Now, I love nothing more than an interesting setting, and I'm tired of normal charage in general... so one of the biggest points that can be used to draw me into a charage is a crazy setting. Crazy charage settings are settings that have no possibility whatsoever of happening in real life or are so far outside of common sense that they are inconceivable as a real possibility to most people. This includes fantasy settings and sci-fi settings, but more often it includes a simple concept taken to an extreme. There are several types that have become common in the last ten years (common as in they've popped up at least five times in the last ten years in different companies' VNs). The Love City/School Setting This is the second most common crazy setting that pops up in charage. To be blunt, it is a setting where love and romance are encouraged as a part of the law or by school rules. In this setting, love, sex, marriage, and/or children are desirable outcomes and the 'system' in those settings goes to weirdly extreme levels of effort and expense to create the desired result. This can be seen as a part of other crazy settings (such as Kamikaze Explorer, where having children as a student was encouraged) or on their own (as in Love Revenge, where romance was essentially forced on the students by the school's new owner), but this particular crazy setting has popped up at least fifteen times that I can think of off the top of my head in the last ten years. The Virtual World Setting This is the most common sci-fi setting, often mixing with fantasy ones, where a virtual world (partial or complete) is put into place either in common use or as a part of the main characters' lives. This has a relatively low rate of occurrence for a crazy setting on this list, but it has popped up six times that I can think of in a charage in the last ten years that I can think of. Some where 'enhanced reality' types like Harvest Overray and others were 'jack-in' types like Hoshi no Ne Sanctuary. However, the key to making this list is that the virtual world element is key to the progression of the story, at least through the common route. The 'Get/got sent to another world' Setting This is the second most common fantasy charage setting. It can range from 'After I defeated the Dark Lord' types (Valkyrie Runabout is an example of this type) and 'school life somehow in a half-medieval setting' type to ones where the protagonist just shrugs and starts living with the heroines whom he just met (Unlucky Re:Birth). I've come across this six times from VNs made in the last ten years, and mostly they are fun. The 'Magical/mystical school' setting The most common fantasy setting. This can range from Alia's Carnival types where the school is the only place where the magic/mystical element is practiced to charage based in mystical worlds (Such as Racial Merge). I can think of about seventeen VNs that chose this type of crazy settings. The Cross-dressing Boy attends a Girl's School This one is... well, insane on so many levels. However, it is also the most common 'mundane' (non sci-fi, non fantasy) crazy setting. I can't count how many times this has popped up since Otoboku and Shugotate started the main trends of this crazy setting (for silly/weird reasons vs for serious reasons), but it is also one of my favorites, since you can usually enjoy the protagonist's antics as he tries to fit in... or fits in almost too naturally, as the case might be. My thoughts Crazy settings can often be amusing and add flavor to an otherwise trite concept (fall in love stories, which dominate charage), but some people are put off by them. Also, utilizing a crazy setting in a relatively believable fashion is a rare skill amongst charage writers, and many such games fizzle in the end. Nonetheless, I'll probably keep diving into crazy settings, if only to keep myself from going insane with boredom at all the dating and romance that dominate charage.2 points

I'm okay with VNs whose titles don't tell you what they're about, but I'm less enthused about threads with the same quality.1 point

I like it solely based on the fact that it's not based in a fucking high school. Also, the art for the girls so far is cute. I gotta ask though why only 5 students? Is there a mystery to it?1 point -

I would very much be interested, as I've never really had much of an opportunity to play such games with anyone else. Edit: Incidentally, my steam link to the left has been wrong for probably well over a year. I just fixed it, though.1 point -

Plk_Lesiak reacted to Akshay for a topic
You can have it both ways. Key VN's tend to do this. You have your main heroine like nagisa from clannad, and i thought her route had the most effort put into it. However the opposite is true as well. For example, VN's like Majikoi, don't really have a true heroine, and I liked several routes and several of the heroines. People have different tastes, and one of the most contested things for moeges, are their favorite waifu/best girl. I loved every girl/route in Ayakashibito despite suzu's being the true end. Even if there is a true ending, people can enjoy the other ones and girls according to their taste. And the ending in Comyu was very slice of lifey but I didn't mind it too much. For me, the thing that pisses me of, is when they have a true route/heroine, they put so little effort in the other heroines screwing them over completely. Case in point -> G-senjou, Comyu, most non major routes in Key VN's1 point -

I'm generally against the idea of a "true ending" unless there's some kind of overarching mystery/intrigue that really needs it to be properly resolved (and the romance is secondary to that), or there's a sequel that needs it as a starting point. When there is a "true route" I usually don't get hyped for it and treat it like any other playthrough, it's my choice what I want to take from a game and which conclussion will be closest to my perception of the story. Especially in a standalone title, where I don't have to really care what's "canon".1 point -

It took a few hours but I sorted this out myself, I can't say for sure what I did as most of it was guess work but I reinstalled the kami_001, kami_002 and kami_200 without deleting or replacing the old files and it's fixed it.1 point -

Preferably those vns dont have true endings. And ill agree with you about the heroines should just be unique in their way. Hoshimemo for example teased the true heroine over almost all the routes, and when i finally did the true route, i almost refused to believe how bad it was, what a terrible heroine she was.1 point -

The TRUE Source of All of Fuwa's Suffering and Despair
Plk_Lesiak reacted to littleshogun for a topic
Nah, it's already ancient history. So I didn't have any problem with that, and if that's the case then I'll just try to ignore that. Thanks for the concern though. That said, I understand though if some of the users here did have some inside joke. But actually I would like to think that other than those users, there's also many unregistered guest who mostly have less appreciation for the joke. So I kind of understand if mod Kaguya here was stressed because of that, because it was his job to maintain the forum as the public area (The reason was once again in regard of the guests). That said, as long as things keep in moderation then I have no problem with that in regard of inside joke. @Ranzo If you interested with Fuwanovel shitposting history, then I would suggest you to look at either Steve's or Okami's account and browse their posts.1 point -
Ah right sorry, yes they're bitmaps, not the video but still not text in the game so they'd have to be graphic edited. Looking through the extracted bitmaps, they only did that on Manaka's route for some reason. Perhaps they felt they didn't give enough of a postscript in the video for her because of Manaka's extra postscript:1 point

There is no VN that is life-changing to me, but for people that believe that VNs with choices as the only interactivity make for horrible games, i'd recommend Clannad because it's the only VN i've ever seen that has replayability in such a great level (just look at the walkthrough of it on these forums to see the amount of optional stuff) without relying on JRPG gameplay.1 point

Heh well as much as To Heart 2 means to me, and how many years work I put into it, I'm not blind enough to consider it the best VN of all time. On the other hand, for anyone that enjoys moege and charage, I put it to them that they should all play To Heart 2 at some stage because it is one of the reference works that basically defined the genre in one fell swoop. VNs before it were nothing like it in scope and tropes became tropes as a result of its writing. They weren't tropes when it was written. It has dated in many ways but there are also still very likeable aspects to its story and characters, and the amount of meta references to this game in the most modern of charage still today make it an invaluable reference for jokes. Playing it is reading history in the making. Even if you don't plan to read it, check out its and its animes' list of (spoilers) tropes http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VisualNovel/ToHeart21 point

RedK reacted to Tamaki Sakura for a topic
Hatsuyuki Sakura. From laughter to tears, this VN takes you on an emotional journey. It has some great heroines (Sakura, Aya). The protagonist is about as far from the typical nakige mold as you can get, being a misanthrope with a desire for revenge. Did I mention that it's a fuyu-ge, and fuyu-ge are the best? Also, exists. The OST is stunning listening by itself and works even better in-game as an atmosphere generator. Finally, I just want somebody to translate this game, because it's had too many failed projects. (I'd be happy to insist on editing this if you pick it up. Same goes for Natsuyume Nagisa.)1 point -

Kenshin_sama reacted to Thyndd for a topic
Oh God, anime music really brings out my inner weeb. Let's see, this is gonna be fun. I'll try not to repeat any of the ones people have already said in this thread, but some of them I really like! First let's start with my boi Hiroyuki Sawano. He's the reason Guilty Crown's soundtrack is sooo damn good. Well, he and Chelly's voice... best combination ever. Ninelie Bios Delta Departures aLIEz And yeah, also pretty much everything by supercell/egoist, like Pyscho-Pass openings/endings: All Alone with you, Namae wo kaibutsu or the infamous Guiltry Crown OP My Dearest And you know what's better than having Sawano compose the OST for your show? Also having Kalafina, like Aldnoah Zero did: Heavenly Blue They are amazing: Magia, Hikari no senritsu, Aria, Oblivious but yeah, of course they are, they even have the great Kajiura Yuki as composer, next in the list. Many times I listen to a OST, think it's amazing, look up the composer only to find this woman's name. For example, in recent times, Boku Dake ga inai machi ending: Sore wa chiisana hikari no you na, or this cover by Hereson (check this dude out, he makes amazing stuff) Boku dake OST Hereson .hack//SIGN, Fate/Zero, SAO (which say what you want about the anime, but damn the OST is good)... This Day and Never Again, You Are my King, COFFEE SODA TOFFEE PASTA, Pandora hearts OST KEY songs, Jun Maeda, well, you know how it is, this is a VN forum after all, but anyways: Little Busters OP, Faraway, Song for friends, Kanon 2006 OP, Air TV OP, The place where wishes come true, The palm of a tiny hand Lia songs: Angel beats OP, Charlotte OP Lisa songs: Crossing field, Ichiban no takaramono, Brave Song, Shirushi Nagi no asukara openings/endings: Ebb and flow, Mitsuba no musubime, Aqua Terrarium, Soshite bokura wa To finish let's move onto some miscellaneous stuff, shall we? SukaSuka OP, Higurashi OP1, Higurashi main theme, Yosuga no sora OP, Shigatsu wa kimi no uso OP1, Shigatsu ED2, Kyokai no kanata ED, Meitantei Conan OP12, Plastic Memories ED, Shiki OP1, Shiki OP2, Sakurasou ED, No game no life OP, Tokyo Ghoul OP And that's some stuff that comes to mind for the moment. Maybe I'll add some more later when I have the time!1 point -

Planetarian HD Edition (Steam) .dbs format
RazoR reacted to marcus-beta for a topic
He is half readable because the tool is outdated?/unfinished The DBS have 2 encryptions and 1 compression First encryption is xor with 0x89f4622d for every 4 bytes of the file... (dword) Now you can see a compressed content, Very simple, is a 8 bits flag, 1111 1110 he will loop bit per bit if the bit is equal to 0, he will use the atual byte in the buffer as a count of how many times he need copy certain byte in the decompressed buffer to the top of the buffer... if the bit is queal to 1, means don't have repetion and just copy to the decompressed buffer After decompressed is the last encryption, this crass just do a xor in everything with 0x7190c70e, but this isn't right... This encryption have a randomic "static" switch who select bettewen the key 0x499bf135 and 0x7190c70e I don't have fully analyzed this randomic switch in the key, but if someone wants try here is the tool to create the dbs https://comfy.moe/vhmmim.rar and here is the part where he select the key: (He have 3 buffers, one with the original file, one he using the 0x499bf135 key and other using the 0x7190c70e key)1 point -
