To be honest, I feel like "Visual Novel" was coined to encompass the typical eroge-style originated in Japan due to the lack of a better term. I'd argue that the majority of visual novel fans come from the anime medium, and that they are visual novel fans because of that anime-ish eroge style, and that the actual presentation of the text as, well, a novel that utilizes visual elements and everything else you elaborated on the post isn't actually that relevant. Because of that, while the definition is coherent, I don't see any advantages of using it since it needlessly broadens the term to include a lot of things it wasn't meant to include in the first place. Though I could also just be an idiot. Who knows. Just my two cents on it.

I do play MMOs from time to time (I'll generally tackle one every year or so) but ultimately, I'm not really a gamer, so even in those cases, the most I'll really do is login a few times per week and run around doing some quests and looking at pretty dresses for whatever loli I'm playing. Pretty rare for me to get obssesed with a game to the extent you're describing. As for JRPGs, I also like them, but they generally have too much gameplay and not enough story to me (the ratios are messed up.) It's why I mostly stick to VNs and anime.

@Kenshin_sama, It's cropped better than the last one. Personally, I'd try cutting the ahoge to either show more of her body or close-in the zoom (right now there are little pieces to the side that only show what I presume to be the sea, which could be removed if you showed your character more closely) , but if you want to show the "guitar" text I guess there's no choice. 7/10. VNs allow you to know the characters better and hold feelings for them, which has a pretty nice effect on the H itself. I read them for both H and the story (oftentimes separately, though.) By the way, I don't see much of a contradiction with saying that "I dislike H-scenes, but they're there for the sales" The point of the argument is that, in general, people are more likely to buy titles with H scenes than they are to buy titles without it. People saying that are making a statement about the majority of the VN-buying public, not about themselves. Whether or not the statement is correct is an entirely different matter. I know little data about it, so all that I can offer are my observations and speculation - Some VNs certainly can thrive without H-scenes. A (probably valid) argument against that is that only big-name publishers have the luxury of making said non-H VNs, though. Either way, the fact nukige tend to sell pretty well indicates that there's a pretty good interest in H scenes, at the very least.

If you want something challenging, translated and without much of a story it's a bit hard. Maybe look into Bunny Black, I guess.

A screenshot of your error message would always be nice. If we're talking directdraw, I remember Duel Savior had a problem like that and it was pretty much impossible to play it on anything after win7, though I can't remember the specifics of it.

No, you don't. You need to finish Cartagra in order to appreciate some references made in the second game. The story is still pretty much understandable by itself. Cartagra is nice, though, so if you like KnS you should probably play it anyway.

So, I started up Noire's game. Well... My thoughts exactly. I'd much rather play as anyone else's secretary. Especially Neptune's. That'd be a blast. But hey, Noire is also ok, I guess. We'll see how this goes. I'll be giving updates regularly. The faceless secretary is actually kinda funny, by the way. I can dig him so far. He isn't the best thing ever, but it's still a better protagonist than Nepgear, lol (joking.)

Oh, I played action unleashed. It's kinda fun. There isn't all that much enemy variety and it's not too hard, but it's nice to just slash away and kill a bunch of mobs with NepNep. The story isn't really large, but it's also kinda fun, though it doesn't get to the level of the main games. There's also the whole costume-break thingy, if you like that. From what I can see, Blanc's game is a lot like Action Unleashed, though I haven't played that one yet. It's probably better.

It's cute, I like it. 8/10.
