  1. Translation from Reddit: "Yesterday, I heard from the personal that there were a lot of Umineko fans at the comiket booth... For seeing that much people cosplaying our characters even in the middle of the winter, I would like to thank you. The development for the next game from the "when they cry" series is scheduled to start in 2017. It is expected that this game will be completely different compared to "Higurashi" and "Umineko". I wish you a happy new year." This is real. This is happening. WTC5 is happening. Oh shit. Someone hold me. It has been years. Oh shit. O H S H I T. O H. S H I T. The hype is real.

  3. Catgirls (and anthropomorphic humans in general) are a big fetish in the otaku media. The cat ears have become a staple of moe culture, a status symbol of what defines cuteness. Yet, whenever I play an eroge featuring such creatures, I often times find myself not enjoying a lot of the cutesy physical attributes of these specimen. Why is that? As I delved into my thoughts, I finally pieced together the reason for these feelings: catgirl discrimination What do I mean by this? It's simple. Catgirl discrimination is a common phenomenom in eroge (and even non-erotic titles) whereby catgirls are introduced as being an important part of a fictional setting, yet they are treated as less than humans throughout the story. Through my hours of research, I found that often times, animal girls in eroge are introduced as mere plot devices for sexual activity rather than fleshed out characters you can emphasize and form bonds with. Now this by itself isn't too surprising. After all, even when there's no catgirls involved, a lot of these games tend to focus on achieving a relationship status with another female human character. However, the difference between the latter and the former is that when humans are involved, they are treated as beings with intelligence. They are equal to the protagonist who wants to romance them. Yes, one can argue about the inherent misogyny in a lot of these titles, but that's beyond the point I'm making. The fact is, human girls are treated, well, like humans (as they should). But when it comes to catgirls, they are typically treated as less than human. They are dehumanized and turned into a creature akin to a pet. "What's the problem with that? They aren't humans, so of course they're not treated as such" you say. Ah yes, a fair point my dear reader, but let me ask you this then: Would you have sexsual intercourse with your cat or your dog? The answer is most likely "no" (if it is yes, please seek counceling. I heard PETA fines aren't anything to scoff at.) Therein lies the issue I have. Catgirls have primary human features, and yet they're often times treated as pets in most games. Why would you date someone who you treat like a pet? It makes little sense to me. Now you might say "it's just a porn game, it's for fetishistic purposes". And of course I can 100% concede to that. In fact, I myself find it to be a nice fetish to have somebody submissive to you act like a pet. There's nothing wrong with that. However, humans are more than their genitals, and their personalities go beyond the confines of the bedroom. In real life, even when we're talking about people who are into things like BDSM, there is still a human connection beyond their sexual life. No human *literally* becomes slave to another human, they mutually agree to have this type of relationship, and they ultimately see each other as equal in the relationship. Yet with catgirls, they are introduced as nothing more than instruments for sex 90% of the time, and even beyond the bedroom they're still just a pet that will obey anything and everything their owner tells them to. I can not concede that this is a healthy form for a relationship at all. Think about it. What is the point of dating somebody that always sees themselves and acts as inferior to you? Where is the happiness in dating someone with no consciousness, who's joy comes from eating food and sexually pleasing you? That is why I can not get behind most games featuring catgirls. To me, a relationship partner must be equal to me in status. I don't want to treat my significant other as a pet, but as a human being. I don't want to take them out on walks with a leash, I want to go on dates holding hands with them and eat a giant parfait together, and then pass out on a bench because the parfait was too big and we now feel like throwing up. I want script writers to write visual novels about worlds where catgirls are just like other humans. They just so happen to have cat ears and a tail and sometimes say "nya". I want them to be more than things you own that can't live by themselves without you taking care of them. That's what babies and dogs are for, not girlfriends. This is not to say I want the end of all games featuring submissive cat girls, that's still a very valid fetish, but I believe it's unfair to treat them like that in almost every single game, especially games where the focus is supposed to be the story and the characters. How can you say you have a game with great characters when those characters are seen as less than human? Games like nekopara thrive even though every single catgirl in it is portrayed as a brainless creature that goes into heat at random times and can only survive if the protagonist "relieves" them. Why must they act like animals this much? Why can't they just be regular human beings who you form a real bond with instead of an "owner x pet" relationship? In conclusion, I believe catgirls are heavily discriminated against when it comes to visual novels. They are beings that need to be given a conscioussness and a will to act on their own, not to become mere cheap tools for one's sexual pleasure. They have a lot of love to offer to the world, and we should start appreciating them for that, because who knows when they'll go extinct. Let's make the world a better place and stop catgirl discrimination. Every catgirl deserves to be portrayed as a being with a brain and a heart.

  4. One thing I've noticed as a difference between the kind of VN consumer I am now and the one I was at at the beginning is that I fundamentally have difficulty mustering interest in sequels, fandiscs, and even anime continuations of my favorite VNs. When I first started playing VNs, I was your classic fanboy. If they put out some kind of new story related to a VN I'd enjoyed, I'd snap it up in an instant. Before I started playing the untranslated, I would obsess over fandiscs and sequels to the point of staring at the Japanese sites for hours at a time. Now, once I've finished a VN, if there is a solid conclusion to the VN, I actually actively dislike standard sequels and fandiscs that come out later. There are exceptions, such as where the setting itself transcends the cast of characters or where the VN in question was obviously sequel-bait or incomplete to the point where a fandisc was needed to fill in the blanks (ex: Akagoei). However, those are just that... exceptions. So what's the difference in me? A lot of it is experience. Most fandiscs are just excuses for extra h-scenes with no real added content (in the sense of enhancing the content of the original), and the sequels tend to ruin the best parts of the original games for me or reuse characters that sucked in the first place (Bansenjin). Another part of it is that I've begun to draw parallels between the 'endless anime series' and the way some VNs seem to get endless amounts of extra content that are designed to waste the consumers' money. Heck, Tsuyokiss is a perfect example of a series that went too far for too long, even going so far as to use a 'second generation' of characters living in the same homes, related to the same people. Majikoi is a rare exception, since its endless sequels have actually been well-filled out, interesting additions to a world that was already whacked-out to the extreme (the many varying ways Yamato lives based on who he picks in S and A are fascinating at times). In fact, the original game, at this point, pales in comparison to the massive amount of content that came later, lol. As I said, this is an exception rather than the rule. I guess my point is that, while a sequel or a fandisc can sometimes be beneficial, my own attitude is always going to be skeptical at best, given my experiences.

  6. All your life you've probably heard that fat is ugly. Most SJWs say no, fat is beautiful. Beauty is subjective, it depends on the viewer. Which means people will have different opinions on what it's beautiful or ugly. I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is the notion that every fat person is unattractive. This does not mean people who think like that are the ones to blame. Society is at fault here. Because of this toxic notion, many people try desperately to lose weight, end up having eating disorders, and sometimes are even driven to suicide. This is not fine. So, how can we end that toxic notion? I say the easiest way is through media. Media can alter the way we think and perceive the world. It has done that for both good and bad causes, including the perpetuation of the present beauty standard. And that takes us to the second point: lack of fat characters on VNs. (doesn't include characters whose fat is almost entirely concentrated on their chest) Take a look at the eroge releases of this month. And at the otomege. I bet not a single game features a fat person as a heroine or as the protagonist. "But", you might argue, "Japanese do not find fat females or fat males attractive." Yeah, one of the reasons they do not find fat people attractive is because they ALMOST NEVER APPEAR IN ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA. Yes, I'm aware they had this notion before entertainment media was even a thing. But if media stopped fully supporting that notion, probably people would change their mindset. Also, I don't mean they should put a 100% fat cast, as such VN would probably be a failure in sales, but at least including one fat heroine would be nice. This way, if players didn't like that fat character at all, they could just skip her route. (but I'm sure some would eventually, by knowing said character better in the common route, come to like her). So, as more players started accepting more fat heroines, they could slowly become a very common thing. This would be a great way to change people's mindset about beauty. "But", you might argue again, "there are almost no fat people in Japan." Yes, you are correct. There are very few fat people on Japan. But you know what else almost does not exist in Japan? Blonde people. Does this prevent Japanese eroge players from liking blonde heroines? In no way! Also, most people in Japan probably don't even believe nekomimi exist. And this doesn't prevent them from liking them as well. Fat people should be the same way. So, that's it for today. Hope you enjoyed the post!

  11. By thin I mean underweight, not what people call "normal". By allowing any kind of people to enter a TV program, you wouldn't be promoting anything. You would just make people feel better about themselves and reject useless standards. I don't get why being a part of media makes it "glamorising". There is homicide in media, there is rape, there is suffering. Are they glamorising those things? I don't think so. They are just there. I'm not saying in any way overweight people are like bad things like that, but including fat characters in media is not glamorising them as much as including those things is not glamorising either. Also, I think you are trying to let media dictate what is right and what is wrong. Being fat is not harming anyone. Even if a person is obese, it's their choice to be, and they shouldn't be criticized for that, as they are capable of knowing what's best for them. It needs representation so that the flawed beauty 'standard' we have know can finally end. The best way to destroy that toxic concept is imo through media. Personally, there has been very very few VNs whose heroines I liked without any exceptions. And I believe it's the same with Japanese people. I don't think they will find all heroines of a game attractive, much less like all of them. Besides, a lot of factors come into play when choosing an eroge to play; character design is just one of them. What??? Sorry, but that's not what objective means. "not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts; unbiased" Just because most people think it is a certain way doesn't make it a fact, nor does it prevent that thinking from being influenced by personal feelings and prejudice. Rather, the whole notion of fat = ugly is a societal bias. An opinion is never a fact. That's why it's called opinion. A fact is something irrefutable. I agree with you here and I'm not seeking privileges for fat people. If they were really treated like everyone else, they would get as much media coverage as thin people get. So, no, fat people are not being treated like everyone else. If you think so, it's probably because you aren't one and doesn't know how it feels to be one. Yeah, there was also a time when white skin was the thing so all we had to do was wait for black skin to become a thing, right? This is not how things work. We can't let society do whatever it wants, because if we did that, things would be much worse. I'm not gonna wait for a certain group to be in the spotlight because that's not what I want; I want equality, not privileges. ???

  13. Body; Hmmm. So you're saying a producer should run the risk of being shat on by consumers or making losses because you want him to push a minor agenda? Now, everyone possesses an individual opinion about something. That is "Subjective". When majority of the individuals possess a similar opinion, it becomes "Objective". It becomes fact. Average individual: Killing is bad. Murderer: Killing is good/necessary. Two opinions. Yet one has transcended to become fact due to an overwhelming majority. This is non debatable. Why? Because what i'm saying is FACT. Unfortunately those who share your opinion are a vast minority. Fat people are humans, they deserve human rights. They deserve the same benefits every human gets not including media coverage. That is a privilege that is determined by society. "Bald head and thick beards." "6'0 foot tall" "Slim waist big ass" "Plot/Tits" These are various "trends" or preferences of society of the now. So in various media, they get most of the attention. Those are the demands of society because they are Visually appealing. Conclusion; Being fat is optional. Those who are fat should not suffer socially because of it. They deserve to be treated like everyone else. On the same vein, those who are fat should be treated like everybody else. They should not be given any unnecessary praise or recognition separate from what society wants. They made their choice. They chose to eat. Whether it benefits the individual or not is not something that should capture attention. They deserve neither positive nor negative appraisals. Like Snailmusk said in the previous post, there are much, much bigger problems than positively approving the obese. TL;DR: Society decides what it wants at the end of the day. If it ain't the obese, you gotta wait till their time comes. There/this was/is a time were anorexia (or extremely slim to be more precise) was/is a thing. There was a time where chubby/meaty was a thing. Given the fickle nature of humanity, obesity will become a thing. Push it's agenda then, not now. P.S read this passively/superficially. Do not read tones or meanings into it, or it will ruin the simplicity of my message. While i was typing i possessed nothing but a poker face and a calm demeanor. Please do not visualize anything else while reading. Thank you.

  21. I don't like half-assing things. Either you make a fetish nukige about copulating with pets or a serious story delving into the intricacies of interracial relationship with another species. Just having them around as normal people with animals ears seems pointless to me. Because then, you could just remove the ears and nothing would change.

  22. You're better off with actual fiction. You can start with "Instrumentality of Mankind" series by Cordwainer smith. The particular story I have in mind is called "Norstrilia". Japanese didn't invent cat girls; they (and more or less, any animal-people) are a theme as old as the world itself. I can't expect fetish-pandering moefests that are vn's to likely introduce cat girls, to actually take them more seriously. Or at least - as they say - make their writers do their homework, instead relying on extensive ammounts of applied phlebotinum. That aside, nice shitpost @Nosebleed

Ironically, instead of giving her presents which are limited, you can just decide to be NOT nice to her and instead do her hard with a monkey orb for a FR+1 every time which is the same as giving her one present. Being nice to her terminates the chance of the cheap FR-Bonus. Very Rance-like. (At least as far as I played ^^)

  31. The purpose of language is all about communication and clarity. You shouldn't associate the very core of your identity over the definition of a word, because it's totally arbitrary. When my head does loops trying to understand if you're "Proxvir" or "Vocigender" it does nothing but make it harder for us to understand each other as people. If the very idea of something is non-objective, then I don't understand why: > Calling an agender person a "she" feels as bad as calling a cis male a "she". and: > a cis male, being taken to a female dorm, with female clothes and called by a female name. ...are such cataclysmic social sins. If the purpose of gender is to make communication easy, then we should stick to the things that nature has prescribed us, because there IS a level of truth to it. If the purpose of gender is something to identify as, it shouldn't be something completely void and meaningless. I identify you as a person by the way you act, the way you think, and the way you conduct yourself. It's what makes us human beings. These gender pronouns and identifications are about as superficial as it gets. Feel free to call me a "she" on the street, because the only time my gender really matters is if a doctor is asking to stick his finger up my ass. Let's keep language simple, so that we can work towards real problems.
