  1. That's what everyone's wondering honestly. Taisho Alice really seems like a good game and it's a shame this guy got the license instead of Mangagamer/Sekai Project/Aksys. I want to see how Primula would react to this.

  2. Has anyone heard of what happened with Taisho Alice's localization? It was a mess- English dub by this one guy, the translation's all over the place and the Hiragana/Katakana Alice/Arisu thing. Otome fans were really disrespected by this company. It was shady from the start but I didn't expect it to be this much of a train wreck. Please check out this thread detailing how bad it was. I believe several translators also commented on the issue.

  4. Yeah I find the constant inability of the human race to communicate with each other and the resultant suffering that causes pretty funny as well.

  5. Looks like everything's turning out for the better. My mom's insurance company is gonna cover the medical costs for the ER visit and the cost of my therapy, which my doctor recommended. I'm also allowed to do minor activities with my arm again, and to just slowly adjust into performing regular tasks. I am allowed to type with my left hand again too, though I'm not able to do it much right now. It's a work in progress, but at least it's something.

  6. Tsuisou no Augment, when I first played it, blew me away. Part of it was because it was so surprising, part of it because it was just that good. Thankfully, it turned out to be just as good on a second playthrough. First, this VN doesn't fall into any of the standard genres. Most of the game is hilarious, some of it is romantic, some of it is hot and sexual (seriously so), there is serious drama, and there is even some guro, though of limited scale. The game begins with Hideya, the protagonist, lying in an old folks home at the age of 80, unmarried and looking back on his life, seeing it as empty and meaningless. So, quite naturally, he takes up a nearby fruit knife and stabs himself in the throat, twisting so that the wound opens nicely, spraying his blood over his room. To his surprise, this isn't the end... he wakes up in a park, sixty-something years before, in his young body, with a hideous creature calling itself a shinigami floating in front of him. The shinigami explains to him that it, Augment, wants to take his soul at the peak of happiness, so having him die of suicide after an empty lifetime was inconvenient. As a result, Augment took him back in time at the moment of death so that he could find his happiness - mainly a romantic life partner - so that Augment can use his soul after death to purify his own. So begins Hideya's dramatic journey to gain happiness... or not. Hideya's personality isn't exactly Japanese-standard, so things don't really go the way you would expect with the standard VN protagonist. Hideya is a fast-talking young man who takes an unholy pleasure in derailing conversations onto random topics (which are disproportionately related to sexual fetishes), which makes most of this game hilarious to read, since Hideya absolutely cannot stop himself from derailing even the most serious of conversations. A lot of the choices in the game are worth exploring alternatives to, if only for the few hilarious extra lines they grant you, lol. The three heroines of the original game are Shiho, Satsuki, and Nami. Shiho is the protagonist's osananajimi, who began to distance herself from him sometime in middle school. She is a kind-hearted and generous young woman who studies obsessively. Satsuki is a girl from the next class over that Hideya meets on the street one day while she is stomping on her older brother's head. She is the game's tsundere, often saying the opposite of what she means, and she is a brocon that happens to beat up on her brother regularly because he is rather... annoying. Nami is the younger sister of the protagonist's class teacher. She seems quiet and mysterious on the surface, but she is actually rather expressive... though that expressiveness tends to come out in reaction to jokes, opportunities to put down her sister, and opportunities to blackmail her sister (the teacher is a total siscon). In Shiho's path, you confront the reason why she put a distance between herself and Hideya, and the reason is fairly... traumatic. It is a reason that is all-too-common but no less tragic for all that. In this path, there are too endings. One, the one that is available from the beginning and is the 'true' ending for Shiho, has Hideya borrow Augment's power in order to right the past wrong that so twisted Shiho's life. The other has the protagonist accept the current Shiho for who she is, loving her including her scars. Depending on the individual, it is questionable which one is more touching, though. In Satsuki's path, you find yourself confronting yet another issue common to pretty and friendly girls everywhere... in this case, the endings are slightly less distinctive, because the end result differs so little, though there is a third, bad ending you can get if you pick the path to the true ending and make the wrong choice at the last. Nami's path is a little different, and her true path is pretty guro (if you look too close at the CGs, the average person will probably need a barf bag). Nami is the cutest of the girls when in love with the protagonist, but that just makes the guro parts worse, lol. Her non-true path involves evading the guro events to reach a normal happy ending, and in that sense, hers has the most disparity between the endings. The Tsuisou no Aumgent FD (also pronounced Tsuisou no Augment) covers after stories (between the epilogue and the ending of the stories in the first one) for each of the three original heroines, as well as adding on paths for Augment, the protagonist's older sister Youko, and Nami's older sister. The after-stories are basically a treat for readers who wanted a little extra ichaicha material from the heroine paths and more Hideya doing his level best to prevent conversations from going anywhere. The Youko and Minami paths are both about two-thirds the length of the original heroine paths from the original game, and while they are good, I honestly preferred the original heroine paths. Augment's path is basically a joke h-scene. Overall, Tsuisou no Augment is one of the more memorable games I've played over the years... and one of the few games where I spent most of the game laughing my ass off but could still cry at the important parts. This is no charage - the paths are a bit too harsh on the characters for that - so this won't attract those interested in that sort of game. However, it does have nice romance with serious drama attached.

  7. Get real hype, people. It's coming June 14th, and initial signs (text on the official website and on the Steam description) are looking good for the TL: http://www.kogado.com/sw/contents/kuroneko/sr2017/en/index.html http://store.steampowered.com/app/629650/Symphonic_Rain/

  8. Then, to be honest, you shouldn't have included it in the rankings at all. 2017 is supposed to have many notable releases, none of which have released yet outside of Grisaia, having it in the list like this is completely pointless

  10. As for the walkthrough, there's one from the translator themselves. The walkthrough in question was only covered both of Midori's and Runa's routes though. It's still easy though to get other three routes even if the walkthrough didn't cover that. Here's the walkthrough in question below, and hope it'll be help for anyone else who play HatsuKoi.

  11. I cant believe i am saying this, but thank you bank account for not being able to afford this game. I probably would have bought it if i had the funds lol. It looked really promising as well. This reminds me of the sao hollow fragment trash translation for the vita lol. EDIT: That voice acting though.. are they trying to create another arc rise fantasia?

  14. Part 2 of my VN protag analysis is up. Nothing too profound in it, but it's some fun data looking at what tags tend to crop up most often with different types of protags. https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/160500900017/visual-novel-protagonists-part-2

  15. I mean, how heavy stones are we throwing anyway? This is just a topic memeing about a low-status release, it's not like we don't have others like that already for, say, sonicomi, or nympho sensei ryoko, or please bang my wife, et cetera. Taking it too seriously is probably a mistake. I will admit that in my mental map everyone knows what Decay wrote about moenovel's previous, fairly inoffensive release of divinity stage - the tl work is better though nothing special, and it's not spectacular in any way otherwise - or at least I'm too damn lazy to inform them.

  19. It was quite an interesing request. To tell the truth, those two were not my taste. However, at least I knew some of BL and otome VN. There's Hakuoki (If you had PSP emulator), Ayakashi Gohan, and Black Wolf Saga if you need more recommendations for the otome VNs. For BL, there's No Thank You (It's the real title), Dramatical Murder, and Lamento. Hope those recommendations would be help. PS - All of my recommendations here were translated if you curious whether those VNs were translated or not.

  21. I'm not sure about otome games on PS Vita (if you have one) but Code:Realize is highly recommended. It's a steampunk story-focuses otome game with real-life and literary characters (Arsene Lupin, Victor Frankenstein, etc.) Steam has a variety of otome games. Amnesia: Memories, Nightshade, and Ozmafia are the best Japanese localized otome games. Amnesia: Memories A heroine with Amnesia who tries to regain her memories. It's kinda slice of life-ish but it can get really weird. It also has a lot of bad ends. Nightshade: I really recommend this one because the MC is really amazing. She's basically a shinobi princess but other than that, anyrhing else counts as spoilers. Ozmafia: Grimm's fairytale characters reimagined as Mafia members. A Korean company, Cheritz also has a couple of localized ones- Nameless and Dandelion. Both are also well-regarded. Both are fully voiced in Korean. There are also OELVNs that are quite good. Backstage Pass is fully voiced in English. It has stats-raising though. Games without voices that are good are X-Note, Area-X, The Royal Trap, and Mystic Destinies. There's a pretty notable free game on Steam too. Cinderella Phenomenon is free, has an interesting story and has maybe 25+ hours of content. Itch.io and the lemmasoft forums have a lot of free EVN otomes like Asagao Academy, Airis, and Lads in Distress.

  23. Which would you recommend I start with, considering my stated tastes (strong protagonists, intelligent characters, interesting settings)?

  24. @Kiriririri Yep, this analysis is just on what's popular so more obscure niche stuff, both in Japan and for OELVNs, aren't well represented. It's not meant to be a complete picture of the VN scene, just of what the "mainstream" is (in as much as the VN scene has a mainstream). My analysis on trends with VN protagonists is now up: https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/159955558977/visual-novel-protagonists-what-are-they-made-of I hope you guys enjoy it, I had a lot of fun analysing the data. There's some fun stuff to come in part 2, some odd connections that I didn't expect.
