Confession: Whenever I go to a new Chinese restaurant, I pretty much invariably order the Mapo Tofu, not because I like it so much (it's ok, but usually nothing special), but rather because of Angel Beats!.

True. My alarm is set for 6:30 AM on weekdays, and I often get up before it. Next person's keyboard is back-lit.

What is your most hated anime character?

True. This is my jam: Next person isn't wearing pants.

I watched about 2 minutes of the original Twitch Plays Pokemon (that was the original of these things, right?), and decided that it was interesting, but not that interesting (mostly because, as inevitably happens, 75% of the people "playing" were assholes). Every successive one has been even more infuriating to watch. I propose renaming this genre of twitch to: "A Small Number of Unreasonably Committed People Try To Play <insertGameHere> Through A Ridiculously Poor Interface While A Bunch Of Jerks Harass Them"

Sounds like a winner to me. My copy of Re;birth 1 arrived from Amazon today, so we'll see how it goes!

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Fred the Barber replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
My copy of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 arrived today. Time to figure out exactly what I've gotten myself into, aside from (in solidbatman's words) "the Japanese, moe, ecchi, JPRG version of CoD". -
Just finished Brandon Sanderson's Firefight. He's still consistently great at what he does; it's kind of scary, really. For something completely different, since I found it on Kindle, I've decided to next try the Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon LN series. Will report back on progress. I expect that'll be a quick read, and I'll probably move on to Lightbringer after that.
-
Finished Non Non Biyori. While there was nothing mind-meltingly amazing in there, it certainly had me smiling all the way through, and that's worth a lot. Next up, for something complete different, is probably Revolutionary Girl Utena, but we could see a dark horse candidate emerge from one of the four "Love" shows in my queue (KoiChoco, Love Live, Chuunibyo, and Love Hina). Probably not KoiChoco, since I'm hoping to play the VN first, but... well, we'll see what happens tomorrow when it's time to press Play.

This is a very helpful thread; piracy leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I don't have any contacts in Japan (though the OriginalRen VN Shipping Service is tempting), so I'm trying out JList for this (I think I previously bought a localized copy of KonoSora from them?). Their markups seem substantial, but not intolerable. Despite having only played three VNs that I did not know how to acquire legally, the initial outlay for those games was... decidedly not cheap. Ahh, well, tomorrow's payday anyway.

9/10. That flan looks tasty. The girl's ok, too, I guess.

Confession: This thread serious-ed up too much. Confession: At work, every time someone sends a code review updating the pom.xml file, I misread the name and briefly get very concerned. (gratuitous detail here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Maven#Project_Object_Model)

True... if you can call this dinner: http://www.spacenutrientsstation.com. I do not know why I thought the craziest of my crazy friends could possibly be on the right track with respect to a weird food trend. Next person has a cuddly pet.

Yeah, 13 volumes of Spice and Wolf are out now. 13 came out in December, and Amazon is saying 14 will be out in April and 15 in August, so it's looking like they keep up a regular rate that'll have them completely done early next year. Per Amazon, volume 1 was released way back in 2009, so I don't think they're going any faster with it, but rather they've just been working on it for a long while. Probably the same is true of Haruhi. The only downside (to me) of the Spice and Wolf books is that there's no Kindle version, so I have to get the dead tree version and further fill up my limited shelf space...

False, since though I'm definitely a stay-at-home kind of person, all dates I can recall from even remotely recent history were out and about. Next person learned something today.

8/10 Cute. Eyepatch. What's not to like?

Confirmed. Confession: But it's been a while.

Gaming devices you wish you had, but never did
Fred the Barber replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Gaming Talk
It didn't? But maybe now it does? I dunno, I can't keep console back-compat stories straight ever since the last generation when the PS3 back-compat story got worse with each successive month (and, importantly, price drop). -
Nosebleed, from your "Plan to Watch" list, I would suggest either of Haibane Renmei or Girls und Panzer, depending on the mood you're in. Haibane Renmei is amazing; easily on my top... umm... 18. I have a top shelf with 18 things on it, anyway, and it's there. It's mysterious, soothing... a little bit old now, I guess, but endearing and heartwarming. Many unusual adjectives for an anime; it's not really like anything else I've ever watched. I've heard it called a masterpiece before, and I don't disagree. I think I watched the whole series in two days, which is really unusual for me (normally I'm a one-episode-per-day person). Girls und Panzer didn't initially sound that interesting to me, but I pushed myself to watch it since I heard a lot of enthusiasm. It's cute. Really really really cute. There's not a lot else positive I can say for it (also, I thought the OVAs were terrible - total waste of time), but sometimes, really really really cute is exactly what you're looking for.

Hello Sirs and Madams of the internet.
Fred the Barber replied to Shikomizue's topic in Introduce Yourself
Welcome! I like Angel Beats! quite a bit, partially on its own merits, and partially because it was the last step on the road that led me to watching Clannad. From there, it was only a little more watching and internetting before I found myself wanting to play the Little Busters! VN, resulting in me landing right here. So, that said, given you like Angel Beats!, you should definitely give some more Key stuff a try - I can't recommend the Rewrite VN enough. Enjoy your stay! -
I was kind of expecting that, since it is "Persona 4 Dancing All Night"... but on the other hand, the fighting games with all the P3 characters in them were "Persona 4 Arena", so I guess the name is shaky evidence at best.

Gaming devices you wish you had, but never did
Fred the Barber replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Gaming Talk
Ahh, yeah, I keept forgetting Persona 5 isn't a PS4 exclusive (at least, I'm pretty sure it's not). I also doubt they would make big differences between the PS3 version and PS4 version of of Persona 5, but since I'm going to be getting the PS4 for Disgaea 5 come hell or high water, I might as well get it for Persona 5 as well, so I can hopefully put away the PS3... except that I just realized Tales of Zestiria is supposed to be out in Q2 2015, and it's PS3 only, so I guess my PS3 is not going to be hiding any time soon. Oh well. -
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Fred the Barber replied to ExtraMana's topic in The Coliseum of Chatter
My bad, that came off as too negative. The shock of seeing your name over something other than a cute freaking-out girl pushed me into saying something mean. The new avatar is excellent as well! And, umm, so I don't derail the thread too much: The music was the highlight of the MLP scene for me as well, both the official music and the fanmade. I don't know what the community is doing these days, but a couple years ago when I was following it closely, PinkiePieSwear was putting out some amazing music, and then sadly kind of trailed off (and then there were some other people too ). Anything of his caliber happening today? Oh, man, watching/listening to this one for the first time in a long time really makes me want to go back to watching technicolor ponies... -
