  2. Easily the best Venus Blood game, story-wise and gameplay-wise. Not to mention the protagonist and main heroine have an insanely strong personal bond that makes you really root for them, though they are evil.

  3. Anyway it's kind of impossible to discuss Umineko in a comprehensive fashion because it's so massive. Even if you edited down all the maniacal laughing, uryuu-ing and over-the-top fight scenes you would stil probably end up with an 80+ hours read where every single 10 hour chapter gives you more food for thought than most actual 80 hour VNs out there. Some time ago I planned on writing a blog post about how the gold from the Golden Land is a metaphor for truth, but I scrapped it after realizing all the introduced concepts I would have had to explain and all the plot points I had half-forgotten I would have had to read up on and I just couldn't decide where to even start.

  4. Infinite Stars released yesterday (1 September 2020) and is available for free on >>> itch.io <<< Infinite Stars is a science fiction series played as an interactive visual novel. It is meant to give humanity hope in the current time of fear and uncertainty. It is meant to make us dream about our future as we mingle with other species, their cultures and beliefs that we have yet to encounter. Our game and it’s assets are licensed under the Creative Commons license. We want our fans to write, draw and code their own fantastic visions of what the future could hold. We want them to share their creations with us, their friends, and with strangers all over the internet. In the distant but still recognizable future humanity has overcome our differences. We are finally a united people. No longer divided by our nationalities, our religions, or our race, we call ourselves human. Earth is a beautiful sanctuary planet. It took centuries to repair the damage our forefathers caused. Lunar Command is the hub of the solar government, and except for a few pirates and other undesirables, each individual works together for the greater good of mankind. We had total dominion over our solar system. Since Galileo gazed at the first planet, humanity has dreamt of meeting extraterrestrial life, but after centuries of shouting into the void of space, we had made peace with the fact that we are truly alone in the universe… Until the Cephilusk convoys arrived and started constructing the Sol Gate. The Discovery-War was brief and bloody. The entire Terran Protectorate was destroyed in a matter of days, and humanity resorted to guerilla warfare, sabotaging construction attempts and raiding supply convoys. A peace was brokered and official channels of communication were opened. We discovered that there were others like the Cephilusk, countless others and that all the civilized species belonged to the UIC. The United Interstellar Concordat. Once the Sol Gate was completed, humanity petitioned to join the UIC. It took years of hard work done by our most brilliant diplomats. They were opposed by the Cephilusk at every milestone, but we did not lose hope and we were not denied membership. Most species still view us vulnerable newborns, the newcomers to the interstellar power block, but we will change their minds. We will show them that there is greatness in humanity. We will share our brightly burning passion and curiosity with the universe. We will show them what it means to be human. Each episode is roughly 30-45 minutes of gameplay for a single branch. The choices that you make during the episode has an impact on how the current episode’s story plays out, while still having an impact on future episodes, and available side quests. We intend to implement feedback looped gameplay allowing players to manage a colony or upgrade their starship in-between episodes. We also want you, the player to mod and create your own stories in the Infinite Stars universe. If you write a short story, we want you to be able to incorporate it into the Infinite Stars universe and to share it with other people to experience. Infinite Stars was created in Ren’Py, an easy to learn coding language. (It really is easy to use) We intend to release a skeleton project to make it even easier for our fans to modify and start creating their own stories. If you want to start creating your own stories, you can find some of our free assets here. Alternatively, if you want a larger variety of assets, or just to learn more about the game you can check out our Patreon. The game and assets that we release do cost us money, and we have dedicated large amounts of passion and time to this project. If you like what we are doing, please consider supporting us here or on Patreon. Every cent donated is plowed right back into the project. We're excited to share this journey with you! If you want to be one of the first people to join our discord, now is the time!

  5. "However, if you were to show it to a real adventurer... They would shout in anger about how naive and convenient this story is."

  6. Wow, somebody really did God's work with that. I'll check that fan made VN then. Since generally I'm not a huge fan of manga. I felt that same way. I've procrastinated reading Umineko for maybe as long as Fuwa has been around. And if you already read through it once, I couldn't imagine rereading the whole thing again. That said, kind of like with Suba Hibi there is a certain joy in not completely knowing and theorizing based on your own interpretations.

  7. @Zalor Well, in my case, Umineko was what made me fall in love with them. Have you tried reading the manga for Episode 8? It makes some things clearer that the VN. If you don't want to read the manga (I personally never did that) you may try this fan-made VN which converts the scenes that were changed in the manga into a VN format.

The last VN that i finished was Majikoi, one of the greatest pieces of media that i touched, wonderful comedy, excellent chemestry between the cast, nice protag. Volume 7 [RococoWorks]

Foreword: Dropped this game a decade ago, but I played all other RococoWorks visual novels, so I have a history with this brand, and I quite like its works. Synopsis: A lot of invisible walls suddenly appear all around the world. The same phenomenon happens in Nanahama Town, but another phenomenon takes place as well... "Landforms and buildings have gone back to the past." People in Nanahama are confused, but they somehow keep on living there. Two years later, Kyouka, a TV reporter, and Tomaru, her friend, are sent to the town to investigate the cause of the phenomenon... Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs4Gp5VU4Fv_Q6BpbqxgMITmOnGkbtjir Game type: Atmospheric mystery game Character Design rating: 7/10 Protagonist rating: 7/10 Story rating: 7/10 Game quality: 9/10 Overall rating: 7/10 I dropped this game once, but I still consider it a masterpiece. Nonsense? Not at all, because True Route elevated the score a lot for me. Basically, it's a nice even game with superb graphics and rather intriguing mystery. However, composition and concept are much more ambiguous. So Volume 7 has introduction called "Outer world", three romance routes with three different couples called "Inner world", and finally "True world" which includes all the couples plus new characters as heroes pursue the mystery of Nanahama. First part mainly draws the world, introduces characters and creates a slow-pace calm atmosphere with nice youth story. Romance routes.... well, I don't care about them at all. Romance itself is quite hasty, and I don't really like to see H scenes of these defenseless heroines. First route is with the same protagonists as introduction route - Tomaru and Kyoka - so it's more or less natural transition to romance, but Ryugo and Kotora route is what made me drop this game. It's painted in so boring traditional Japanese colors that it makes me want to sleep. Third Yashiro and Sakura route is kind of weird because of age difference and overwhelming amount of H scenes. So I don't want to see these two last romance routes at all. "True world" is what all those 20+ introductory hours were for - fast-paced chaotic story from some 10 different viewpoints as we're told the many mysteries of this world Shortcomings. Such structure is already flawed as different people like different things in games, and introducing alien elements makes them feel that their beloved element is sacrificed. Some want charage while others require plotge, so it's really easy to flame this game. There is little explanation. Setting is too elaborate for Outer and Inner World parts. These parts also have really slow pace while True World has aggressive development. Characters are too childish. Story is too polite and lacks excitement. There is no catharsis in the ending, so final impression gets dulled. There's a lot to look down to. But benefits are very similar. Character are childish, but not naive. They are reasonable, charming and defenseless. Atmosphere is really great and warm, so first half is enjoyable and comfortable no matter the pace. True World actually has a genius concept as it shows many old scenes from different viewpoints or with continuation, or with knowing who person is talking to at this moment. Scenes that looked like fillers suddenly acquire meaning. It's not a game about passion or burning, so why expect a catharsis. You get so many mysteries revealed, so what more do you expect? It's an absolutely lovely game, but one word constantly pops up in my head while I think of Volume 7. Refreshing...
