  1. Hello! I'm still working on my visual novel full-time, but sometimes I need a short break and I thought that I could draw something nice for people here I draw anonymous requests on 4chan, but I received great support from you before, so I wanted to repay you somehow. I will visit this thread from time to time and fulfill requests (if there are any) one by one. Things I'm good at: clothes, facial expressions, hands, interactions like hand holding, head patting, pinching cheeks. Things I'm not good at: full backgrounds, mecha, electronics. Here are some of the fulfilled 4chan requests: Horo - Spice and Wolf COLOR Yozakura - Senran Kagura COLOR Blanc - Neptunia Okoi - Basilisk Ginko and Natsume - Mushishi, Natsume Yuujinchou Sako - Upotte!! Picking up Root Letter on a random whim, which usually means I have a >99% chance of actually being able to finish it, btw it's apparently been ~four months now since I finished a VN, last one being Remember11 back in September last year, wtf time flies #toomanyPS4games&beingbusywithlifeingeneral Assuming I'm able to get back in the groove of things, I need to knock out unfinished business VNs Psychopass & I/O, then I'm thinking doing a Legendary like S;G0 or FataMorgana, then Flowers, then the other Legendary And then since it's been a year and a half since I've read a full fledged charamoege (Princess Evangile back in Apr '15), with all the DCIII hype I'm thinking that series will be my go-to to satiate them high skoo SoL needs- *Disappears, never to be seen again*

    Battle of Wits

Umineko is this pretty much (it picks up after the first episode and goes enough places to figuratively dwarf a space opera). Danganronpa also comes to mind. It's basically a series in which a group of prodigious high schoolers are forced to kill each other and get away with it. The games have "Class Trials", which are basically minigame segments where you go through evidence and testimonies with the other students and solve murder cases. It's over-the-top, it's bombastic, it's stylish, and it's amazing.

  6. THAT'S your problem with her? Hahaha, dude, He didn't want to do it because he's a big baby, and surprise surprise, it was much easier than he expected. He had to be forced into it, otherwise it never would have happened. Sometimes you need a boot in the ass in life. Oojima is a huge baby at the beginning of the game and he needed someone to snap him out of it. Interesting how in Sharin no Kuni, the protagonist does the same thing as Chisato here, except to a much more severe degree. Yet when you read your comments on SnK, all hate hate falls on the heroines and not the protagonist who acts like a tyrant with them, using your own terminology. Is it a matter of perspective? Don't like reading from the perspective of the person on the receiving end?

Umineko no Naku Koro ni has a battle of wits plot, and it's also very, very good (albeit long).

  9. So I was browsing YouTube and happened to stumble onto a guy who fed a recurring neural network (LSTM type) some cute VN girl noises. The girl in question is Hinata from Pure Pure. Needless to say the results are interesting... It's rather interesting to see just what a machine picks up from that, and damn creepy. The amount of iteration on the left signifies how often the network has gone over the 10 minute sample data and is also a good measure of how much it has learned. Also bonus points if you turn on CC and watch a machine try to understand what another machine is trying to say.

    Battle of Wits

The most prominent translated titles with some battle of wits besides the two AkabeiSoft2 classics are probably the Innocent Grey titles Kara no Shoujo and Cartagra. Not for the faint-hearted though. Comyu might also fit the bill to a lesser extent if you count the conflict between Akihito and Itsuki. Saya no Uta also has kind of a battle of wits between Fuminori and Saya against... the rest of the world?! Good but also not for the faint-hearted. Hanachirasu might also fit because it's about a blood feud between two sword masters, but it's more about sword fighting. It's also quite flawed IMHO.

    Battle of Wits

Strictly speaking, battle of wits is a rare story element. Here are some VNs that contain the element to some extent, but in most cases it is only to a minor degree or in only one or two of the paths. To some extent, Hello, Lady is a battle of wits... but the protagonist is mostly acting against unsuspecting enemies. Ou no Mimi ni wa Todokanai is a more recent one made by AXL that does have a battle of wits in some of the heroine paths, but it isn't about battles of wits centrally. Sinclient has spy games, Iluminati, and stuff like that... and the protagonist is at the center of it all. Semiramis no Tenbin has Ami... though she is all about manipulating people into various compromising situations. Re;Birth Colony has a few battles of wits... mostly because the protagonist is a hacker using a false identity to live the good life and act as a spy for a cyborg loli yakuza who happens to be his adoptive mother. Izuna Zanshinken has one serious battle of wits that builds up throughout that particular heroine path (the orange-haired girl's path). It gets pretty gruesome though. Ojousama wa Gokigen Naname... its protagonist is a black-hearted butler who will literally do anything to protect his ojousama and little sister from his mistress's sociopathic aunt. I honestly recommend this one for you. Reminiscence (the series). The protagonist is a negotiator and as a result... I do recommend you read the entire Akagoei series first though.

  17. Bought the 3DS version since I never played the PS2 release and it's been fine so far, pretty basic but fine. I've finished the tower quest and...am I the only one who thinks Jessica's voice sounds a little... off? Like the VA's trying to hard to sound dramatic, I mean I get why knowing the context of the scene, but still...

  18. Considering Funbag Fantasy did well I'm going to guess one of them is either Gaiden or 2/if (I'd put more money on the 2if version of this pair since that's in all likelihood canon now). 3's a possibility too if they want to be up to date with the series and the numbered entries are pretty stand alone. There's a remote possibility it could be Majo, but considering its dubious place in canon which has me curious if it'll get remade someday I doubt it. Of course if FF's success has Waffle interested in bringing more of their stuff over it could be either the first Maki-chan game since that's another series of theirs that's popular or Mankitsu Happening since it has an anime and seeing as it's written by the writer of Eroge! which did well that could be used for advertising appeal. I hope to God that it's not Gakuen de Jikan yo Tomare though Also hope for some Da Capo 3 fandisks (would Dearest Marriage be possible since it follows Otome's route anyway?), anything Koihime related and maybe Ero Manga! from Clock Up. Something from Moonstone would be nice too. As for unlikelies that I hope for: something from Propeller, something from Lilith, something from Caramel Box, a partnership with Atelier Kaguya, Navel comes back to MG with Shuffle Essence+

  19. Thanks for the recommendations. I came across most of these other than Phenomeno, mostly just skimmed VNDB though. Will definitely tryout Swan Song/Phenomeno/Hanachirasu. Sayanara wo Oshiete looks REALLY interesting, but if it's already getting translated I'll just wait because it should be close to done, right? Euphoria is a nukige... isn't it? If it's got a good story i'll check it out, but I thought nukige were just for mindless fap lol. Corpse party - 99% sure I wached a let's play of it already. Wasn't into it. Kikokugai looks futuristic, not into that.

    Any good dark toned VNs.

Haha, sure. Its hard to describe Sayonara wo Oshiete briefly, but what makes it so interesting is that you are reading the narrative of a person who is going insane. You see everything through his perspective, so it plays with your perspective of reality. When weird stuff happens, is it because the MC is crazy, or is weird stuff actually happening? It's mostly that psychological aspect that defines Sayonara wo Oshiete as a unique and really interesting title. The title is currently getting translated, so hopefully in the near future it will be available to the English-speaking audience.

  21. Not sure if they do or not anymore but that would be pretty cool, wish they had brought us SKM or the like instead of just KM though I'm still grateful for it. As for the secret projects I'm quite excited to see what they are, hoping for some good news.

  22. So, after several months of reading (with interruptions), I finally managed to finish Mirai Nostalgia. Honestly, I'm not really sure how long it really was, but even if I just played the two main routes from Anna and Iori, it felt like an eternity. I have somewhat mixed feelings about it. Partly because I had different expectations about it. Synopsis and tags in VNDB about the story actually looked a lot more interesting than it tuned out to be. When I started to read it I therefore thought it would be more of a mystery VN, but it turned out to be an almost 100% pure slice of life VN with little to nothing happening and just some slight nakige elements at the end instead. Slice of life is usually intended more for relaxed reading and chilling out, but since reading Japanese is still a quite exhausting process for me, I need at least a bit more action to feel rewarded for my efforts. Especially since I'm not the biggest fan of slice of life VN's anyway. And this was pretty much like reading Princess Evangile in Japanese. And what made it even worse is that I was also reading Yoakena in English at the same time which was even more slice of life. As a consequence I had to tone down my reading to smaller doses to avoid going crazy. Anyway, just taken as it is, it's probably a decent slice of life VN with some likable heroines and good visuals. However, there are some noticable flaws that keep it from being more than that. And that's first and foremeost the protagonist. He's so passive and submissive that he's easily hetare 3.0. Granted, that's not exactly an uncommon problem for Japanese VN's, but it was worse than usual here. Especially, since certain heroines being madly in love with the protagonist was a central element of the story. And having a protagonist about as useful as a doorpost doesn't make that particular convincing. It also completely ruined the romance scenes since there was almost no chemistry between the protagonist and the heroines. The VN was also painfully boring at times, although that's probably a common problem of slice of life VN's. The nakige elements towards the end were also just very light. That's not to say I would have wanted lots of heavy drama, but here it just turned to whiny slice of life for a short time and then back to plain comedy slice of life for hours. Overall, I would have just liked to see a normal and serious conversation between mature persons for a change, instead of almost non-stop trivial cutesy and comedy chit chat. On the other hand, some of the moe and comedy wasn't so bad, it was just a too heavy dose for me. Heroine ratings: Anna > Haru > Iori > Uta > Kanata > Shizuku >> Nono > Hinano (The latter two felt strangely out of place. I think the VN would have been better without them.) Overall rating: 6.0 / 10 (I would have probably rated it a bit higher if I would have read it in English though, so I'm partly to blame.) Also played Mama-Haha inbetween since it reminded me of Tsumamigui 3 and JD Onsen to get my head free a bit. The former was better than expected while the latter was kinda plain even if the animated scenes were a nice change of pace. Still busy with Unionism Quartet A3 which is kind of okay for fan service when taken in smaller doses just one route after another with small breaks inbetween. Anyway, currently I really feel burned out from slice of life so I'll keep a distance from such VN's for a while. Which also means I'll delay Da Capo 3 a bit since I don't want to ruin my experience by not being in the mood for it. I think I'm therefore going to read Ikusa Megami Verita next in Japanese. That should be more what I need now.

  25. If you liked Saya no Uta maybe you should give Kikokugai and/or Hanachirasu a shot. They're both short, dark Nitro+ VNs and Kikokugai has the same writer as Saya. If you don't mind untranslated, it sounds like Sayonara wo Oshiete is right up your alley (though I haven't read it myself, so take this with a grain of salt, perhaps @Zalor can elaborate?).

  28. There's also a more positive review about the title on VNDB in the comments section. It's a bit of a contrast to Clephas' more critical one. Overall, I think it's worth reading both for people who are still unsure, to get to know both sides of the medal. It's also worth noting that Pygmalion was just slighly lower rated than Tokyo Babel both on VNDB and EGS. So it's probably not a kamige but still a decent title for people who like the theme and the story premise.

    What are you playing?

Fata Morgana, finished chapter 4 and started chapter 5. Also, a small question to those who already finished the game. I managed to get the right option (well, I guess it was the right option) to the choice at the end of the 4th chapter on the first try, but I'm pretty curious about where other options lead. So, what do you think, should I finish the VN first, or try other options right now? Anyway, I'm finally completely hooked! I'm not sure about how much free time I have right now, but I am probably going to spend a bit more of it on this VN.
