Princess Maker 2 Refine To Be Released For The West
Suzu Fanatic and 4 others reacted to XReaper for a topic
As the title suggests, after what feels like an era of ruthless opression through the modern and cute, studio Gainax in comradeship with the korean publisher CFK finally decided on maning up against todays filth, bringing over the horrendously adorable "Princess Maker 2 Refine" for a mere sum of 19,99$, even willing to offer a 20 percentual discount to the fast and utmost longing. Rejoice! edit: seems its sales-numbers will determine if a possible release of the series later installments might become a reality as well, something which hasn´t been ruled out by the ones responsible as of yet. http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/001/373/1373026/5 points -

Gleam Garden is a semi-chuuni VN by the makers of Lovesick Puppies, Cosmic Cute. While it isn't amongst the VNs I love the most, it was nonetheless a pleasant memory, so I chose to dig it out of the pile and play it again this week. Edit: I should mention that while this VN does have action scenes, a lot of the VN is about the changes in the characters, especially the heroines, as they learn to accept their sins, their past, and the restrictions placed on their future by their situation. First, the setting... in the world this is based in, some time before the story begins (there are no specifics as to when precisely things started) people began awakening to abilities called 'Gleam'. These abilities ignore physical laws and common sense to manifest in response to the stress and pain of their hosts (think of Gleams as something like a parasite born of the human psyche). These abilities are immensely powerful and often deadly. Unfortunately, those who awake to these abilities are universally incapable of controlling them immediately, and as a result, they inevitably cause tragedies. As a result, the 'Witches', as they are called, are social pariahs that are legitimately imprisoned and legally persecuted in order to keep them from harming the rest of society. To be specific, immediately after they awaken to their abilities, Witches are sent to facilities where they either learn to control their abilities before the hypnotic suggestions and drugs that keep their abilities from running wild stop having an effect... or are lobotomized and turned into research subjects. Even when they complete mastering their abilities, Witches live their lives under constant supervision (ranging from the equivalent of a probation officer to forced cohabitation with a non-Witch guardian). To be blunt, it sucks to be a Witch in this setting, and all of the heroines in this VN are Witches, the protagonist being a former Witch-hunter whose job is now to teach them to control their abilities. I'm inordinately fond of this game's protagonist... if only because the world through his eyes is so cool. He is definitely the stoic type (ie. breaks his own fingers one by one and doesn't even change his expression) and capable of an amazing degree of ruthlessness when seeking a goal. It isn't that he is cold-blooded precisely... he is actually a very compassionate human being. However, his compassion doesn't impinge on his objectivity at all, as he is quite willing to be brutal with others if he thinks that is what is necessary to fulfill his duty. When he sees the best way to fulfill those duties, even if it is morally reprehensible or personally distasteful, he won't hesitate to take action. He is also a pervert... in the classic sense. He loves nothing more than surfing ero-sites in his free time, and he doesn't have a drop of shame to his nature. That makes him rather funny. The VN is split into a common route and five heroine routes. The first three routes available to you are Sakurako, Chitose, and Yuma. When you finish those routes, you can play Shirayuki's route, which reveals the background of not only her but one of the major antagonists of the story overall, then Luna's route, which reveals everything, including the issues with the protagonist's own past. Sakurako is a martial artist from a long line of such people, and her ability allows her to manifest shadows, make them solid, and manipulate them at will (an obviously dangerous ability, lol). She is straightforward in personality, thinking in straight lines and more than a little narrow-visioned. Chitose is... an odd contradiction. She is a sports-loving, cheerful girl... who is as lazy as hell when people let her be. However, she is also capable of an extreme degree of devotion to those she cares about, to the point of ignoring her own well-being in the process. Her Gleam is 'good luck', which it drains from other people to feed the luck of the user. Yuma... is a kind-hearted otaku girl. She is inordinately fond of BL literature and is constantly indulging in erotic fantasies inside her head. However, she is also surprisingly unwilling to trust others, despite her seemingly kind and gentle nature. Her Gleam is a type of empathy combined with psychometric aspects. Shirayuki is... inscrutable. It's hard to get a good grasp of her personality, outside of an obsessive love of cute things (fuwafuwa na mono, as she puts it). She tends to have even worse tunnel vision than Sakurako. Her Gleam allows her to make objects invisible. Luna is... a spoiler, lol. Sorry, telling you anything about Luna whatsoever will spoil the game, so I'll leave her at that. I can't even tell you her Gleam without spoiling things. This game's paths are all solid in their own way, but it should be noted that the first three paths tend to be 'normal' in the sense that once the heroines' major personal issues are resolved, they just get on with their lives with the protagonist. Shirayuki's and Luna's paths are... different, if only because they reveal a good deal of evil that lies behind the scenes in the other paths that is impossible to ignore and leaves nothing unchanged. Overall, this is a good and solid VN, with a truly fascinating setting and set of characters.1 point

GHOST IN THE SHELL FILTHY WHITEWASHING 2016
Infernoplex reacted to Lucius for a topic
Except that the oversaturated white-guilt movies these days always have to do with the big bad white men enslaving the poor, penniless nigger. Oh yeah, America totally doesn't cast based on race and ethnicity. Americans totally don't complain about black people being racially miscast ("WE NEED MORE BLACK PEOPLE IN MOVIES AND COMICS; DIVERSITY FTW!"). Americans certainly don't bitch about women being oppressed in the industry by men stealing their jobs (and vice versa with MGTOW and feminists). Americans certainly don't try to shove down our throats their obsession with gay men and gay rights in movies, furthering their love for that diversity bullshit. Totally unheard of. You're totally right, guys. I don't know what I was thinking when calling out on the hypocrisy of American SJWs. It's not like such double-standards exist among any 'ism' complaints from sex to race. What do I know, right? I'm just a filthy 'sexpat' Asian.1 point -

What???? Really?????? Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just looking at this thread and suddenly I saw Sakura Maid release news here. I was always looking forward to Sakura new VN there and now there's two sudden release here. Looks interesting, and thanks Infernoplex to give me this wonderful news. PS - Okay, I didn't knew of how to write sarcasm well, so forgive me for some shortcoming. Oh, for more info actually I already saw Nova premise a little while ago, and I would like to said maybe I should expected dense knight as MC and two squires who somehow fall in love with MC there (Actually, looks like this is the premise of all Sakura games which had one male MC and several girls out there). To answer Infernoplex question, I think Sakura series sales was good enough, otherwise we wouldn't had many Sakura games here although it's questionable though if anyone else want to buy all Sakura games. That's all for my opinion here.1 point -

Random VNs: Gleam Garden no Shoujo
ChaosRaven reacted to Clephas for a blog entry
The protagonist is a good person at heart. However, these girls aren't living on their own or with their families. They are living in a semi-prison facility that is made up of living quarters, a mess hall, administrative buildings, a school portion (including a ground for exercise), and the research labs (incidentally, the one CG early on in the research labs is... guro). While he is a dog of the state, in this case his duty is to see to it that the girls can one day rejoin society, even if it is only in the limited fashion available to Witches. Edit: Another thing you need to keep in mind is that 'ruthless' doesn't necessarily mean evil. It just means that he is willing to take actions that are morally reprehensible for the sake of fulfilling a goal. That describes a lot of people others consider virtuous... Edit2: Also, he isn't sadistic or unnecessarily cruel. He is even kind whenever circumstances allow him to be... and to the very limit of what circumstances allow him to be. He is also essentially fair-minded. The implant in the girls' ears that can inject suppression drugs or zap them with electricity... he only uses the electricity part once in the entire VN, and then he only does it because drastic measures are necessary, not because he wants to.1 point -
this is actually a concern for me, since fanservice was the reason why I left anime in favor of VNs1 point

Sooooo, I just finished ef -the first tale- and it was alright. The first story honestly made me pretty angry (there's a special place in hell for love triangle plot lines, in my opinion, probably contributes to my general dislike of Flowers), but I actually rather liked the second one, about Shindo Kei. It made me actually really like her, which is an achievement seeing as not only did I dislike her at first, but she fits in to some of my least favorite archetypes. Her development more than made up for that, though. The VN is cinematic in a way that I haven't really seen before. I could swear there are more CG than scenes with sprites and backgrounds, which is ridiculous (in the best way imaginable, of course ). The music is also really nice and it has a very good atmosphere; I have a soft spot for quiet, calm piano pieces, and I absolutely adore the track "wish". Now for prediction stuff: The second part of ef should be pretty great. For the most part I liked First Tale, and I hear it gets soul-crushingly depressing (which I do so enjoy ). And I know from experience that Minori actually so I'm looking forward to this a lot.1 point

When Corona Blossom came out recently, I once again came face to face with a niche trend in gaming that has roots back in the nineties era console games... video games that, rather than presenting a full story in and of themselves (even if they are intended to have sequels), instead are released in parts. Now, I thought about why this kind of game production method has never really caught on... and it took me all of ten seconds to remember why. Let's take the Shenmue series. Really and truly, the Shenmue series of games is one story that is nowhere near complete. Shenmue was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 1999 and it was a seriously eye-popping experience for me at the time. I'd never played a game that included so many varying elements to let you throw yourself into the main character's story, and all the side-quests and other stuff there was to mess around with only made it that more interesting. Unfortunately, it is seventeen years later and the series still isn't complete. Heck, since Shenmue 2 was released on the original xbox in 2002, there hadn't been a peep about the third game... until last year. And that is the real danger with this kind of game series... the danger of never getting the complete story or having to wait decades for the next entry in a story that is obviously and blatantly left incomplete. Another problem with this type of game is illustrated with the Xenosaga series... Xenosaga was the spiritual successor to Xenogears on the psx, and it had a psychedelic meta-fiction story that would have made Mr Kojima proud... but in exchange, the makers ended up treating each part of what was supposed to be the same game in pieces as an individual game... which resulted in huge variance between each entry in both gameplay quality and story. To be blunt, Xenosaga's original game does an excellent, close to perfect job of dragging you into the science-fantasy world in question. Unfortunately, Xenosaga 2 botched everything... literally. In terms of scale, it was far more limited than Xenosaga 2 and the actual gameplay was... unpleasant and counter-intuitive for the average jrpg-gamer of the time. Naturally, this made it something of a flop with the fanbase. As a result they hurried to put out Xenosaga 3, which aborted or cut short almost all of the story that was meant to have been put in for two or even three more parts. In this case, the series was completed... but none of the ambitions that caused the immensely complex and interesting setting involved survived the holocaust of the game's second entry. Generally speaking, games made in parts tend to be immensely frustrating for the consumer. A friend of mine recently replayed the Xenosaga series and immediately said "Good god! I didn't realize how much they fucked up with 2 at the time, but it is blatantly obvious now." It is far harder to maintain a standard of quality across all parts, and cohesion is usually the first thing to be sacrificed. Thus, don't expect me to ever praise a decision to release a game in parts.1 point

Regarding Re:Zero's ending, I feel like they just chickened out. Even if they aren't sure of a second season, that super cheesy, tame ending was very unfitting. People who have a strong interest will flock to the LN anyway, and anyone who was watching the anime just "because" won't care at all. So I don't see why they decided to go for an ending that sacrifices the series' coherence and one of Re:Zero's charm point just to content the minority of watchers who anyway won't really care or buy their products. A half-assed ending in exchange of this ending being somewhat closed. Can't say I find it a sound decision, be it for quality or economically.1 point

Well, what's bad about that? If I wanted "western art" i'd read Graphic Novels, Comic Books or Franco-Belgian Comics. But I am not, only reason why I am even slightly interested in some OELVN is due to what catched my attention first, it's the great anime art, which not alot of them have that. Main reason why I was drawn unto backing The Human Reignition Project is because I got attracted to the great anime art by your super talented Pinoy artist Kätzchen: http://rated-katzchen.deviantart.com/ https://twitter.com/RatedKatzchen https://www.facebook.com/ratedkatzchen/ https://www.patreon.com/ratedkatzchen Seriously the few OELVN who uses western art won't even get the time of day from me, same for the ones who got crappy art (which is quite alot of them actually).1 point

As an EVN developer, it's kind of frustrating to see this discussion a lot, with the same points being brought up, even when they're not true anymore (three or four years ago? Yeah, totally). I see the whole "EVN's are just wannabe JVN's and will never get anywhere until they stop copying tropes," as if that's the only thing getting made, but honestly that hasn't really been the case in a long time. Yes, there are still lotsa games like that getting made - I'm even working on one that's similar, myself - but the notion that nothing else exists is outdated. I'll give some examples: Shameless self-mention first - Highway Blossoms, a game that I helped create. It's a GxG kinetic novel set in the American southwest. Asphyxia - Genderbent British Romantic poets. Menagerie (NSFW) - I haven't played this one, so I don't want to misrepresent it in a summary, but click the link and you should see what it's about. Selenon Rising - Sci-fi/mystery/noir Caramel Mokaccino - A dating sim with a female protagonist that lets you pursue men, women, and polyamorous relationships, with various gameplay elements Yeah, most games tend to use anime art rather than "Western" art, I'll give you that. But I think that's to be expected - of course most EVN devs are JVN fans. What else would we be? EVN's haven't been even close to mainstream long enough for there to be a robust community that's never touched a Japanese VN. Even Lemmasoft, which is the largest EVN-specific community, has a long history rooted in JVN fandom. So give it time, and maybe that'll change. But considering that EVN's have only really been something that people took note of since Katawa Shoujo in 2012, I'd say we're doing pretty well for ourselves as it is. And you know what? The reason that there continue to be tons of fanservicey, ecchi games dominating the EVN market is because that's still what sells. People - SO many people - say that they want to see EVN's with a more Western style, and then so few of them follow up on it with their wallet. Success doesn't just come from making good games, it comes from people giving those good games a shot too. I'm not saying that consumers have an obligation to buy bad games to support the cause. I'm saying don't write off an entire subset of games because you haven't tried one in half a decade.1 point

1. Someone make a petition to abolish school settings, please. The reason I dislike school settings most of the time is not because I think school settings can't work, it's because most of the time it's simply there as a plot device to make the characters have classes and have an easy excuse to meet each other, but other than that it never serves any logical purpose half the time. I know it's because of the whole "highschool girl" fetish, but still, it's stupid if it's just there for the sake of being there. 2. "The beautiful transfer student", I'm sooooooooo tired of seeing this trope, it's the biggest cop out to introduce a character ever and I generally tend to hate whoever the heroine is, unless they make a good excuse for their existence. Why is it that a main character always has to magically transfer into a school in the middle of a freaking semester? I just don't get it. This is also the result of having mandatory school settings in everything. 3. Sex talk in VNs is also pretty horrible sometimes. Now I know Japanese pornography is different than western pornography in that they usually tend to have a lot of descriptive dialogue, but while I'm used to and enjoy it most times, sometimes it gets so ridiculous, like the heroine describing how the protagonist's penis is going down her throat while she's actively sucking on it. You don't have to tell me, I can see it happening, and you sound like you have a baguette stuck in your mouth! 4. Protagonists who just want to live a peaceful, undisturbed life. To some extent, I can sympathize with someone who just wants peace and quiet, I myself enjoy it too, but why are so many protagonists like this, and why are so many protagonists like this actively getting involved in shit they know is going to ruin their peace and quiet? Japan pls. 5. [MOTHER FUCKING SAKURA PETALS EVERY FUCKING WHERE I CAN'T EVEN SEE 5 FT IN FRONT OF ME] 6. Ejaculating inside and never getting anyone pregnant. Because it's a safe day every day of the month. 7. "Asspussy". No. It's an ass. 8. "Mouthpussy". No. It's a mouth. 9. "*anything*pussy". Go fuck yourself.1 point
