  1. Good call, I thought Link Between Worlds was wonderful. Although I think maybe 25% of my appreciation of the game was my nostalgia for Link to the Past, the remaining 75% was because it's a seriously great game. I really thought the "turn into a painting" mechanic was going to be a total gimmick, and then they made an awesome Zelda game that incorporated it as a non-gimmicky, totally-necessary-to-solving-the-puzzle, makes-you-use-your-head, trying-think-of-more-stuff-to-hyphenate-but-not-coming-up-with-anything mechanic. Well played, Nintendo.
  2. True if you mean like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, false if you mean like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Next person wanted to go to Clown College.
  3. Baking isn't hard. Main things to watch are: 1) get a good recipe 2j) follow it carefully 3) don't overmix things 4) bake things through, but don't overbake (get wooden toothpicks; use wooden toothpicks to check if it's done) A little bit of practice goes a long way. Here's a show-offy thing that I like to make (though I usually drop the ganache filling, since the end result of the whole shebang can be a bit too rich): http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/01/car-bomb-cupcakes/ And an easier, very different, but equally tasty recipe: http://www.thewednesdaychef.com/the_wednesday_chef/2011/08/clementine-bakerys-banana-cake.html
  4. It was a triple layer cake too I figured "I'll let my wife probably end up doing most of the cooking for dinner, I'll be in charge of the confectioneries." Well done! There's a certain beauty to a home-made buttercream-frosted cake, and yours definitely has it.
  5. I haven't watched since Season 2. I liked season 2 well enough, but I think the long hiatus between 2 and 3 made me lose interest. Nothing was ever as glorious as "Winter Wrap-up" for me; that was the first real musical number, I never saw it coming, and it was absolutely magical for me (pun somewhat intended). Everything after that was denouement. Nosebleed is right, though - Rarity all the way. Though sometimes Rainbow Dash contends for best pony, and even Fluttershy has her moments. It really depends on the day (or, at least, it did back when I watched...). There's a bigger issue at play here, though. Nosebleed. Your avatar is at most 50% as kawaii as it was yesterday. This one has its merits, to be sure, but... I dunno.
  6. I know that feel, bro. I went to work, and I'm pretty sure I worked, and if I think really hard, I can maybe think of something extremely minor that I accomplished today. Maybe. Nothing so far, but... maybe. I probably made somebody I like angry at me, by doing the right thing at the time. So that felt great. Confession: I didn't mean to confess anything there, but I'm pretty sure I just did anyway.
  7. Your waifu bears a striking resemblence to the Smash Bros. sandbag:
  8. For the last few months, I've been watching Amazon recommend this game to me even though I have no idea what it is. Then for the few weeks since I joined the Fuwa forums, I've seen people periodically chatter about it with great enthusiasm, and put it in their signatures, and whatnot. "Kosaki's a bit of a strange guy, but he plays with me in the True/False thread, so he can't be all bad, and maybe he's onto something here," I think to myself. So then I wander over to this thread thinking maybe this will tell me if I should play these games, and here you have summarized everything I needed to know in less than 10 words. I don't even like CoD (and I get that you're mocking them for churning out presumably-sub-par games at a prodigious rate), but I am nonetheless sold. I needed a new JRPG anyway. Something tells me I don't want to be playing this on my commute, unless I get some sort of screen polarizing cover for my Vita so people don't see what I'm playing over my shoulder... but nonetheless! Anyway, what's the right starting point for this series, assuming I have All The Consoles and generally prefer to use a portable one? Re;birth 1 on the Vita?
  9. I'm patiently waiting for Persona 5 or Disagaea 5 to come out so I can buy a $400 Persona 5-and-Disagaea 5 machine. Bravely Default. It's awesome. What are you waiting for (aside from up to 4 weeks)?
  10. This trailer just reminds that Rise really does have too much hair.
  11. But the martini is probably helping with the soothing, too.
  12. First I clicked: Then after 30 seconds or so, I clicked: And now I am soothed.
  13. ... somehow it looks more like a punching bag than a dakimakura. Poor Komari-chan.
  14. Damn, I'd forgotten how great the Madoka soundtrack is until you linked that. I must have it. Regarding Spice and Wolf mentioned above: yeah, I liked season 2 better than season 1 as well, particularly the first half of season 2. The two seasons collectively cover 4 of the light novels, of which there are... (checking wikipedia...) 17, apparently. Anyway, 13 of them are out in translation now, and they've been releasing a new one every few months; I have a nice little stack of finished ones and a nice little stack of not started ones, waiting for me when I'm ready for some more feels. I highly recommend them, if you enjoyed the show! So many people talking about Golden Time. I'd been on the fence about watching this one because of mixed reviews, but you guys are so positive about it that I'm thinking I should just go for it. Just finished watching episode 10 of Non Non Biyori (first sunrise of the year). It made my heart ache. So. Cute. I always knew Candy Store had it in her to be best girl.
  15. Since graduating college (more years ago than I will admit), I've been commuting to work on the bus, about 1 hour per weekday on average. All that time gets spent either reading a book or playing a portable console, so I really spend a lot of time with portable consoles (probably more gaming time than with home conoles, lately, though that's somewhat cyclic). I would both love and dread to go back through my game library and see how many tens (hundreds?) of hours I spent on each of The World Ends With You, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, the various Disgaea games, and on and on...
  16. I finally pushed myself to start DA:I today. I don't know why but the characters in Dragon Age games always look slightly off to me, and it's making it tough for me to get attached to my main character. Also, I'm apparently terrible at the rift sealing mechanic - I spent about 10 minutes in the Prologue boss fight periodically jumping around near the spot where I was supposed to press A, and then giving up having decided that maybe I was just supposed to wail on him until he decided he wasn't invincible.
  17. Yeah, I already read Night Angel trilogy, and that's why I'm really looking forward to Lightbringer (though I've kind of been trying to be patient and wait for the fourth and final Lightbringer book to come out, so I can just read them all in a row). Night Angel is the only series I can think of that just continuously got better right through to the very end. The first few chapters of Way of Shadows had me worried that I might not like the book at all, but then every few chapters after, I'd find I was enjoying it more and more. That's probably not that unusual when you're first getting used to a new author, a new setting, etc., but it was really magical for me that somehow that same feeling kept up throughout the entire series, culminating in jaw-droppingly wonderful ending. For what it's worth, there are probably a very small number of authors I would gush like this about. When it comes to fantasy/sci-fi, Brandon Sanderson and Brent Weeks are pretty much the whole list. I would probably say Rothfuss there too, if only he would actually write something more often than once per decade...
  18. So, here's one that is fairly commonly-known but which I still find interesting: why is a clear sky blue?
  19. Confession: I spent about 10 minutes waiting for a pot of water to boil before checking on it and noticing that the stove wasn't on.
  20. False. I used to do the thing with the things and the stuff, but I gave it up a few years ago; nowadays I just do the stuff with the stuff and the things. Next person is honing a plan for world domination hinging on the assistance of moe girls, cats, and moe cat-girls.
  21. I thought Wise Man's Fear was great, though maybe not quite as amazing as Name of the Wind. The bigger problem is wondering how long it's going to be until book 3 comes out... Patrick Rothfuss seems to take an eternity to write anything.
  22. I just stumbled across this project thanks to Satsuki's signature and gave you guys a little kick on Kickstarter. I really love the character art! Good luck, as you are hopefully entering the home stretch, and keep up the good work! Also, if you want another set of experienced eyes to read the English script and help you weed out grammar / spelling issues, drop me a line.
  23. Heterochromia. Fortunately, in VNs/anime/etc., it doesn't usually (ever?) come with the associated other physical problems that it usually does in real life (though there are many different causes of it in real life)...
  24. white/silver/grey > red > purple/blue/other exotic colors > black > brown > blonde That's probably too specific to count as an unpopular opinion, so here's one: the whole otakuscape would be better if there were no yanderes
