  2. So I went over the 1000 post limit and will be kicked off of Fuwanovel soon, to make room for a new shitposter... wait, nevermind, @Tay just said that's not how it works and that I'm stuck here. I apologize in advance for your punishment. @solidbatman almost done writing DPRK. Let me know when something pops up and maybe this time I'll be more timely about getting the review in. @Flutterz I love you, man. Like how Hikki loves Totsuka you damned trap. @Decay I know you stopped following me on Twitter. Thought you snuck off, did you? I SEE ALL TANOOKI MAN!!! @Kaguya You seem almost normal lately. Must be the effects of Neptunia or something. Then again, me saying someone seems normal might not be all as great as it sounds. @Fiddle Has a better vocabulary then 99% of the known internet. Or he has one hell of a thesaurus. He enjoys long walks on the beach and discussing his feelings over anime marathons. @Rose I call dibs on your F/GO account after you mysteriously disappear... WAIT FORGET THAT LAST PART!!! Pretty sure there's more. Post your name and I'll randomly make up something about you that might sound almost believable. Much Love - Me.

    Hentai As An Art Form

All art is in the eye of the beholder. If it touches you intimately as you look at it, read it, watch it, etc. then it can, in your point of view, be considered art. Only rich snobs, Eurotrash 'artists' and 'art critics', and cultural snobs think otherwise.

  4. The thread "Post pics you like" lives off the posts made by a single user, Jun Inoue. If not for Jun, the thread would hardly have any posts, and Fuwa would be a cold and sad place without proper memes to fuel its users' daily requirement. Jun's ability to find funny pictures and gifs to share with Fuwanovel is treasured and loved by all, and the site has not seen a user with such an amazing post-like ratio since Fiddle. I made several attempts at getting an interview with Jun, to ask him why he is so motivated to bring Fuwanovel memes and hilarious gifs, but every time I checked his profile to see if he was free, I was met with the same situation time and time again. And, by scrolling down on his profile, you will see just how dedicated he is to his mission of never letting Fuwanovel go a single day without memes! Taking all of this into account, I think it would be unfair for the thread to keep its current name, and instead suggest we rename this thread to: "Pics Jun Inoue likes." I have made a poll on this thread, and ask that you all vote, so that we can make this change happen!

  8. The actual limit is set at 20k posts, after which you will be personally visited by @Tay. He will apologize profusely for not working on improving the site enough, get shitfaced on the flask of distilled shitposting* he always carries in his right pocket, then proceed to hit on you awkwardly while setting up a portable wrock karaoke station. At this point @solidbatman will join the party, only to bow out 3 seconds later due to a flashback to an early Fuwa party back when he was admin. In his place, @Down will teleport in using a cutting-edge device he worked with CERN to create, bringing with him two magical girls from the 2d realm. He will speak with a voice of thunder and invite you to an orgy. Should you accept, you must walk three steps forward, sidle leftwards for exactly 3.5 seconds, then throw yourself onto the ground the hardest you can. If done correctly, you will transfer to @VirginSmasher's house briefly (he will call you a fag), then fall into a harem isekai anime. After that, all bets are off. *contains Okami's pure, untainted tears, nail clippings from the man he killed (in self-defense!), and is spiced with @OriginalRen's salt

  10. Being naked ≠ pornography A lot of the difference comes from the intention of the work in question. Nudist paintings aren't there to turn you on, they are usually representing something, even if that something is only the beauty of the human body. Porn exists for you to fap to, and is thus seen as having less artistic value by many. If you think hentai is the exact same thing as someone being painted nude, then I think you should study a bit more before making a presentation on this subject. I don't think your teacher was wrong in the way they reacted. I myself would probably react the same way, and I read hentai all the time.

  11. Well, putting a NSFW image on display for a whole class to see seems over the top to me. I must be from a different generation though... Hentai may be art, but if I'm not wrong, you use it as a form of escapism, and escapism is never as good as the real thing (in this context, "the real thing" is a full-blown relationship between two human beings). Also, one thing is liking it, even wildly, another altogether is sharing it with no qualms with the general public. Fetishes exist, but people don't talk about them very openly, and with good reason.

  12. A quick Google search turned up a similar thread on the forums without results, and something related to TERA, which seems to use .gpk files as well. The tools in question might not help you though, since I'm not sure if those are the same as School Days', unfortunately. The link in that thread points to http://www.gildor.org/downloads, and I guess you might want to give the "Unreal Package Extractor" a go. Another Google search mentions Omnigo Program Package as a possible format, with http://constexpr.org/innoextract/ apparently being able to extract them. Might be worth giving either a try.

  13. I agree with you! But first, have you posted a message about adding Rusalka on Prefundia? I already did and I think you should too as well. It will at least let them know that the fans really want to see a Rusalka route. Then maybe we can do a petition. Though I think it might be better to get as many people to request on the Prefundia. And that's even more reason why she needs a route in this game.

  14. You are wrong, kurisu calls Maho "Senpai" from the first time, she never calls her plain "Maho", now at some point they changed her name to senpai because they HAD TO (and they explain what senpai means) or else the story wouldn't make any sense but this doesn't make sense either way because why kurisu will change all of the sudden changing from using her name to Senpai in that specific part?Guess what? She wouldn't, a lot of serious stuff happened before and after and she never changed the senpai to her name. See, what you think it was a sensible thing to do it was just something that doesn't make any sense AT ALL and thus a cheap way to fix something for a bad translation decision. Honorifics are part of their language and culture, just as much as mayuri's way of talking (a childish japanese way of talking) and how they conjugate verbs depending on the person they are speaking to or the situation they are in. You cannot have one without the other, you cannot replace a San with a Ms/Mr, the same way you can't replace kun or chan or any other honorific... but wait ohh I see... they didnt replace those with anything, so for example how can you understand that katsumi acts in a really close way to the people around her using the so evil HONORIFICS, yes, you can't, because the translators decided for everyone that you shouldn't care for that and it seems that nobody actually cares as long as the translation looks like if was written by an english author but by doing so they striped the personality of the characters that makes them so unique, all of that is gone because of a bad decision to turn a JAPANESE vn into a weird English wanna be thing. If you want to read English novels then read something written by an English author, then again what you actually want is some butchered cross version of a Japanese written visual novel turned into some American version, the question is why would you be reading something in Japanese if you are so against its culture and everything that makes it so unique? In simple terms, you are asking for a hamburger but at the same time asking to take out the meat and add tofu to it

  16. I would have wondered "how didn't I see this thread being made," but I think my profile activity answers that for me. Still, what an honour. My lifelong dream of leaving my mark 1% through sheer work 99% through shit posting has been accomplished. I promise to use this power for good, and to not drop my posting rhythm and philosophy of "oh neat, this goes to Fuwa."

  17. That's part of the idea, though. Localisations try to bring the game by adapting it, not simply put a skin and sub over the game and be done with it. In the same way you wouldn't leave idioms or general culture in a localisation (because 99% of the players won't get them at all and it'll be super confusing), you also do the rest of the stuff. Bashing on a localisation because they are focusing too much on localisation instead of "literal-translation" or subbing or whatevs, is kinda... you know, like you are completely missing the point of what's being done. We were kinda "dismissive" of Blue's post because he went on a super rant on Americanisation and imperialism and whatnot, when what he had described is the 101 of proper localisation.
    2 points
  18. I can kind of understand where Deep Blue is coming from. As of late more 'translations' are localiszed as they would a dubbed version. And it is kinda annoying for those that notice the differences and changes in more subtle stuff like honorifics as a means of social hierachy etc. To be fair there are more americans than there are english. And "British slang" isn't something you see in any kind of media outside of britain itself. For my part, I've seen a few FTW, FTWs and some other stuff I'd count more on the american side of english. Which means nothing as the translation company is just the company that hires the translators. For all we know they might be Murricans, Brits or even Japs themselves.
    2 points
  19. I'm sorry I was dismissive but complaining about "American slang" when there's absolutely nothing of the sort being described is absurd. There is very little to no Americanization happening with the S;G0 translation, and literally everything you mentioned as being Americanization is actually related to the English language worldwide and not anything specific to America. What you're complaining about isn't that the localization is steeped too heavily in American culture (an especially unlikely scenario considering the translation company responsible is British), what you're complaining about is simply that it's not Japanese enough for you. Your post could have possibly been taken more seriously if you didn't focus on a nonexistent issue.

  20. Has "American slang" become internet slang for "sensible English"? If so, slang me up, baby. Nothing Deep Blue mentioned is American in nature, just it's all just English language common sense in general.

  21. I don't particularly like Liar-soft, but I never really found it pretentious. I just found the Japanese version of the writing style annoying, lol. If you want a real argument about pretentious media, the Fate series, Tsukihime, and Kara no Kyoukai have a lot of people arguing back and forth over it. Personally, my opinion on people who call something pretentious is that they are too arrogant to just sit back and enjoy the ride. I might have 'thought' something was pretentious in the past, but I never say it, because it is a loaded term that implies a lot of things I don't want associated with the stuff I read. Edit: Also, 'artsy' is another loaded term... filled with the mixed contempt and superstitious awe of the old blue collar worker. I honestly was a bit exasperated when I saw that word pop up on the recent threads, lol.

  22. What kind of Americanized name? They kept every name the same, the name of the characters, of the towns, of the universities, of the societies, they didn't change the name of anything. And the Lintahlo thing is also a joke in the original VN, since, if he was japanese, he would say rintarou with Kanjis, and not Katakana... Just people being picky with a good translation.

  24. I was very vocal about my passion for visual novels and porn during my uni years too, so I'm actually impressed by the guts of the guy, and agree with him on the philosophical level at least. The only thing our society achieved by repressing sexuality for arbitrary reasons is more mental illness and stress. An according to Freud, all forms of art are just sublimation of our sexuality anyway, so I don't see why a drawing of sex couldn't be considered it. ...That said, you won't overturn thousands of years worth of societal imprinting with a single class, so the reaction was pretty much unavoidable. You probably could have tried to soften the presentation by obfuscating the image a little, or giving them some historical Japanese "pornographic" art like I linked earlier and introduce that as an evolution of that. Anyway, it's a complicated thing that will automatically make a lot of ppl upset if not presented well... and uh, I'm not sure if high school is the best place for it, given that our society arbitrarily restricts people your age from even consuming erotica yet... still better be a weirdo than live as a pretender!

  25. There are plot twists, but don't expect it to be a super deep and involved mystery thriller. It's a character drama first and foremost. Someone made a pretty good post on what Himawari is and isn't on Reddit, here. The opening, like I said before, is pretty much straight out of a moege. You're going to have to deal with that if you want to get to the "real" Himawari. Although I personally find the opening to be much more amusing and interesting than most moege. I say this as a fan of that genre, though, so I don't know how it will be for someone who isn't. As for that specific translation criticism, creative word use is bad, now? That's not even getting liberal, that's just using something other than the first entry that comes up in Jisho. I actually do disagree with the use of "shitfaced" here, that word seems out of character for Youichi. "Wasted," or "plastered" would have been better, but it's a minor issue. There's nothing wrong with using "cool and hip" words if you think they fit better in the existing script. Now, what you should prepare yourself for is a pretty liberal translation overall. They very clearly translated this expecting it to go onto the voiceless doujin version, and that shows. I think the translation is rather good overall, but there are a couple things I'm not all that fond of. I actually wish I was writing them down as I encountered them because I've forgotten about some of my complaints, lol. One of the ones that stands out the most is how they translate some interjections as entire phrases. Stuff like "Ehhh!?" into "Are you serious!?" or whatever. That was just a random example I made up because I forgot the specific examples. Those kinds of emotive exclamations are universal, and have a lot of meaning in English as well. Perhaps they do it more in Japan but that's not a great reason to convert them into entire phrases. This wouldn't have been noticeable if we had the original unvoiced doujin, but alas. Even then, I would disagree with that move, it's better to leave it up to the reader's imagination what their interjection means. On a couple occasions, I actually disagreed outright with the translation's interpretation. It does take balls for a translator to do this, though. They have to be fully confident that theirs is the one true interpretation. It's just that pretty often there isn't actually one true interpretation, but multiple valid ones. You end up removing possible readings from it by ascribing to it one specific meaning, and consequently creating a lot of room for disagreement. I think it's clear that this was Conj and Gare's first VN translation, Tokyo Babel was better translated in my opinion. It also seems more poorly proofread, with a fair amount of spelling and grammatical errors. But, like I said, it's pretty good overall.

  28. The primary purpose of hentai is to excite the audience. Which is why it's pornography. And not art. Doesn't change the core intention of the work. You, as an individual, can read anything into a piece of work if you want to. This is part of the reason why art has a bad name, and you're contributing to it TBH.

I think the teacher did the right thing. I really do like my doujins and think that graphic images even in anime/vn style is certainly art. but what you showed was nothing more than porn. and sharing porn and explaining why that fetish or style is the best is definitely not a school subject.

  32. It's not about "weebs" (which is pretty ironic to use here, in a niche forum for a niche, mostly, japanese medium) It's about dropping important cultural aspects in a game obviously in japan, where japanese people with japanese names are talking japanese to other japanese people. Cutting off part of a culture just because some people might have trouble to understand is the worst kind of censoring. Even worse if you can hear one thing but read something else. If you localise instead of translating, do it in a medium where you can at least use a localised dub instead. Some people, myslef included, await a certain degree of perfection if it is an official translation/localisation. If you pay for something that isn't without obvious flaws, you (meaning consumers) will end at a point where you just consume everything, just because it is there.

  34. I assume you showed these third parties the original Japanese to solicit this commentary? If not, it's not a commentary on Sakurai's writing style. It's a commentary on Ixrec's translation and editing. That is, your method of critique does not address the question you wanted to answer.

  35. It is possible if there's enough requests for it. You just need to find some other people around who would like to see Rusalka as a character route and get them to all send a request to the people working on it. I think you can post it on the Prefundia page as well. That being said, I think you should keep your expectations low in case it doesn't work. Them catering for one route is a bit out of hand and it costs a fair bit just to rehire the voice actors again. If it was for 2-3 routes (depends on length too) then I can see it working. Just give it a shot. It wouldn't hurt to try and at least ask them about it.

  37. You are listing what makes a localisation great like a list of heinous crimes, which is kinda funny, I must say. Seeing your full post, what you wish for is a "by fans for fans" but, sadly, this is no such thing, and we are lucky for it. The idea is to bring the product to the West for people to buy and enjoy it, not to cater to the tastes of those who would directly read it in Japanese and do it in English for ease, not taste. They Americanised names and changed their order? Good choice on the first, thanks god for the second. The localisation is Jp - Eng, not Jp - translated Jp. They killed honorifics? Why not? They don't exist. It's a matter of taste or even flavour, not faithfulness.
