  1. This one is easy: Soul Eater. I was with the show all the way until the end, enjoying every minute (except the ones with Excalibur - Excalibur can DIAF), and then the last episode happened. WTF.
  2. So far I've binge-watched 9 episodes of Nodame Cantabile since starting it yesterday afternoon. Holy crap it is so good. I don't even care about all the commercials and the ridiculously low quality due to the horror that is Crackle; everything about it carries me right on through all that nonsense. I realized during my last binge that I have a huge grin on my face for about 60% of the time I'm watching, and for another 10% I have tears in my eyes. I can't adequately express how happy I am that I started watching this show.
  3. Confession: I may actually be wrong about jealousy not being able to take on the meaning of envy, given some results from internetting, though wikipedia seems to agree with my original distinction. Confession: Arguments over completely trivial matters are pretty much the best thing ever, as long as they don't get out of hand.
  4. To my knowledge, true, and I ate congealed blood at dinner last night (Mongolian hot pot restaurant had some weird stuff), so I have pretty good creds to back that claim. But I wouldn't be surprised to find my kryptonite is out there somewhere. Next person loves lamp.
  5. Math... essay...? I can't even. Confession: Actually, I can even, but I don't want to can.
  6. Same. The only background I happened across when picking it up the first time was "high school occult club", which left me wondering if it was really going to be any good. Turns out those little plot snippets probably do more harm than good. All it needed to say was "Key".
  7. I eventually got used to the art in Honey and Clover, but I kept stumbling over the story line. On the one hand, it was good that it kept me guessing about who was going to end up with whom, and what people would end up doing with their lives. On the other hand, the few things that did get fully resolved ended on a really surprising and even somewhat weird note (at least for less-than-perceptive me), and the rest was left pretty up-in-the-air, which kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. The characters were certainly great, but I guess I just like a little more predictability overall, and a little more end in my ending.
  8. No, a "common route" just refers to the initial parts of the VN before your collective choices lead you down a particular character's route (or potentially straight into a bad ending, depending on the VN and your own capacity for making bad choices). I finally finished KonoSora today. Asa and Yoru were the last two routes for me, with each being worse than the last. Aside from translation issues, I really enjoyed Kotori, Ageha, and Amane's routes. If I try really hard, maybe I can scrub Asa and Yoru's existence from my brain, and then I can imagine it being a pretty good VN with three heroines.
  9. False. Next person is grumpy about losing an hour to daylight saving time.
  10. Confession 1: After spending all morning dealing with income tax returns, I am really envious of the undoubtedly large percentage of this board that is currently thinking "Taxes? Isn't that something parents do?" Confession 2: I get really annoyed when people misuse the word "jealous" when the correct word for what they mean is "envious".
  11. Hmm... I have ~10 favorites , and at least some of them are in high school (Clannad, Kokoro Connect, MariMite, Kanon, ...), so sure, True. Next person has something they want to brag about.
  12. Watched the first three episodes of Nodame Cantabile. I am now totally hooked on the show, and I now also loathe the Crackle service. I would happily throw, say, $100 at a license holder to legally watch a show this good in HD with no ads. Sadly, that option does not seem to be available.
  13. IIRC, Naoto wears more girly clothes in the P4 ending (at least in the True ending, probably in the Good ending as well), and let's just say it makes a pretty big difference to her appearance. I voted Aigis best girl, Ayane worst girl. Aigis became my favorite character from the Personaverse because of two things: 1) My head canon is that the P3 ending song is sung by her, and the lyrics to that song kill me. 2) I played P4A and saw how much she had matured, and was impressed at the natural, believable character growth. I wish I had the time and desire to get P3Fes and play through it, so I could play The Answer afterwards, but for now I settle for having read a plot summary. I guess it's a bit of an odd choice since most of my fondness for Aigis derives only very indirectly from the personality she displays in P3 (though the uncertain, questing personality she displays after she returns from the initial ordeal also tugs at my heartstrings).
  14. I don't see him very often, but I suppose we're buddies. True. Next person is a problem child.
  15. I haven't seen NGNL yet, but enjoyed Mondaiji a whole lot more than I expected to. The setting really made the show for me - the characters in Mondaiji were ok at best, powers were somewhat interesting but not explained in enough detail for my taste, and the fights are fine but not really my thing. But the setting was very, very compelling, and the humor definitely got through to me on occasion (the long discourse on Black Rabbit's enchanted skirt may have been the high point of the show). Are the Mondaiji light novels worth reading? I think the only English version is a fan translation, right?
  16. I dunno if there are other soundtrack nuts like me out there, but thought I'd mention this just in case. The OST is listed as DLC for the game, somewhat oddly, but it just downloads all the music files into an OST subfolder of the steam game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/326480/ It's $3 for the OST right now (it's on sale now, will go up to $5 at some point). The download includes FLAC, MP3, and WAV formats. I briefly thought it was downloading the whole game again since the download was so huge... The only way I could find the OST previously was through a torrent, which I hate doing, and which moreover didn't include the full versions of the two vocal pieces, "Precious Wing" and "Perfect Sky" - the OST on Steam has the full-length versions of both of those, as well as full-length instrumental versions of them, and of course all the BGM. I was pretty excited about finally getting the full versions of those movie songs - the guitar solo in "Perfect Sky" is excellent.
  17. 6/10 - that style of drawing eyes always weirds me a little.
  18. False. I don't even pajama, bro. Next person has written bad poetry.
  19. I finished the first Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon light novel. It was by no means deep, but it was definitely fun, with the ecchi element being very minor; I'm not chomping at the bit for more, but I'm looking forward to picking up the future books when I need a little break from the more epic stuff. It reminded me a lot of the parts I enjoyed more of the SAO anime, when the interpersonal drama was low but the stakes were still high (like parts of the Aincrad arc). Having finished that little detour, I've since spent maybe an hour or two on the first Lightbringer book, The Black Prism, and it is damn good so far: - characters are already interesting (the apparent hero doesn't look too together so far, but I expect he's supposed to shape up along the way; slightly less main characters are both badass and already surprisingly complex) - magic system is creative, large, and seems to be well-defined. Contrasts strongly with the system from The Night Angel, which was really loose. I find I enjoy well-defined systems more (e.g., Sanderson's Mistborn), so I'm happy about this. - setting, I can't really say much about; I haven't seen enough of the general environment and culture to get a feel for it yet.
  20. Non Non Biyori: This really is the country, isn't it?
  21. Agreed - she's one of the better side characters in the anime. I'm actually surprised to hear how little role she has in the LNs, given how interesting her character is. The Level-Upper arc was actually enjoyable because of the cool Saten stuff that happened... Also, this is literally the first time I saw him smile with his teeth. Kurumi is a legitimate contender for best girl in Kimi ni Todoke. I love that the show has no "bad" people - just people.
  22. A cute but strange college acquaintance (I hardly knew her at the time) once rubbed my head for about a minute, during which time she simply stated "I like heads". It was a surprisingly pleasant experience; A+++, would get my head rubbed by a cute girl again. Had a date with her, many months later, (I like cute but strange) but it didn't go anywhere. I should probably facebook stalk her for a bit see what she's up to these days. I relate to this comment far too much. Confession: I forgot to put in a confession and had to go back and edit my post just so it would have a confession.
  23. False. Next person is "learning Japanese", but not really studying as much as they ought to be.
