  1. So as some people know, I co-host about visual novels podcast monthly-ish. We have a segment towards the end where a user can "shill" a VN you like for 2-3 minutes. Basically at the bare minimum you just briefly talk about what the visual novel is and why you like it. We're interested in getting some more shills lined up and ready. Other things to take note off if you want to contribute your own shill: * Leave a 3-5 seconds of silence at the beginning and/or the end of the recording * Please have the recording be a .wav file * Make sure there's no background noise as you record * It doesn't have to have an English Translation. But if it doesn't make sure you note that one doesn't exist (yet). * You can't shill a VN that's already been done before which includes: -The House in Fata Morgana -MajiKoi -Yumina the Ethereal -Princess Evangile -Root Double -Tomoyo After -Little Busters -Sunrider -Umineko series If you're interested PM me a 2-3 minute-ish .wav file and we can work with it. If you want an idea of how previous shill segments work you can go to our YouTube channel. Each video has one shill each and I put a timestamp in the description. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsAcGboxM5tSyYcU6Fu4nDw/videos

  3. A lot of people in the industry started out / are doing fan translations. The meme that all the good fan translators are working for one or more of companies now isn't far from true. Kouryuu fan translated Soul Link then went official with it iirc. Haro FTL'd Hadaka Shitsuji. Verdelish did toradora portable as well as some other youtube tls. Ritibito + bdh started out on the danganronpa FTL. Conjueror started out working with garejei on some masada stuff afaik, plus Himawari started as a fan tl then turned official. Koestl begun with his fan translation of Grisaia no Kajitsu. I could find more if I wanted.

    Favorite VN?

Action, Badass Protagonist, Romance, Drama and a Coodere-Heroine, do I need something else? Therefore my favorite VN is obviously Grisaia no Kajitsu.

  5. Yep, because I didn't get into Vn's for the porn it has always just been this semi uncomfortable side element I have to just deal with, which I do because I love them.

  6. Sometimes when I can't cry at anything else no matter how much I need to, a visual novel can make me weep like a child.

  7. As for me, I definitely would. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure it would lead into some unhealthy changes in the industry, and I'm not sure if the new VNs would be as appealing to me as the old ones. Nobody really mentions it, but for me one of the main advantages VNs have compared to other media is that they are automatically 18+, so they don't have to deal with all this crap like toning down violent scenes and touching extremely controversial topics.

  8. My thoughts exactly my friend. If that happened many people would no longer be ashamed to admit that we read VNs. Lets be fair. Many of use live in very conservative countries so we are often misunderstood. VNs as a medium has many advantages. Just route system alone is a major thing. VNs have also proved that they can have an interesting and well written stories: S;G, Umineko, Morgana, Ever 17, Higurashi etc.

  9. Yes. I would celebrate! No shitty nukiges and no forced and badly written H-scenes. What else could I ask for.

  11. Indirectly I suppose. Moege can actually have a lot of little lessons about living the day to day that can help out in a stressful situation, and they themselves are also great stress relievers, being light and fluffy. They also inspired me to start Moege February, where I shall read only Moege (and maybe an occasional Charage) in defiance of those who would defy us. Viva la Revolution

  12. The same way you are supposed to show a slice of life without a scene where the characters poop, I guess. Don't get me wrong, I also appreciate a well written h-scene, as few as they are, but stating that you cannot do without them is an overstatement imo.
    1 point
  13. As long as it's only the h-scenes, sure, I don't care, but I think you hit the bull's-eye there. Losing the appeal of the 18+, companies would probably just tone down not only erotic content, but pretty much every ounce of adult content and themes in order to sell to a broader public. So, technically yes, I totally would keep reading VNs if the h-scenes were removed, but that's only if the rest of the content remained unchanged... which is highly improbable, not to say impossible. Therefore, in actuality that change in content would most likely be a deterrent for me.

  14. Most good endings do have CGs specifically made for that ending. That said, there are some developers that simply have a long scene with no CG or change it depending on the heroine priority level. Majikoi is something an exception to the rule, probably because that series' games have so many endings in the first place. I say that Majikoi is an exception, because Majikoi games are the higher end of the budget scale, most of the time... and most of the games where there is no CG are medium to low budget games.

  16. I know a lot of people are enjoying the hell out of it but for me it just came across as boring. Some parts are faithful to the DS ports were not all characters are named, or have full voice acting but for a triple A console release it feels lazy. The combat I found was the worst, with item mappings taking up more time to get to than they should, blocking and rolling not really being effective *on Xbox at least* due to delays in the control responses or just the monsters accurately predicting where you're going to be rolling too and hitting you anyway. Just sapped the fun out of it for me. It would be an okay game if you got it on sale but it's nowhere near worth full price right now, wait until a few patches or something at least.

  17. That would be cool to have some cgs for some of the deliciously fucked Fate Stay Night bad endings of course there's like forty of them so that would never happen

  23. As for Mangagamer, I remember that they hired some fan translator like Arunaru or Tulip Goddess Maria so I guess we could say that they hired people from fan community in the past. Although nowadays looks like they depend on gaming TL professional, because they employ some staff to translated VNs - in fact Mangagamer CEO Kouryuu was also translating VNs and currently work in Maggot Bait. Keep in mind that I may be wrong for the info.

  24. Short answer is yes, though my tastes might become more inclined toward Otome, Yuri, and Western VNs than they already are.
    1 point
  25. Yeah, definitely. Maybe, not the bad endings, but at least the good ones. I think, the main reason why not all VNs have that is because it's supposed to be "fun" to look for secret endings, but, honestly, I see little fun in it if I don't even know where to look. Though an ending list would work just as fine. And I realize that I would definitely skip the last ending in SubaHibi if I wasn't following a walkthrough.

    Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol 4

First, I'll give you links to my observations of the first three chapters of this game. Contains Chapter 3 Chapters 1 and 2 Now for Chapter 4... as I said in my post on Chapter 3, the bottom line for this is that if you liked the first three chapters, you'll like this one. It is humorous, it is bloody, and it contains an odd mix of the grim and abnormal slice-of-life. I laughed out loud - literally - several times while playing this game, and I honestly liked the insights on Chris's character that this gave. This chapter also serves as an excellent 'settling in' chapter for Gumi and Maki, as Chapter 3 was focused too much outside of the normal daily setting to get a picture of how she was dealing with her change in situation. The introduction of yet another (female) character has me feeling a bit exasperated, but since Taiga fits pretty well with the crew, I didn't feel any irritation. The combat scenes in this are pretty much just one-sided 'pow-pow, the enemy dies' one-sided massacres, except for one of them. I'm going to be blunt... in six months, they probably could have done two chapters like this, so I can't help but wonder why they insist on separating this game into such tiny chapters. While I won't say that the first two chapters (released together) were 'satisfying' in that sense, I nonetheless felt like I'd spent good money, rather than throwing it away. Unfortunately, at the price they are offering these chapters, I would much rather pay seven times as much for a full game two years from now than be forced to wait for each chapter.

    Sora no Baroque

For various reasons, this is one of the rare occasions when I didn't aggressively look forward to a Light game. The first reason is that the setting/story descriptions in the Getchu and homepages were vague and of no real use. The second was that a crossover was announced between this and Nemurenu (the recent Clock-up title with Kurashiki as the writer) recently. The artist for this game (at least the character design, anyway) is Ueda Metawo, the artist from Gore Screaming Show, Mindead Blood, and Yami no Koe. So, it should come as no surprise to anyone that there is a guro/no guro setting in this game. This is atypical for Light. In general, Light avoids actual guro content, preferring to stick to visual blood effects and shadow slayings (the shadow-figure beheading from Vendetta, as an example). This is actually typical in chuunige in general, with the rare exceptions including mostly Nitroplus games and a few Akatsuki Works games. As such, my first thought was, 'This doesn't feel like a Light game, and I only just started.' That feeling seemed to be betrayed, initially, by how the story begins, with a classic Masada-style protagonist monologue full of pathos and dark emotions. Unfortunately, it was soon apparent that the brief spark of hope I felt was going to be betrayed, as the horribly-paced prologue/first arc began. First, within ten minutes, I was watching a loli gang-rape scene. Second, things flash into vicious combat mode with no real intro to the characters, however limited. All of this is atypical of Light. The pacing of the early game is easily the worst I've encountered from this company, and that particular negative is endemic to the game as a whole. I can't really say I got to like any of the characters before the path split, which is unusual in a Light game, to say the least. Pacing might not seem like a huge issue to people accustomed to the often uneven pacing common in charage, but chuunige are, in many ways, games whose quality is based at least in part on their pacing (story, characters, and setting being the top three). Even Masada, who is terrible at slice-of-life, still manages to use it to give you a sense of what the characters are fighting for. However, with this game, Kurashiki failed even at that most basic of tasks... Nao remains two-dimensional outside of Sachi's path, and you never really get a full impression on any of the heroines. Kamori's path is short, brutal, and fades out with a whimper. I honestly liked the combat scenes, but it felt like this path sort of fizzles at the very end. Oh, there was a truly great guro scene with weird results that would normally have served as the first-class centerpiece for a first-class path... if the whole thing hadn't fizzled at the end. Yachiru's path is much stronger than Kamori's path... but it is also a bit more unpleasant. To be honest, I wasn't surprised that the path written solely by Kurashiki would be significantly better than the one written by by Marimo. However, this path is still atypical of Light in some ways... that I can't get into without spoiling it. However, like Kamori's path, it fizzles at the very end. This is part of the story, and it is understandable in a 'true heroine' chuunige, but it felt like this path began and ended with using Yachiru as a punching bag (and as annoying as she is at times, she didn't really deserve that). I will say that, despite this being stronger than Kamori's path, it is still a marginal path, at best, as chuunige paths go. The battles are awesome, but... Sachi I'm going to be straight with you... the favoritism for Sachi is blatant, even at the beginning of her path, and it is this path that is probably the reason for the guro warnings. I made this a separate section because, compared to everything else in the game, this path is unnaturally higher in quality. Kurashiki obviously was only interested in telling this story from the beginning, and it shows. For those who have played other Light games, the action scenes are pure crack, and the descriptions of the characters' feelings vivid. This path has two endings... a classic 'bad end with story' (it is actually kind of a nice read, though it is bad for humanity, lol) and a final end that feels... a lot like a bad end for Nao. Seriously, this game's final ending feels a lot closer to Nitroplus's style than Light's, which will probably bother some fanboys. Conclusion However, it makes me wonder... just why the hell did he insist on making the other two paths so mundane? Oh, if I were to compare them to a charage path (which would be unfair to both), they can't really be called 'mundane'. However, the sheer carelessness with which the common and other two heroine routes were treated, the poor pacing, the lack of a solid base to judge the characters... it feels inept, compared to this company's other works. As a result, I'm giving this one my lowest rating for a Light game on vndb, and also saying that I wish Sachi's path could be transplanted into another game, where it could really shine, lol.

  31. I did tried my Gamecube emulator on my laptop, but no luck because it was too slow. Anyway as for recommendations you can't go wrong with both of Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos duology, although the later were quite hard though. Other than that, both of Fire Emblem (9 and 10) and Skies of Arcadia should be interesting. Oh, and by the way all of my recommendations here were RPGs so it should be good. As for platformer, I could only think Donkey Kong. Hope the recommendation will be help.

  32. While moege/charage are often weak and stereotypical, I can honestly say that some of them have had good influences on my life. The catharsis from nakige, the laughter from comedic scenes... and occasional first-class games that pop out of nowhere. All of these things serve to reduce my life stress and make me feel better. I've never denied that charage/moege have their positive points and can have good influence... though stereotypical moege bashing is fun, sometimes.

  33. The feel good ones have make me feel comfy and there's lots of sweet moments that make my happy The ones with good art tend to have good H-scenes and as a vanilla H-scene connoisseur who makes ranking lists and has a separate vndb for how much I like H-scenes I'd say it changed my life in that regard

Rose Guns Days. Actually well-paced for such a long VN, incredible soundtrack, very fun and compelling characters with nice motivations and a good story rooted in real life tensios.
