  1. I feel like it appeals to the otaku crowd who watch animu much more than it does for either readers or gamers, tbh.
  2. As a mod and not a judge please don't spam the forums with fanfics You'll have to ask Clephas for specifics (I think we'll use this one, but I'm not sure) but regardless, everyone should just do it in one thread (if we're not doing it through PMs - again, Clephas for specifics.)
  3. Welcome. Hope you have fun around here.
  4. To elaborate on it, the majority of VNs, good or not, will never see a translation, period.
  5. Normally you find that save folder in roaming (in windows you need to use %appdata%) not in the game folder itself. Where is it in linux? I have no idea because I never used linux. If you know where that is you should be able to find it, though.
  6. The savedata also overwrites your global save (where your completion is stored), so while normally you have to finish the game for the NG+ stuff to appear, just downloading that and throwing it in your save folder (and then starting a new game) will do the trick.
  7. If cheatengine and spoilerAL are out, there are none that I know of... You can use a hacked save and start a new game, though. If all you want is currency, you can just pick "Santoeril" in the screen that'll ask you what to inherit in your new game. You should have nigh-unlimited money. http://www.mediafire.com/download/wb7biyiw563xffm/Kamidori+Alchemy+Meister+-+Super+Fullsave.rar
  8. I'm doing a replay of 2, too (haven't checked the requirements, but I hope my PC will run the third game...) Though rather than starting anew I just went for a NG+ I actually liked DS2 over the first game... Though that may be because I played the second one first, lol.
  9. Sure, but where's the harm in making it as accurate as possible when we already use the 1/100 format? :/
  10. I dunno. I'm not sure whether or not he'd make this point, but taking what Sanah said, I highly doubt changing it to a star system will make people who glanced through the reviews read them. At most, it'll scare them off. It's an absolute no-no for me. And sure, it's ok. The earth isn't going to explode from that, but to me it's just a system tends towards innacuracy for no reason. It's not even like it'd change our format, we can do the scores the exact same way while going on a 1/100 scale. We just don't. I don't have expectations of changing it to a 1/100 scale, though, so I'm just voting to keep it. Most other places I see with similar score systems do 1/100. I think it's the better approach looking in the long-term. Eventually we'll find ourselves with a cluster of reviews with scores that make no sense (well, we already do, because every reviewer who's not me has shit taste and puts out awful scores ) Well, I guess it doesn't really matter. It'll just make scoring a bit harder and I'll tell people who talk to me my scores are shit because y'all are evil - I just don't see a reason not to use the freedom we have when we're already using this format. I will, of course, compromise for whatever we end up going for in the end, though. That'd just be my prefered scoring system.
  11. Because the way we're working doesn't allow it. I can only give it +0,5 or -0,5
  12. Half the people probably only check the score and glance through the review, so of course I care about it. It's also why I'd rather have no scores at all. The star system is basically a simplified score system as far as I see it, so it's even worse. To me it's also related to how many VNs I've read... If I didn't separate them like that, the scores would pretty much be pointless (like my current VNDB scores. I don't even want to look at that thing.) The difference between 8 and 9 when you have to rate 10 or 20 games isn't anything to be worried about, but it's the difference between the sky and the earth when you read a couple hundred of them, though I dunno if most fuwans can relate to that.
  13. To expand upon it a bit further, I ended up giving Haruka an 8.5, even though I wanted to give it an 8.3 So, the next time I review a nukige, I need to keep in mind that I gave Beat Blades Haruka an 8.5. Then say there comes a game like, Erect, which I'd give an 8.7 to. Well, normally, I'd just leave it be... But I can't do that. And so I'd usually end up taking it to an 8.5 - that's reasonable, right? However, I gave Haruka an 8.5, and I'm reviewing Erect as a game I believe to be significantly better (closer to excellent than it is to pretty good.) So I'd either have to settle it with the same score as Haruka (which I really wouldn't want to do) or I'd have to give it a 9. Giving it a 9 would temporarily solve the problem, and it'd be more or less in line with the differences between the scores I'd give for those games... But the next time I review a nukige, I'd have to keep in mind that I gave Erect a 9. This is already unsatisfactory to me, so I'd pretty much commit sudoku with a star system instead
  14. >Didntreadanythinglol They can't because they're dealing with works of fiction and you can't be objective with fiction in the first place.
  15. And yet it averages 7.6 on VNDB... Probably because of the lack of other games of the sort translated, lol. Alright. I prefer to keep the scoring as is. Why? Because while I'd like to have no score at all, as long as we have one, I prefer it to be as detailed as possible. The biggest alternative I've seen so far would be a star system... And that'd really suck. 1~5 stars would make me want to kill myself while giving scores to things. There is so much difference between games I'd rate 7 and 8 that I wouldn't feel comfortable rating things. If it were up to me, we'd go full 1/100, rather than the current 1/20 system we're running, too. Take my first review, Haruka, for example. I thought it was too low for an 8 and too high for an 8.5, and I wanted to give it something in between because neither would feel right, but evil bats didn't let me There's a world of difference between Rose Guns Days, Evolimit and Dies Irae in quality... And I'd hate the thought of lumping them together with the same amount of stars, for example. A "recommended, maybe and not recommended" section would be better than the stars, but it also brings its own set of problems. Ultimately, I prefer to keep things as-is. It's classy, calls more attention than stars and would prevent me a lot of headaches.
  16. This kinda ties to why I'd like jp companies never to notice we exist at all. Ultimately, I don't care about whatever they do to existing games (especially sonicomi, w/e.) After all, translations are just that - translations. I can still go and play the original game without really minding those. What I wouldn't like is the market suddenly making VNs aimed for the west (which they aren't doing at all yet, thank goodness.) Because I like VNs as they are and the thought of them suddenly changing to fit an audience I mostly despise is scary. A sonicomi dub is a far cry from that, so I'm not too worried... But anything that could make currently existing companies to actually pay attention to the western community is something that makes me scared, lol. If this is something nitroplus actually wanted, rather than JAST trying out something new out of their own volition, I really hope it'll fail. Hard.
  17. It's cute, but I'm not fond of her. 7/10.
  18. Hm... If I did it, I'd take inspiration from bat's old giveaways. Make it a 2 week period with some challenges and games every few days. I wouldn't mind doing it.
  19. I normally moderate offtopic posts whenever I see them... I just don't normally check this thread. If you ever see this type of thing, feel free to report it and I'll get to it.
  20. Just hid 7 posts here because they're offtopic. Plain and simple. When asking about moderation, you're much better off sending PMs. As for what I hid in the first time, it was a comment about sexual harassment and all the comments that addressed it.
  21. Hid 12 posts here... Please do realize that advocating what may very well be a crime is against the rules and can land you severe punishment (both in real life and here.)
  22. Haruka is a funny game. I love Alicesoft as a company in general. http://reviews.fuwanovel.net/2016/04/05/beat-blades-haruka/ This is my first post as part of the fuwa reviews team. How did you like it?
  23. The tool itself is a way to stop people from accessing the site for a certain amount of time. The way it's used is up for the user. Your post makes sense. It's why I don't criticize Nay's way of modding - I think it's perfectly valid. Still, if possible, I'd like people to stop being arses over saying they're not welcome. It's not like I never ban anyone. It's just that I prefer seeing if we can work things out before doing that... And I don't really think that's wrong. One of the advantages of being a small community is that we can pay attention to all the members, and make judgments afer familiarizing ourselves with the situations that led to the trouble-making and the nuance in the whole issue - and I think it'd be a waste to throw that privilege away. Things aren't black and white, and a kick in the nuts isn't always the right way to go about rule-breaking. Of course, it also depends on what the member is doing. Certain transgressions would just get someone banned, yes. Ugh. I suck at writing text-walls. Hopefully this managed to explain what I think about moderation better. If it didn't, rip me
  24. I did say this thread was a terrible idea in the BM forums... Still, to some extent, the purpose of this was to contain offtopic rants about moderation in a single thread rather than letting it happen all over the forums - and there's not much point in it if we don't let people rant to their heart's content. I appreciate all types of feedback - good or bad - so long as they reflect what the members are thinking. When it gets to name-calling, that's a no-no and I'd consider banning someone for it (at the very least, I'd talk to them and hide the posts.) Wasn't watching the thread too closely, though. I figured there'd be enough moderation around here and that I wouldn't have to do anything about it. Guess that was wrong, huh. Sorry for that. Should've paid some more attention. On the topic of banning, temp bans are a little slap to the wrist. They're a way of saying "don't do that". There's no reason to actually ban someone it if the person is going to tone down - oftentimes it just serves to make members saltier and angrier, which is a terrible result. As you said, there are very real people behind your computer screen - you can actually make them understand what type of site this is and how their behavior here should be through talking. Banning often has no result other than creating a troublemaker, lol. Obviously uncooperative types aside, I continue to think it's a really shitty method to stop people from being arses. Still, there are many ways to moderate the site, and none of them is obviously better than the other, in my opinion... Yours is fine, but I'd like you to keep in mind that I'm not soft because I'm lazy or because I want some lulz. I moderate the way I do precisely because I'm dealing with actual human beings.
