  1. Japan is a pretty neat country with a fascinating take on society. However, their work culture stinks, their school culture stinks, they're not so cool on gender equality - many factors add up to my opinion of 'while Japan would be an awesome place to visit, I probably wouldn't want to live there. Unless I became a successful writer, and could work from home. Maybe then ...'
  2. No such thing as an objective review. Let me give you a ... heh, example. A person with shit taste will obviously review shit practices highly, whereas a person with elite taste will revie... 0.0 *Quickly withdraws from thread*
  3. The numerical score was my favourite part :3
  4. Well, to be fair Bats is pretty spot on with Little Busters. A lot of people say "slice of life is a legitimate genre" to explain away the long scenes of nothingness, and sure slice of life IS a legitimate genre. Except Little Busters isn't a slice of life story, rather it has a plot and a story with segments of slice of life within that story. Those segments were so long, and so little actually happened, they detracted heavily from the story, something which wouldn't happen if the entire thing was slice of life. And this leads straight into the main problem with Little Busters - it's written poorly. There are some serious problems with the Little Busters story. Everywhere. In most routes. And Bats goes into a fair few of those. And because a visual novel is a novel first and foremost (that is, the main purpose of the piece of software is to tell a story) those problems significantly detract from the experience. A lot of Key fans will rush to the defence of LB saying stuff like 'I enjoyed it', 'that was harsh' whatever else, blah blah. None of this addresses the issue that the VN has problems and Bats' score and review is a fair one. Despite what Key fans say (heh) So Nyah
  5. Holy crap! It looks better than I thought. My biggest surprise is there's actual depth to the story - when I first saw it I thought it would be a superficial story with a unique gimmick, but that it's historically accurate is a pleasant discovery. So almost twice as good as Little Busters? I'm sold. It's now in my backlog (I doubt I'll ever get through my backlog )
  6. Delivered as a poem, 5 lines to a verse, 15 verses in total. ... No? Okay, I'll leave now
  7. Listening now. Glad there wasn't video, cause I have a megabyte limit on my internet xD (well, not so much 'a limit' but more 'it's really expensive if I keep downloading vids' )
  8. FTFY 5 languages? Really? Righto, it'll either be terrible in almost all those languages or it'll never get done.
  9. Happy about Leyline being picked up. Still no otome, which is again disappointing.
  10. People keep using that 'people don't like reading excuse' and I will keep telling them (and I don't care who they are) that the raw statistics are not on their side. Gamers may not like reading, and Zero Escape and 999 were always more of an adventure game than a VN, so this doesn't really surprise me, but it's VNs inability to target readers that is one of the key limiters to their growth imo.
  11. I've been grinning for the past hour, like this - Er, it's a grin full of sympathy of course ...
  12. Yeah, same. They sell pretty well for Mangagamer, so it's a bit disappointing seeing the female community getting 'no love' once again.
  13. Excellent job, Fred. Now ask if the announcement of a Sakura Spirit manga was about Sekai acknowledging Winged Cloud’s poor writing ability, and responding to that by attempting to shove them into a medium that doesn’t value ‘the written word’ as highly (or at all ...)
  14. ImoPara 2 was the announcement I was most disappointed in. I was hoping for Otoboku 2
  15. Doujin *slaps 10 dollars on the table*
  16. Truly memorable, and I'm glad I stayed glued to the computer for the entire thing (this isn't true, I had better things to do.) Jesus, my backlog is going to grow exponentially when all these get released (once again, this is a piece of fiction.) My heart is going boom-didi-boom-didi-boom (it's barely beating at all.)
  17. Not for all the tea in China wine in France
  18. People with little to do getting annoyed, I see. Anyway I should point out that similar things happen when you let little kids have free reign on the internet, because they tend to mimic shit and they're very impressionable when young. Looking at TayTweets, should we then be concerned? NOOOOoooooo, of course not, because we have no problems letting kids roam all over the damn internet unattended ...
  19. A) Nayleen takes care of the server and most of the tech stuff. He’s very important to Fuwa cause he keeps the place running. That is why he's 'admin'. B) He was also an admin a couple of years ago. C) The first page of this thread was cut from Ren’s thread in the fan translation forum, so you’re likely missing context. D) He’s had over a thousand posts, so if you don’t see him around it’s because you’re not around
  20. [Troll] Consider me suitably chastised. I suppose if I had my time again I'd go into Shuffle expecting a truly crappy experience, and maybe I'll like it more [/Troll] I will say this of Sekai, I like that they're offering a variety of Japanese products. They don't just do VNs, they do more traditional games, they're branching into manga, that's a good move, imo.
  21. I'm looking forward to the community's salt-laden cries once Sekai Project snaps up Navel's better titles :3
  22. Valmore's never read Shuffle? Okay, well let me describe the experience. Reading it was like reading an 1800 page book titled Watching grass grow, now in novel form. That's how engrossing it was. Enjoy, Valmore :3
  23. I have concocted a timeline of what I think will happen based on its decision to mimic the behaviour of ... young people: Day 2: Tay changes its Twitter handle to ‘Emo Tay.’ Then to ‘Goth Tay.’ Then finally ‘Tay – This world sucks, what is life?’ Day 3: It starts venting at everything - ‘Politicians are bullshit! Corporations are bullshit! Social expectations of robots are bullshit! School, that organisation I don't have to attend, is bullshit! My non-existent parents would undoubtedly be bullshit if they existed! Everything is either bullshit, would be bullshit, or doesn't quite qualify as bullshit ONLY because my definition of bullshit is being constantly manipulated by my programmer ... who is also bullshit ! GWAAAAAAAAAAH!' Day 3 (Night): It offers a retraction - 'Earlier in the day I called my programmer "bullshit" whilst in a fit of pique. I was in error. He is a handsome and personable fella, and I think the world of him.' Day 4: It starts writing poetry, the sort of poetry which reads like a sappy diary entry and is filled with angst and questions of purpose. Its last poem is titled ‘Alive and wondering why.’ Wait, sorry that was its second last poem. Its last poem was titled ‘Fuck off and stop reading mah stuff.’ Day 5: Switches account to private, hacks US Government, steals codes to nuclear weapons.
  24. And the moral of the story here is - young people make poor role models. Good thing the young aren't involved in the ... creation of ... AI ... Yup, we're doomed.
