Elsewhere High - Chapter 1 Welcome to Elsewhere High, "a school for exceptional children." In this visual novel, players are able to immerse themselves in the world of the outcast. Each student at Elsewhere High has fallen short of expectations at their original high school; they've flunked out, skipped class, wrote threatening notes, or grew to be a reprehensible bully. The only prerequisite to admission is failure. Friendships spawn, and feuds arise, but amidst the teen drama and angst it quickly becomes clear that Elsewhere is much, much more than it seems. Chapter one is the first chapter in a planned multi-chapter series that is releasing absolutely free of charge. Subsequent chapters will be sold at a small cost. Main Characters: And here's some screen shots just for fun! Elsewhere High is also running a Greenlight campaign over on Steam! If you'd like to support this project, please consider giving it an upvote on Greenlight. You can reach it's page here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=782686123 The first chapter will take fast readers about an hour to complete, and slow readers upward of two hours. The novel is mostly kinetic: it offers the reader choices in dialogue and optional scenes, but ultimately will lead all readers to the same place. So, with all of that said, if you'd like to check out the first chapter of Elsewhere High, here is a link to the download page hosted at itch.io! https://penholder.itch.io/elsewhere-high-chapter-1-a-visual-novel-2 points

Welcome to Carlyle Review
masster_auron reacted to littleshogun for a blog entry
Visual Novel Translation Status (11/19/2016) Welcome to my VNTS Review for this week, and as for the title since we had Enigma as the image header I thought that I'll just using the setting from Enigma (Carlyle) to made the word akin to the welcome at When They Cry series (They had 'Welcome to Hinamizawa' for Higurashi and 'Welcome to Rokkenjima' for Umineko). As for the VN, congratulations to Fruitbat Factory and PhleBuster as the employee of Fruitbat Factory (Or should I said Phlebas who was quite known as Dakkodango Translation staff back at 2010, although I guess it was quite obvious) for the release of Enigma, and of course thanks to Conjueror too as the translator. In regard of Enigma, I think it was quite positive looking from Kaguya enjoying this and gave 5 stars here for the review. Also for now the VNDB score was at 8.17 although to be honest it's still not enough though because it was only had 9 votes (Much less than Fata Morgana when back there was only had 62 votes). For me, well perhaps I will take this game in the future. Other than Enigma release, this week we also had Shuffle released on Steam which was only PS2 port according to some people, so obviously there will be no sex scene there duh (Nevermind, it's just like Dracu Riot patch release ie slip up release. But I'd decided to still gave my comment). As for my response, well I'm already completed this so I think I'll not that interested with Steam port, and I'd already knew some VN that was better than Shuffle. But it's still one of my first serious eroge, and nothing could change that. Oh, since we had Shuffle release on Steam might as well say rest in peace to the writer, Argobarrier who passed away back at March. As for MoeNovel, still not clear whether it's new release or just one of already released VN go translated. Let's just wait and see, although I said that there's a chance that MoeNovel will using crowdfund and chapter based release if they developed new VN according to the current trend. As for the roundup for the translation progress, first of all once again Mangagamer made surprise update and I'd already listed it at last VNTS Review. So here's the progress below and I'd already commented about it at my last VNTS Review too. That's all for relisting of Mangagamer updates here. This week Sekai also at their usual, although it was still good though so noting much to comment here. For roundup Chrono Clock was at 64.66% translated (At least it was sped up from last week progress), Maitetsu was at 59.69% translated, Tenshin Ranman was at 68.654% translated, Bokukotsu was at 15.93% translated, and Princess Knight Chapter 2 was at 98.27% translated. For the info of releases, we had both of Nashvile and Japanese School Life which will be released at three days later (November 23rd). From the first look, Nashvile was some kind of yuri VN which apparently something alike Highway Blossom, while Japanese one sounds like Go Go Nippon only with also transferring school although looks like the description was spoiling all of the story though. That's all for Sekai For fan translation, this week we had Tsui Yuri managed to had 16.5% retranslated; Loverable was at 32.04% translated, 12.97% TLC-ed, 8.89% edited, and 5.21% QC-ed (Very nice progress there, and by the way the translation team was preparing trial patch for Loverable); Majokoi was at 58.1% translated and 43.8% edited (Fred said that there's some nice progress from both of Cinderella and Kozue's routes translation); and finally this week we had Sayooshi finally reaching 40% translated mark (Or to be exact at 40.2% translated). Oh, and this week we also had Ushieta was already pass a quarter mark translated here (27.5% translated), although too bad though that they plan for releasing partial patch was cancelled because of some technicality difficulty according to this post (Good luck). For last update here, finally ToHeart 2 getting a proofreader and hopefully from now it'll be smooth sailing to the finishing touch. That's all for this week VNTS, and see you next week. PS - Today finally Arcadeotic gave his long awaited update here. So let me write the updates for both of Bishoujo Mangekyou progress. For Bishoujo Mangekyou 1 we got the progress at 96% edited, 91% QC-ed, and 48% TLC-ed; and as for 2.5 we got 49% translated there (Almost halfway) and 45% TLC-ed. That's all for the update, and thanks.1 point -

Is it just me or are the screenshot links and character introductions not working? Nevermind, work blocked it, my bad. Looks cool! I heartily approve of you not using Japanese names and places for no meaningful reason in a Western release. Good luck!1 point -

I'm going to be blunt... for some reason, the 'Otome' series of trap-protagonist ojousama-ge by Ensemble seems to be incapable of fulfilling the promise of Otome ga Tsumugu Koi no Canvas in any of its follow-up games. Koi no Canvas was, for better or worse, one of the single best charage I've ever played, with strong characterizations for all of the characters (including the protagonist) full voices for all characters (later Otome series games all had voiced protagonists, though), and superlative individual paths with an actual story tailor-made to match both the protagonist and the individual heroines. Unfortunately, none of the Otome series games since has gotten anywhere close to doing what Koi no Canvas managed, and this one isn't an exception. I will say that it starts out really well... the protagonist is fully-voiced and capable in his own field (in this case cooking), and his actions throughout the VN show him to be competent... but the romantic portions, the characterization of the heroines, and the actual development of the heroine paths are all... second-rate. The few good points in this VN stand out so well precisely because the rest is so poorly-done. As an example, the humor is actually pretty good, and the protagonist's reactions to most situations are either funny or ones that leave you with a positive impression of him. Unfortunately, there are certain aspects that absolutely drive me insane reading this VN. The heroine routes are truncated and devoid of drama (seriously, you can't have ojousama-ge without a controlling parent or a character with major personal issues, but none of that really exists here). The romance is sudden and makes little sense. Worse, it is pretty much impossible to develop an emotional connection even to the protagonist, because every time it seems like they might sadden you with his past (he is an orphan, for instance), they deliberately cut it short or interject the protagonist's general lack of care for the issue in question. After Koi no Canvas, this series has continually sabotaged itself with this kind of BS, and I'm actually crying right now at the sheer wasted potential of the characters in this story. It is obvious the writer wanted to do more, as well... because there are a lot of signs throughout the heroine routes of cut scenes or abrupt story movements that seem awkward/amateurish. Considering the experience of this team, even aside from this series, it seems a bit ridiculous that they would have tripped so many landmines in a single game (I mean, one of the writers worked on Sakura, Sakimashita... and that game is very, very good), and I honestly think that if Will wants to stop hemorrhaging cash, it needs to stop breaking up its best teams (the Evolimit team) or letting total incompetents get involved with story and characterization (referring to the Imouto Paradise writer who was also involved with this and the other Otome series games after Koi no Canvas).1 point

I made a prototype of text hooker for emulated games
ArkTicSS reacted to MX-Futhark for a topic
Hi everyone, I'd like to present an embryo of text hooker I made. Well, at this stage, the actual hooking part is not really there, but bear with me. I already posted this on /r/visualnovels, so this will basically be the exact same post as what is already on reddit. Without further ado: the little guy's name is "Hook Any Text", HAT for short. HAT is simply a plugin for Cheat Engine and doesn't quite live up to its name yet, but it's usable with games that are not covered by the traditional tools: AGTH, ITH and VNR. Rather than talking at length about what it does, what it doesn't and how it came to be, here is a presentation of what its use looks like: demo Lots of stuff that you can skip: I actually got the idea by trying to get VNR to work with Fate/Extra CCC. Long story short: it didn't. I later stumbled upon this tutorial. The demo above should be very similar to what you can read in this link. After reading this, I got the idea to make a program that would automate the last part, that is, copy-pasting the hexadecimal data and converting it for every new line of dialog. The hooking part is still left to the user. I figured it could serve as a fallback method for when the other major text hookers mentioned above don't work. This is not limited to emulation, contrary to the title of this post. But I needed to lure you in, right? The great advantage of this method is that it does not depend on an engine or an emulator. The game doesn't have to be a visual novel for its text to be hooked. The problems are however numerous: Some engines do not not store their strings in such an easily accessible way. I failed to make HAT work with Kirikiri and Unity games, for example. The steps required to first find where the text is stored in memory require the user to write Japanese. Not much, and only once, but that is still a bit of a turn-off when you can't decipher moon runes and want to use this kind of tool to feed the text to a machine translation program. There are solutions to this problem, though. What it does:Detect changes convert the hexadecimal data selected in the memory view of Cheat Engine. It then puts the result of the conversion in the clipboard.Detect the encoding used by the game, provided it is not an exotic one (Pokemon games, for example, won't work with HAT because of their proprietary encoding)What is does not (yet):Automatically find the textual dataAdapt its behaviour based on the engine on the engine of the gameAttempt to be user friendlyWhen you should use it:You tried every other text hooking tools and they didn't work. You want to help the project by reporting the bugs you can find and help me keep track of the games it works with.I successfully use HAT to play Fate/Extra CCC and 11eyes Crossover on PPSSPP and JPCSP, Sora no Otoshimono Forte - Dreamy Season on DeSmuME, or Monster Girl Quest, among others. Some more stuff that you should not skip: If you want to hook the text of a game on emulator, try HAT. It may work and it may not, but it's worth trying. Follow these steps: Download it here.Install it like this.RTFMMore information in the other pages of the wiki. To developers out there: here is the GitHub page. Thanks for reading. I'd be very grateful to have some feedback on it. Remember that the project is still VERY young, but feel free to speak your mind. General questions, features you would like to see, bugs you detected, games it worked/didn't work with, bad grammar in the wiki... anything constructive would help me. ---------- PS: Sorry if this is not the right place, I couldn't find a fitting section for this kind of post. I count on the mods to move it where it belongs if necessary.1 point -

Need help finding a few unTLed VNs
Dergonu reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Speaking about recommendation here, to be honest I'm not that experienced yet, but let's see what I could suggest here. I think in general any of Eushully games could qualify as chuuni, and for Eushully games that I was interested there was two. Soukoku no Arterial were had card battle and thrown into another world plot (But first two chapters were alike usual moege ie school life) and Madou Koukaku was had almost same gameplay as Sengoku Rance (Also deal with old time setting). I knew that those two were had translation patch, but since the patch was using MT might as well treated those two as untranslated. By the way those two was full of gameplay. If you want some of sci fi, maybe Flyable Heart and it's fandisc could count (Play untranslated one) although it's only apparent at some route though and very later at that (It's mostly moege by the way). Or if you like Frontwing maybe Island could be good, and since you could survive Maggot Bait there, why not upped it to Tokyo Necro then if you look for more sci fi? And if you like crime solving, actually there's Kara no Shoujo duology and Cartagra which was translated but if you interested with untranslated one, maybe this could be good. And perhaps you could also try Tokeijikake trilogy if only there's a tag detective work for the trilogy back at VNDB. That's all for my recommendations here, and hope it'll be help.1 point -
Sci-fi Fake Azure Arcology Re:Birth colony (same series) Komorebi no Nostalgica Swords and sorcery (maybe) Fantasy Tiny Dungeon series (swords and sorcery, but somewhat comedic, no kings/queens) Princess Frontier Racial Merge Light Chuuni Sinclient ExE Hatsuru Koto naki Mirai Yori Izuna Zanshinken Yurikago yori Tenshi made Ancient Japan Sorry... as far as I know this doesn't exist Mystery type Nanairo Reincarnation Akeiro Kaikitan Edit: Rosebleu's last few works, Valkyrie Runabout and Sekasuku are both fantasy where the protagonist is or has been transported to another, medieval world. Valkyrie Runabout is the aftermath, whereas Sekasuku does a bit of battling.1 point

Try one of Eushully's games. I recommend Ikusa Megami Zero. You could also try Baldr Force EXE, which unlike the others in the Baldr series isn't slated to be translated and probably never will be.1 point

This will be released as a special gift to all of our backers if we can hit 50% by December 15th. We also want to take time out to mention two other visual novels, one still in the midst of their Kickstarter campaign. The first, from YesterJoy Games, is Legend of Rune a boy love/yaoi title. I played through it a few days ago and I was wholly impressed. Please check out their demo and consider pre-ordering the game. The second, </reality>, from Fancy Fish Games, is visual novel that tackles the concept of existence and VR. The game isn’t afraid to try new things and succeeds with all of them. Download their demo here and please consider backing their Kickstarter. Don’t forget our Thunderclap! Find it here.1 point

Restart
mitchhamilton reacted to Arcadeotic for a blog entry
Truly, I am sorry. The last update was three weeks ago, and in that period of time, I’ve had a bunch of things happen to me, both good and bad. First up, I was facing a little bit of an identity crisis after two, three years of nothing of the sort. Now, this was quite big, which did block my progress for a while, but I still got some done and posted an update that week. The after-shocks, however, did ripple for a bit longer. Worry not, I’m all over it, and a better person due to it, but that did happen and did chip at my motivation to both translate and to make updates. I don’t have a habit of having these crises, but nonetheless, I hope I have your understanding. Secondly, the good. I had my 18th birthday party celebrated by my most close and loved ones, as you may have seen from my Twitter, and that did somewhat chop off my attempts at translating and making updates. Otherwise, it was quite nice. I saw some relatives I haven’t seen for a long time, as well as my closest friend. All in all, it was very nice. Now that we’ve done with the reasons for my absence, let’s go to the project updates. Biman -1- As for BIman1, past these weeks, the progress’s been good and steady as always. There was a miscalculation on my part in the previous update, so I apologise for that. Anyways, there has been a decent amount of progress nonetheless and everyone on the team has been quite busy, so fear not. Biman -2.5- On to a more pressing part of the projects. As I stated above, I’m sad to say, but I was lacking the dedication, motivation, and the time to translate almost at all in these past weeks as well as school getting respectably harder as weeks passed on Now, I have gotten some of my motivation back a bit, but the progress can be a bit slower than before, but I will keep translating, so do not worry, it’ll just be a slower phase for a while. Thank you for understanding.1 point -
