  1. You can freely talk about lolis in VNs and ask for recommendations just fine, which is what this thread does. This is not a thread to talk about the loli/shota sex and the problems whatever it has. He/she just wants recommendations and explained what he/she wanted in depth. This thread is a lot better than "Want x-genre VN k thx bye" threads that pop up sometimes.

  2. This will actually be far too brief to make a blog post around, but alas... What is "overrated"? Many things, apparently, but so far as I can tell the word itself is used to describe something that too many people like, or that is well liked for little reason. This is an inherently subjective word. Infuriatingly so. At its most basic, it means "too many people have a different opinion than mine", which if phrased that way means nothing. Yet so many people employ the word. There is no such thing as "other people like X too much". It is precisely because people have different opinions that some thing's are successes and others are not, and if something is a success, then it is, for that very reason, not overrated -- if people like something, that something must've done something to deserve it, whether you understand what that is or not, because thousands of people don't like something "just because". And I suppose that's just where the issue lies. Once again, people have different opinions. It's that simple. Such a shame it doesn't stop me from hating the word. It has no purpose. It's obvious and always implied whenever anyone has an opinion, and it only serves to bring a bad connotation and disagree with other peoples' opinions. "Underrated" at least has a purpose (in this context. Other contexts, more similar to "underestimate" are a different, unrelated, story); not to say people don't "like something enough" or people "dislike something too much", which is also another way to spell "too many people have a different opinion from mine", but to say that not enough people know of a particular thing. "Not enough people know about X", or "Not enough people gave X a chance". You can use "overrated" properly. "The importance of X is overrated" can be used to describe situations where misinformation is popularly spread. But therein lies the key. Using it in "subjective" matters, in matters of opinion, means little. It's a way of complaining that other people have different opinions. And I dislike that, so I complain about it on forums online. This post was sponsored by that thread asking if CLANNAD deserves its popularity or if it's overrated. I'd say when something makes you ask if it is "overrated", that's because it is popular to a point where it must have done some things the proletariat likes, and therefore can't be overrated. Of course, that doesn't remove the merit of discussing what is "well done" or "badly done" according to other people.

    What are you playing?

Finished Air and enjoyed the ride. That being said, it kinda bothers me that the Summer Route was the only one where the plot twists didn't feel confusing.

  4. Hey there! I was the translator for Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome, so I can confirm it doesn't have any of the stuff you listed. :> The devs, Kalmia8, recently released another game as well, Kami-sama Nante Yondenai! which, while I've only played the demo, seems to be in the same vein of light-hearted romance stuff. Alternatively, would you be into something like Cute Demon Crashers? Not sure if it's the right art style you're looking for, but it's fairly vanilla, sex-positive stuff. There is one route (Orias) where there's light bondage, but the game is all focused around consent, so you can control how much of that aspect you prefer, IIRC. Hope that helps!

  5. My birthday present from @Asonn just arrived. (Thanks again, you are awesome.) (NSFW link) (NSFW link 2) Kinda hard to get a good picture of it, since it's a pretty darn big sheet. (It looks a billion times better outside pictures. Kinda seems weirdly stretched in the picture, which it isn't.) I don't know what the hell these are made out of, but it feels like touching silk or something. They are pretty damn amazing. I thought falling asleep with these would be hard for... obvious reasons ( ) but I might actually buy more of these, as they are unbelievably comfortable. (Apperantly customs opened the package to check the contents. Wonder what they thought when they saw it, lol.)

  6. The first step isn't always the easiest but it might lead you to something you enjoy and who knows maybe you'll end up getting into eroge (One of us, one of us) and other genres besides Otome. I wish you the best with your first experience

  7. I think a game that fits what you are looking for is Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome, which is coming out in English sometime soon thanks to MangaGamer. It's an otome eroge that looks really good, and according to the tags on VNDB, it doesn't have any of the content that you said you don't want in the game.

  8. Hi. What are some of the better/best otome games with H scenes? I've never played H games before so I'd like to get some recommendations. I'm looking for otome games with an anime art style. I don't want games with that indie, American, hand-drawn kinda look. No offense to those games of course. Off the top of my head I know I wouldn't like the following things/themes/fetishes: Rape Tentacles Hardcore bondage Anal Peeing and scat (if I have to list those things, haha) I can't think of anything else at the moment. Games in EN or JP are fine and it would be great if the H scenes are UNCENSORED but since that's probably rare, censored H scenes are fine too. I'm looking forward to getting some great suggestions. Thanks in advance!

  9. But what if you don't want to have no conversation, but just want to look cool to your likeminded buddies, whoever they may be? Then giving reasons for your opinion would be an inefficient strategy because people might like things for other reasons than you do, so you'd be different. Uncool! Clearly the best option is to shit on things as vaguely as possible so you don't have to justify yourself, because god knows you're neither confident enough to logically defend your opinion nor bothered enough to actually articulate it in such a fashion. #sheeple (I disagree with you on underrated, though you have a point as I have seen it used both ways in a way that is somewhat above the barber's estimation. Perhaps he is using a more society-wide estimate, while we are using something biased by like 2-3 popular topics in the community created by people with poor diction?)

  10. Saw it at the cinema with the whole family. It's superb. Try not to read up too much about it or you'll be spoilt; it is far more than just a body swap romance and surprised me which was remarkable in itself. I'm looking forward to seeing A silent voice in the cinema as well, but it has far more modest ambitions in its plot and I doubt will be quite as good but it's still rating well.

  11. Something i wanna watch is Kimi no Nawa, but it just came out in theatres last August. Seems to be one of those body switching romance types But man having a 9.32 MAL rating from 177k voters is insane

  12. I'm looking forward to Summer Pockets. But I don't know when I can actually play it, I have a backlog of over 50 games until 2020. Plus anime, plus novels... I'm drowning in a pit of nerdiness.

I have never used checks and all the atms fucking hate me. So I may not be able to graduate because I only used debit to buy things. FUCK

  19. Yeah I don't think the thread is at risk of being shut down, that being said my only recommendation would be as @Fiddle suggested playing around with the filters on VNDB. I hope you can find what you're looking for

  20. Yes. It's under the "Tags to include."

  21. I don't think simply asking for recommendations is against the rules. I don't know of any visual novels that fit those criteria, but if it helps in searching, I believe the word you're looking for (referring to cute boys) is "shota." Messing around with VNDB's filters may yield something.

  22. Remember11 is INCREDIBLE about this. It basically takes place in two different settings at once, and there are two protagonists- the driving force of the story being that THEY KEEP SWITCHING BODIES. Essentially it's a huge perspective shift, and even besides that the game incorporates two routes- one for each protagonist. Let's say that you did something you obviously shouldn't have as Satoru in Satoru's body, and died on the third day. If you start to play the Kokoro route right after, you die on the third day without warning when you shift perspectives- because Satoru died in that body on the third day! Definitely play R11 if you want to read a VN about shifts in perspective. Ever17, also of the Infinity series, plays with perspective as well. Two routes are from one perspective while two of them are from another perspective. I also agree that The House In Fata Morgana frames its story beautifully, but it isn't necessarily a perspective shift per se. Check it out anyway, 999 employs perspective in a fucking LEGENDARY way but I can't explain more.

  24. I would rather watch hentai than play this low quality nukige.

  25. I really appreciate the snarkiness, but Clannad had mostly nothing to do with modern moege. It did refined the classic nakige formula to unbelievable heights, tho. We should blame everything that came afterwards, including dozens of other companies trying to mimic their success, typically with mixed results. I'd also say that vn's are rarely without flavor; it's the fans, who became tasteless and willing to swallow anything modern industry shoves down their throats, while growing competition considerably reduced the quality of produced games.

  27. The multitude of ways Sunohura is fucked over will ensure it always remains close to my heart although I agree that the pacing and route order make it less enjoyable at points. It's been a while since I've read it but if i remember right a lot of the After Story stuff focusing on other characters like the Sanae and Akio was pretty solid anyway, so even knowing the big spoiler didn't ruin it for me. Also report to the ship as soon as possible.

    VN element: Slice-of-life

I also agree on SoL being an important element in writing. The problem shows up, when writers can't really balance the contents of their story well enough. As @@RedK said, it's fine for SoL to make majority of the game's content, at least in terms of modern standards (although, I'd still digress - even moege or charage can be written differently - they don't particulary require SoL as sole supporting element), but things get different with story-centric prose. Whereas an average charage or moege can survive solely on influx of SoL elements, more active genres require action and catalysts for these to actually happen. Good prose tends to minimize SoL elements to brief periods between chapters or events, where the action unfolds and remain used solely as subtle character-building devices. It's said, that "real characters" gain soul only through "real ordeals" - obviously, SoL itself isn't enough to actually construct an interesting character with deep personality, unless you're planning to create the next generation of Mary Sue's.

SoL segments are perfectly fine in a charage or moege imo.
