Are there any (good) English-voiced VNs?
Zakamutt replied to Pedeadstrian's topic in Recommendations
Virtue's Last Reward has full English VA in the north american version, says WIkipedia: "The game contains full voice acting (English and Japanese in the North American version and only Japanese in the Japanese and European versions). -
Katawa Shoujo is the Catcher in the Rye of VNs
Zakamutt replied to Zalor's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I haven't read catcher in the rye (interestingly enough not required for my English courses, not that we didn't read other classics). I have to say though, I don't think Hisao sees himself as healthier than the other students. That's just nitpicking though, your analysis might actually be valid... for act one. The themes you mention do somewhat run through the vn in a few character routes, but mostly they are focused on the actual relationship with your chosen girl and the unique problems that have to be resolved for it to work out. -
Jackie would be jack + the ey from "key". Jacky would be Jack + the y from "many" (now that was a random word).
-
^They aren't pronounced quite the same though
-
Well, Jackie is the feminine version really.

Do you pay attention to voice actors/seiyuu in VN ?
Zakamutt replied to VN-Angel's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I generally don't remember voices well enough to recognize them across different games. Performance tends to be inconsistent anyway, really. That doesn't mean I don't care about voice performance though, it can make or break a vn. That said, I have I feeling I will never forget Kotori's heartfelt "Gome ne, Kotarou-kun" in Rewrite. -
^ Well, both of those options are illegal in some way, probably. It might be difficult to re-add scenes that have been cut as well unless the game gets a good hack. Conventional wisdom applies: keep it down low if possible, and if you get a C&D go underground. Shouldn't really be harder than that, and patches are practically impossible to stop once they get distributed.

I generally feel it hurts immersion a lot to not have the vn fullscreen. I have a 1366x788 or something screen on my faptop, so the stretching isn't hugely noticeable. That said, I greatly prefer for the game to preserve its aspect ratio and use black borders.

I'll just lazily copy this from vndb... well it didnt actually copy that well: 9.5 Ever17 -the out of infinity- 9.3 Rewrite 9 G-senjou no Maou 9 Kyokugen Dasshutsu 9-Jikan 9-Nin 9 no Tobira 8.8 Fate/stay night 8.6 Deardrops 8.5 Clannad 8.5 Saya no Uta 8.5 Tsukihime 8.2 Kira☆Kira 8.2 Symphonic Rain 8 Kanon 8 Katawa Shoujo 8 Leaves 8 Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o: Anata to Koibito Tsunagi 8 Swan Song 8 The Best Eroge Ever 8 The Dandelion Girl 8 Tsuki no Terasu Those are all my 8+ votes on vndb right now... 18 of them, apparently. I might be easy to please

These days, since I have type onesies diabeetus, I should really avoid sugary drinks. Thus, my new passion has become Coke Light. WIth that said I tend to have a lunch consisting of crisps (only salted, flavourings ruin the taste with their frankly grotesque impurity and oversimplicity), one of the cheesy products available 'round here, or chocolate. Or both. Usually I break the chocolate up into small squares to I can just pick them up easily, otherwise there isn't really much to do. Of course, ifI really get into a vn I might forget to eat and stuffs. I can't say I give a major fuck about my health lol. Dinner tends to be aight however

When it comes to replaying things, I am skeptical of the concept in general. I couldn't vote #3 as I haven't given anything a score of 10/10 yet, and a good deal of the vns I have played have a rating around 8 on vndb so yeah. When it comes to re-experiencing a vn, there are a few reasons I'd consider: Journey: There's actually a book I have re-read a fuckload of times, it's by Terry Pratchett and about Australian stereotypes and random stuff. It's comedy, and knowing the basic plot doesn't mean that I remember all the jokes; thus it's quite worth it. Memory: Sometimes I read through vns when I am very tired, and somewhat miss out on or at least can't recall afterward the details of what I read. Yeah, I don't really like it either. Analysis: Sometimes, I feel it's worth to re-read a route to analyze it more (did this with Hanako in KS actually, maybe I should do Rin one day when I feel like self-mutilation). Thinking of that, Fal in Symphonic Rain was a really interesting character, maybe I should give her the same treatment. I think I'll re-read some of CLANNAD (but not afterstory) once the new TL comes out (god knows when it will given that tomoyo after memorial isn't even out yet), I can't remember some of the side-routes that well. Otherwise, well, I still have a few vns I haven't read to go through before that .

I agree on having a backlog somehow. Or the messages shown changing back to what they were if you walk backwards, depending on the layout...

Do note that Heisig specifically discourages reviewing from kanji to keyword. I'm not sure why yet, apparently it's to be explained soon but I haven't gotten any new kanji in for a while due to headaches tiredness et cetera (qq).

sort the cards by "due" to find out and just put the number it should be at in the first box. By default it should shift everything else up one number. Also, you can undo the last change you did if something weird happens so there is that.

I think what would attract me to an OELVN is the same that would attract me to any vn. There needs to be something that stands out. For example, Driftwood - a kickstarter vn in a school setting - is set in the US, and has male friends play a significant role. Also has good art. While the school setting really is played out as fuck, those first two are so rare it's interesting to me. The thing is, though, that I expect OELVNs to at least try to be different from their japanese brethren - there are enough translated vns on my backlog if I want something that feels japanese. I don't find high length to be a requirement, but I prefer it to be at least 30 minutes. I like short vns to space in between longer ones for a breather; the doujin vns translated by Insani tend to be good for this and usually somewhat nonstandard compared to more mainstream works. I agree with you somewhat about japanese-style artwork, but I think that is partly due to a lack of quality VNs drawn in another style. I welcome anyone trying making a good vn without it.

Clannad is too long and starts off weak imo.

I might be interested in this. How are you with spoilers? I'm not sure how far I could go, and imo quite a lot of discussion and review needs at least a spoilered part to truly be justified. Ofc I can also elaborate on general themes, which is the kind of thing only Steve would consider a big spoiler . Lemme try to find something decent from my admittedly shitty, but quite well-stocked, blog... Oh, and if you want to read other entries be prepared for the occasional self-hate bomb. <CENSORED> I could probably make things more detailed, these are just medium-effort posts.

Good to have you on board! Something miscallaneous but potentially useful: if you notice that Anki is skipping a few kanji from the list, this might be due to their Due order being wrong. I'm a faggot so I'll not make this detailed, but I finally fixed it by browsing the deck, Sorting it (visually) by Heisig number, then Repositioning the bad elements to their proper Due date. To find those Kanji, there is a surprisingly simple method: for these kanji alone, it seems, there's an an On-yomi field. To get everything with a non-blank field... try deck:current -"On-yomi": The key to this is that it minuses everything with an empty On-yomi field. The moar you know.

Hmm, maybe I just dislike the second tune but to me it was worse than your first, if better technically. Very flat... Uhh, am I biting? Anyways, I only really have one notable video...

Status report time! Encountered kanji: 217. No-activity days: none. Only-review days: 2 Greatly reduced new kanji days: 1 Percentage complete: ~10% I've managed to get somewhat of a habit going, though it's still rather tenuous. Especially important I think is that I do reviews in the morning; if I did the total like 120 reviews I'm getting per day now including new cards I'd go insane. One thing at the moment is that I have sleep issues. I tend to be very tired at 22, though I managed to mitigate it somewhat for today and managed to memorize most stories well. Given stories continue to be somewhat hit-and-miss. One thing caused by this, I guess, is that I usually forget to some degree around 3-5 kanji once while reviewing new cards, which is annoying but part of learning so nothing to whine about really. I've been plagued by issues of Anki skipping cards, causing me to scramble to memorize some extra kanji - which usually works out okayish, admittedly. I've managed to fix this by browsing, searching for 'deck:current "On-yomi":' and fixing up the Due numbers to align with their heisig numbers... so far. Motivation level at the moment is... well kind of meh. I'm feeling a bit ill/headachey right now and part of that was probably caused by the mental effort I put into drawing kanji and visualizing stories in my mind while reviewing. However, I think my habit building might be sufficient enough to keep me going in these silly days, and hey I reached 10% and that is awesome!

Why are Super Noodles hard to cook :(
Zakamutt replied to Kendjin's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
Holy shit that is a slow stove. ...Well either that or you just prepare the vegetables decently quickly lol. -
Since I went with my own decisions for my first run in KS, and was thus rather noncommittal, I got the Manly Picnic first I recommend it! In fact in my first run I have a tendency to end up with neutral endings. On the other hand, this also mentally allows me to use a walkthrough so thats cool But yes, KS is more or a charage than a scenario game, so it makes sense to just pick the girl you want

I'm partial to the old classic demae ramen beef flavor myself. Haven't ever seen ma goreng (or whatever that interesting brand was called) -
"A digital book with pictures and music, and often a branching storyline." Hmm, too basic?
