a release date, so they simply never publicly set one. You can order a physical version on J-List (referral link is fuwanovel's, not mine) and get your copy shipped out now or very soon. The download version will also be made available very soon according to my JAST contact. He didn't give me an exact date but it sounds like within the next day or two. So, yeah. Surprise! It's here! edit: Download version is now available! https://www.jastusa.com/seinarukana-the-spirit-of-eternity-sword-2.html2 points -

Steam store page is up, the game should be released this monday if everything goes well (depends on how long the higher ups on steam gives their approval). You can check it out here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/463390/2 points

Sanah and Rooke already got to it, but I don't mind them offering a version with less features. I feel like this all depends on the price breakdown. So long as the full version costs about the same as other VNs of the type, it's a pretty good thing that they're also making a version that'll sell for people who don't want the features that were excluded from the full one. I saw the argument that it'll set a bad precedent for the future, but even then, so long as the pricing is fair, I don't really mind it. Who am I to judge if someone wants to buy G-Senjou and only read Haru's route for half the price? (it's actually a pretty good idea, given how generally worthless the other routes in that game are. But I digress.) If they offer an imcomplete version for a high price and then offer the previous content as DLCs for even more money then I can see people getting pissed, though. And the argument related to being pessimistic or optimistic with this is silly and I won't get into it.2 points

Bloody Chronicles [Demo/Indiegogo]
aleax reacted to IGRASILSTUDIO for a topic
Game can be found here : https://store.steampowered.com/app/455310/Bloody_Chronicles__New_Cycle_of_Death_Visual_Novel/ Just a thing before we continue, if it isn't too much to ask, we would like to post our project that fuwanovel in order to create more exposure for it; with this being our first project, it is important that we can get people in the community to know who we and what we're making. Bloody Chronicles - New Cycle of Death http://bloodychronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/about-project.png Bloody Chronicles is a visual novel and Igrasil Studio’s first project. The plot focuses on Kazuki, who has lost his parents in an accident. After graduating from the police academy, he was recruited by Igrasil, a non-governmental organization which solves murders the police deem are impossible to explain due to lack of evidence. Kazuki’s partners include the crazy and funny Ishikawa siblings, Kaoru Moriyama (the daughter of a millionaire and founder of the organization), and Suzumi, the head of the organization. http://bloodychronicles.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/character.png http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/a907fb3ec0cc6d893d9a251e0e156ea3.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/f0d134115efa90e47a6dab4cb01f6f12.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/053d1e7692d380e7b42a9403eec67ffa.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/6906237afb19e8d6a3f4223a14a284f2.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/88e9136e991d6991350263bdf4e0f1e9.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/5e639846eb1ee719e3efabf17ed1bb57.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/aab646dcf126f50e1de9dc5fbe5504ed.jpg The whole series will consist of 3 installments; the first part is “Act 1 - New Cycle of Death.” We’re aiming for the length of the entire series to consist of 40 hoursof gameplay, where the player will be able to make different decisions that will affect the ending. Like in most visual novels, the player will be able to establish close relationships with the series’ characters and get to know their personal stories. Please note that our studio aren't fans of "fanservice", so Bloody Chronicles won't be another dating sims game etc. Our game is broken into several chapters; these chapters are separated into seven days, where “Player Choices” will help or hinder the investigation. Player decisions and choices will affect the ending. http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/290b65a65925382fdacc3fc306cfc3e6.jpg Suzumi | Akito A & B | Kaoru | Aki oh, we won't tell you how to get the "DARK" ending... it's a secret! φ(゚ロ゚*)ノ Bloody Chronicles can be classified as a mystery, drama, slice of life, and action; the plot takes place in a modern day fictional universe called Utna http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/b7728499757d82b0b0ff1968d74fc3e9.jpg http://prefundia.com/uploads/projects/8099/6ed32b5031e8e5c8edb4d87bf36a006a.jpg Each of the character designs will include casual clothes, organization uniforms, unique poses, and different facial expressions. Peaceful School Life [Discussion]
Darklord Rooke reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Is it seriously an otaku pleasure to always have every slice of life/moege anime/visual novel revolve around the male protagonist enjoying a peaceful and fun school life? Has anyone noticed that every description uses this exact same format and near identical wording every time? Also, why does every description always end with something along the lines of how his fun days are just beginning?1 point -

Having played the PSP version myself (which is the same as the 3DS one in terms of story) I would say you should be fine if you buy it. The point I tried making was that the PC version is also worth it. Considering you didn't play either yet, you can get both, but just the 3DS version will still give you the whole story.1 point

In all honesty though. If you went to Japan and went around telling new people you met that you like playing moeges and eroge, they would treat you with the same disdain they do with regular Japanese who are obsessed with this stuff. In fact, they may even think you are weirder because you are a foreigner in to that stuff. I remember one of my Japanese friends giving me the advice when I go to Japan to say that I like "manga", but to avoid mentioning anime or games, because those still have negative connotations. So yeah... OP: If the point of this thread is to complain about how over used and boring the High School setting is in VNs. Well then I completely agree with you. I hate how over fucking used it is. And this is also coming from somebody who liked their high school days. I really don't see why VN content creators can't get more creative with their settings... I mean, a part of me knows why they continue to do this bullshit, but it still bothers me nonetheless.1 point

To some extent. The heroes being who they are and the general atmosphere of the game are enough to give it value, though whether that'd make up for reading romance you're not interested in is up to the individual. So long as they don't go in with high expectations in the history front, it should be pretty fun.1 point -

Somehow this April we had many exciting release of VN and in here we managed to had the exciting VN discussion opened by 4 different people (Dangan Ronpa 2 by me, Tokyo Babel by Rooke, Dracu Riot by Arcadeotic, and now Seinarukana by Decay). Actually I want to open Seinarukana discussion here, but I still didn't knew if the timing was off or not. Sorry, just want to express my opinion a little bit here. Anyway, Seinarukana translation was surely had many history here from back at 2012. I'll give some detail about this game later in term of seiyuu and the history of the translation. Anyway, had fun and use this thread as Seinarukana discussion page here. Oh, I already want to post aroduc's thought in regard of translation from the moment he wrote it, but here's his thought for anyone who want to know in regard of translation for Seinarukana. As for me, hopefully by end of April I'll got this game.1 point -
Officially, Aselia's ending is canon, incidentally. This was around the fifteenth game I played after starting my trip through untranslated VNs, and, to be blunt, the gameplay is greatly improved. However, in terms of the story, it is somewhat less compelling, if more complex.1 point

Salutations; thought I might as well use this forum for its intended purpose and drop a line. Been playing visual novels on and off since 2012 (bet you can't guess which one I played first). I'm very interested in fiction, and VNs were a kind of storytelling media that was brand new to me (still is, really). That developed into a small hobby, but until now I've never entered into the visual novel community, as it were. So, in frequenting these forums I hope to discuss them, rather than just playing, and thus gain a greater understanding of the medium. And possibly shitpost from time to time. That's all; see ya around.1 point -

I like people who can do the following: Given a controversial topic that the person has a strong opinion on, he/she can argue with people who hold an opposing viewpoint without resorting to logical fallacies or name-calling. The person can summarize and repeat the opposing viewpoint in an objective manner that satisfies those who hold it. The person can then effectively argue the merits of the opposing viewpoint to those who share his viewpoint. I find that people who can do this are rare and valuable to have as friends and confidants.1 point -

Sekai Project April Q&A Livestream highlights
VirginSmasher reacted to kyrt for a topic
Hopefully dovac realizes that visual novel fans are not going to pay for a game twice and those who want an 18+ version are not going to support an all ages version. Hopefully they release them simultaneously so they can accurately see the difference in sales. By releasing an all ages version and then an adult version months later it would not be giving them accurate information. Even people that originally had an interest will likely just find other things to buy if they wait too long in between the all age and 18+ release. At least they're talking in a better direction hopefully at the next convention they actually discuss 18+ titles and hopefully this isn't just talking out the ass for PR. The saying goes actions speak louder than words...let's wait and see. As for wagamama anime it sucks. So hopefully they don't try to appeal to the western market in the hopes the anime actually does well. They'd be better off targeting 18+ simply because the amount of people watching and actually giving a damn for wagamama is minute compared to almost any other anime this season. It doesn't help that most anime fans do not give a shit about shorts.1 point -

Akihabara Guidebook Preview - Part 01
Hanako reacted to OriginalRen for a topic
Visiting Japan sometime in the near future? Want a small preview into what sorts of goodies will be featured in the Akihabara guidebook I am currently working on for the end of the year? Here is the 1st part of a quick guide all about the strip. Use it to help you understand a little bit of fun history about the district of Akihabara, or just read it for fun! Whatever the reason, if you'd like me to add more stores and give you more of a preview in the future, let me know. The reason I made this post was to give some of you an idea of how much time and effort I am putting into this guide, and how it is completely different from the other guides out there (if they exist). While a lot of this content is featured on my YouTube channel, not all of you watch that, so here is a nice little condensed bit of information for those that appreciate text more. You can now see why I want to hire a professional photographer, and why I think translating this into a multitude of languages would be awesome. Again, I am serious about the Kickstarter and really want to make this a reality. Enjoy! Important: When checking out stores, refer to the map located in the spoiler tag below. Center of Akihabara: Sofmap #2: Akihabara Radio Kaikan: Onoden + Laox: Volks: Random Electronic Shops: Sofmap #1 + Sega Arcades: Adores Karaoke: Random Hobby Shops: Akky Souvenir Shops: Comic Zin: Sofmap #3: Taito Game Station: Akiba Zone: Comic Toranoana: Don Quixote + Tsukumo: Roll&Roll Station + Melonbooks + Tenplant: Getchu: Kimidore Wallscroll: TamTam Hobby Shop: Figure Hobby Shop: Akiba Island: And that's the end of the 1st part.
