  1. That example doesn't really illustrate your point as all of those MG titles other than Kuroinu are fully translated and near release while those SP titles are in early stages and probably a year+ away from coming out. Clannad is pretty much the only example of a major SP title that was translated internally that wasn't beset with delays. MangaGamer has the occasional project that takes too long, but they churn out longer titles much more reliably than anyone else in this business right now.
  2. I agree, MangaGamer doesn't do hardcopies at launch to minimize risk, but with Rance they would definitely sell enough to justify it.
  3. Rance will definitely sell enough to get a hard copy.
  4. I'd be very surprised if Rance doesn't eventually get a hardcopy. It won't be at release though.
  5. If things really went down, there were a ton of internal reasons for it and this twitter drama was not the real cause.
  6. Doujin games maybe, but there's been talk that breaking into the manga market has been more difficult than they expected.
  7. SP already has PR people. Dovac just constantly undermines them by ranting and getting involved in petty shit. The guy just can't keep his mouth shut and it has hurt his company.
  8. Kickstarter prices are rarely the baseline full price for a game. That's expected. And it's $26 if they sell chapters 4&5 at the same price which is a fair price. Though I still need to read the free chapter. What's the consensus on the translation quality?
  9. Doddler needs to port the game, so they aren't even at the testing phase.
  10. There's probably not a better patch coming, so it's a real question. Erengy hasn't said anything that he hasn't been saying for the past 3 years, there's no real reason to expect a different result this time.
  11. The common route being the main "plot" and the routes being a series of small conflicts that are quickly resolved is an interesting way to structure the game. The character routes don't really linger on drama and instead focus on mushy romance and sex scenes. Granted I haven't played Akane's route yet so maybe something actually happens in that one. I don't get why Yuzu's translated dialogue has her speaking in the 3rd person so many times when even the Japanese voice doesn't have her doing so. Her character feels flanderized.
  12. I don't think they did, they're translating it on their own.
  13. There are a couple of interesting scenes in the Xtend content, but for the most part it's not terribly consequential. Most of it is repeated scenes or things you already knew but didn't have spelled out.
  14. It's happening with other Japanese games on Steam too. The ease of self-publishing through digital distribution is what opened these doors. Any company can get something through Greenlight and these Japanese publishers can hire the same contractors that localize the games so another publisher becomes a middleman that they can cut out in many cases.
  15. The guy who wrote it is from the Philippines. And if you want to use his writing skills to judge his ability to do PR, that's one thing, using it to judge translation work done by completely other people is without basis.
  16. Yeah, it makes zero sense, especially at it was probably written by helrouis, a community manager whose writing skills have nothing to do with the quality of any localization. There are reasons to worry about the quality of the translations, this Kickstarter update is absolutely not one of them.
  17. It's not going to just barely make it. It'll do over 145k at this point.
  18. Unless you were hoping to meet a stretch goal it doesn't even matter. There's 4 entire days left. It's 15k away, it'll do that in the last 24 hours alone.
  19. 180k is probably too far to reach anyway, but yeah, after today there's no doubt that this is getting funded.
  20. The tiers finally look pretty well rounded, though it took a long time to get there. With the bump this will give the project, I don't think there is much doubt left that this will get funded.
  21. They've fixed a lot of the problems with the tiering here. The $99 Vita option is still a bit overpriced as you'll probably be able to just wait a year and buy it at half that price on release, but I suppose that's the price you pay if you want to ensure this gets released at all. And I suspect this will give it enough of a boost to ensure it will get funded, it only needed another moderate bump from where it already was before.
  22. If they get to 100k before the last 3 days the final surge will probably push it over the base goal.
  23. So final count for the day, 9.5k and 129 backers. Which is enough that if this bump has any more legs there's a good chance this gets funded.
  24. For all the doom and gloom, this bump hasn't stopped yet and they're nearing 8k for the day. It'll need some legs from here, but the project being funded now is hardly unthinkable. And no, this raffle isn't going to cause a stir, no one cares.
