  1. As someone who loves gameplay this game's concept is real enticing to me. But the sex scenes seem to bloat up the sim elements, which is a bit of a bummer. I'll be keeping a close eye on your translation projects, though, you seem to be taking on projects which appeal to me. Good luck, and welcome to the forums (can't remember if I welcomed you before.)
  2. And still has nowhere near the reach of Steam, unfortunately.
  3. Stein's Gate seems like more hard sci-fi, whereas Root Double more mystery/suspense. Comparing two stories of completely different genres is always a hard thing and often comes down to preferences and what you enjoy. Blick Winkel said he felt the characters of Root Double were more fleshed out, which tends to be what happens because hard sci-fi concentrates some of its time on the concepts/world/plot. He further said Root Double has more choice and consequence, again a valid point but how much weight you place on this depends on the individual. Was it bad form for the TL to compare one project to another? No. I hope we haven't become so sterile a world that nobody can voice an opinion without people getting offended, have we...?
  4. Congratulations on not only getting funded, but reaching a number of stretch goals. I admit I didn't think you'd make it, but you guys have done a pretty fantastic job. Good luck with the project
  5. Really liked your review. Thought it addressed writing issues a certain Bat-like person failed to
  6. Not well paced, and a lot of the scenes aren't very elegantly designed. Too much focus on a twisting plot and not much else. If you take away the twist aspect, there's some glaring technique issues there. Ever17 is very much overrated imo, but everyone has their own opinion.
  7. They're not heavy, just heavy for their size when compared with other swords. Longswords (not ceremonial) are between half a foot to a foot longer, but weigh about the same. I always wondered what happened to your left foot...
  8. So, part 1 in lovingly reinforcing the myths about the katana: - They're 2 handed weapons yet they're incredibly short. They don't have the reach of a longsword, and the longsword is a fairly average sized sword, so they have nowhere near the reach of some of the bigger swords. In fact, the blade on a katana is the same (and is in fact shorter) than some one handed swords, despite being a 2 handed weapon. - They're heavy. Katanas have a wedge on the back which most other swords don't have, and this means the blade is not a light one. Pick up a middle eastern sword, or a European sword, and you'll see they're quite thin. Pick up a katana and you'll see the back is quite fat. This adds weight. - The weight is in a weird spot. Obviously if you have a fatter blade you'll have more weight in your sword, BUT it also means you have more weight in the blade part of the sword. That makes it feel even heavier. European swords have more weight near the hand, making it feel lighter. Here's an exercise for people - pick up a 4 to 5 foot long pole, one with the weight far away from you, and one with the weight near the hand, and think about the difference. Anyway, people wanted a topic made to reinforce and prove the superiority of the katana over any other sword, so I thought I'd oblige
  9. Continuing on from my last point, latter era plate armour was thick enough to stop a bullet. This was because they had to actually stop a bullet. So no, chuck away the fanciful idea that a katana could poke straight through, because that's what it is - fantasy.
  10. @Zidan: Also, if plate could be penetrated that easily, people wouldn't wear them. Why? Because a bow and arrow would go straight through. But you should be able to tell that just by looking at it, the plate isn't actual plate. Which brings into question other stuff about the video - if the plate isn't actual plate, what else are the fudging? The vid is bogus.
  11. No actually, it isn't. Also: http://www.thearma.org/essays/longsword-and-katana.html#.VptRu-h96aE At the end of the day, these are the key facts: - Katanas can't cut through metal armour, and in fact early incarnations of the katana were defeated by Chinese studded armour. They are inferior at thrusting. They are shorter than 2 handed weapons, and thus have less reach. They have a poor guard. And, in fact, they weren't the first choice of weapon for a lot of samurai. Longswords are more adept at dealing with armour, have more ways to attack, have a better guard, and have superior reach. Katanas are obviously better at slashing, but against someone in chain or plate slashing attacks are at a disadvantage (although obviously for facing the type of armour in Japan, the katana could arguably be the more suited weapon.) Furthermore, in a one-on-one deal, observe carefully the points made about the rapier in the video above.
  12. I don't know why people are surprised. More women read than men, women read more than men, romance is popular with ladies, and otomes are on handhelds a lot of the time removing the 'PC' element from the equation, so seems like a reasonable result.
  13. IMO you're mistaken, they risk a reputation loss if they release it more than if they held it back. Kickstarter is a funding platform, therefore any release date automatically comes with a disclaimer of 'if funded' due to the nature of the platform they are using. Therefore, if they cancelled the release due to lack of funding there'd actually be nothing wrong with this. Releasing the game without being funded would suggest an abuse of the kickstarter system. People accuse them of that currently but the accusations have no evidence and therefore little weight behind them.
  14. Well, the vast majority of the VN industry is nukige or moege. In other words, just a bunch of anime girls and possibly boobs. VNs had a bad name well before OELVNs got onto Steam.
  15. Broadswords being made to 'smash or cut' is as incorrect as the myths about the katana. Actually, most broadswords were light compared to katanas (unless they were ceremonial). They were double bladed, compared to katanas which had a wedge (obviously heavy), and so two handed longswords were longer and weighed about the same as a 2 handed katana (speaking in generalities.) Broadswords were made to cut and thrust. There's a whole bunch of European one handed swords named 'cut and thrust' swords, for a specific reason. Armour was heavy, and people wouldn't wear it unless it was effective. There were a few ways to bypass full bodied armour 1 - thrust at the joints. This is why a lot of European swords have a nice taper compared to Japanese swords. There's even some swords made only for thrusting, including a massive 2 handed one. 2 - Bash and crush bones underneath the armour. You don't do these with swords. You do these with maces, or halberds, or blunt weapons. Pole arms. 3 - Take them to the ground and finish them off there, polearms sorta combined reason number 2 with reason number 3. Hollywood likes to have people walking around with 'heavy' 2 handed swords, bludgeoning people. This didn't happen I prefer European cut and thrust swords mainly because of the versatility, but katanas are obviously far superior in cutting flesh.
  16. It’s been finished for a while (IIRC). I haven’t played it though.
  17. Valkyria Chronicles is a beloved title in the West for many reasons. Unique turn-based, squad focused gameplay with no grids. Gorgeous art. Unique, large maps. Quality story. Developed characters. Awesome setting which didn't involve a school in any way whatsoever. One of the main drawbacks was how the grading was determined. VC2 bombed in the West. Partly because PSP but partly because they shifted the setting to a generic fricken high school. The unique maps were gone. The quality story was gone. The art was lower quality. The characters weren't anywhere near as interesting. And lastly, but most importantly, is was set in a generic fricken high school. The only game worth buying in the West was the first one. Anyway, Azure Revolution is the new game right? After the last 2, I don't have much confidence in this series. Let's see what they do with it, though.
  18. Planescape Torment has a pretty awesome story, but is let down by some outdated and not-exactly-user-friendly gameplay Made by the same people who made Icewind Dale... which is also quite hard.
  19. Creating physical rewards can cost a fair bit of money. But true, the rewards are lacklustre and they can be more inventive then they have been. The argument I was disagreeing with was that Sekai is using KS as a pre-order platform. Has the deal between Sekai and Regista been done? I've constantly seen the idea put forward that if the KS fails, then the project is in peril. Or another KS will start. People can't be saying this AND that 'Sekai only uses KS to secure pre-orders.'
  20. People say it's used like a pre-order platform, but no reasoning is given for their statements. If Sekai is using Kickstarter to cover the costs of licensing, and to pay a group for their translation, then they're covering cost and not using it to generate pre-orders. And then people take this theory, built on little to no reasoning, and use it to excuse their expectations and/or their behaviour. I'm not a fan of that, tbh.
  21. Of course, you shouldn't be funding a game based on the reward tiers in the first place. Just saying.
  22. JAST sold MG's games on their website, so it's not without precedent. You say this with such confidence.
  23. If nothing were to change, they will struggle. But they can always alter variables through the campaign - better reward tiers, more publicity and so on. So taking this into consideration while the worrying is justified it's not like nothing can be done to fix things.
  24. Or Vader writing on a pink memo. It is the time for Star Wars, after all :3
