  1. *Snort* You really don't know Bats very well . Salt is the source of his strength - the more salt there is, the more energy he has to interact with his girlfriend. And he likes interacting with his girlfriend... or so the rumours say. I completely missed this 0.0 I wish them luck, even though I've never read it and probably never will (not really my kind of story.)
  2. Because it’s an easy out. Basically you improve your relationship by taking an interest in your sister’s activities and life, and giving her your time and attention. It’s not really desirable because it tends to mean you doing something you may not want to do, but that’s just life, and love is something which requires work and commitment to nurture. The idea of doing something you both enjoy is applying a limited version of this technique, limited because you’re obviously only taking an interest as long as it’s during an activity you both enjoy. It tends to build a more superficial relationship, because relationships based around anime and games will never have a depth to it, but a lot of people are fine with that. BWAHAHAHA, your older sister is awesome. Anyone who pesters Tiag enjoys the blessings of Fate and will benefit from much luck throughout life, so your older sister was only taking care of her younger sibling ... not you obviously, the other one
  3. I disagree with Kawasumi, but welcome all the same…
  4. And if you listen to the Big Bang Theory, 'there are many studies that suggest that people who go into the performing arts suffer from an external locus of identity,' which explains your question
  5. That seems to be the way things work with Kickstarter. Kickstarter is like a patronage system, and in my experience watching kickstarters the more that is known about developers and/or a particular game, the better a kickstarter will potentially do. This is because there will be more confidence in investors. Muv Luv benefitted from people having experience with the game, same with Clannad and Grisaia, people knew what they were getting. If I look at the RPG scene, the greatest investments were given to proven and well-known developers with solid demos and/or detailed plans. Because Mikandi Japan is unknown in the West, my view is the more information available about the VN the better. The less is known, the riskier the investment, and the less likely people will take the plunge. That’s just my 3 ¼ gold-painted, lead coins anyway (obviously valuable...)
  6. That explanation will struggle to wash even in the anime/VN community, let alone people not used to it xD
  7. Debateable. However, creators tend to have a primary goal in mind of which they’ll prioritise above most anything else. Because while it can be argued that art and entertainment aren’t always mutually exclusive, at some point these goals will clash and then you will have to make a decision, and often sacrifices. It’s fairly obvious what these creators have sacrificed in their intention to make art and a meaningful experience. And it's these decisions and sacrifices which define what kind of creators they are, and what kind of work they produce.
  8. Zalor to translate Dies Irae next year, confirmed! Good luck with your studies
  9. I really like the technique where text takes up only half the screen, resembling a single page of a novel. It's very pleasing aesthetically to me.
  10. You don’t have to wait for Kojima to code this for you, you can give this radical system a go any time you wish. Take a game from your extensive (or otherwise) video game collection -> insert disc into console -> play game until you inevitably cock up and die -> eject disc -> grab hammer -> pound fanatically. Voila, one Kojima style Perma-death game. What fun! The lack of people actually doing this indicates that such a system would have little lasting appeal within the gaming community... that or people actually do rely on technology to do every little thing for them.
  11. That's right up my alley ...dagnabbit
  12. One of my pet peeves with VNs is both related and unrelated to your topic. Sudden change of genres which can induce sudden and unexpected episodes of drama is my problem. Take Little Busters for example, which went something like this. Slice of Life, Slice of Life, comedy, minigame, comedy, SoL, SoL, enter Kud's route... WTF was that bullshit?!!! Kud has to be one of the easiest examples of forced drama you can point to in the translated VN landscape. People tend to defend excessive slice of life sequences, and that's fine, the problem is excessive slice of life sequences in a story which turns out not to be about slice of life, which is when it screws up the pacing of the plot. Or slice of life which suddenly turns incredibly dark. Or incredibly actiony. Or just incredibly stupid. And usually these separate aspects are shoehorned into the VN in terrible ways with no hint that something is coming. It feels like a transparent attempt to grab more readers, but most readers only like reading 1 or 2 genres, so incorporating all genres in your VN won't actually mean more people will read it.
  13. There are two types of video game creators, there are the type looking to entertain the consumer, and then there are the type looking to create 'art' and to 'channel experiences' to the consumer. This looks to be from the latter. The arty creator will try and be innovative, and original, and creative, and give the audience something new, and hardly any of these ideas will last more than a couple of months because they usually rely on gimmicks to get the job done. Oh look, a perma-death gimmick, this is my impressed face...
  14. Second verse, same as the first.
  15. Yeah, JRPGs are sometimes embarrassingly cheesy, although the same can be said for anime (shounen and shoujo) as well. It's that sort of stuff which helps perpetuate the idea that JRPGs are for youngsters, and I'd really wish they'd knock it off. I haven't got to the 'tiresome' stage yet, I'm still in the 'roll my eyes then try and get others to play it for the lulz' stage. Okay, I just finished listening to that video and I completely agree with the first 3 minutes of that video (it got a bit forced after that.) And I really do mean 'completely agree', I have the same complaints with saccharine story themes like the ludicrously fictional power of Love and Friendship. EDIT: Double post to give the mods some work. You're welcome
  16. If you use the red arrows which appear inside the quote boxes to insert blank lines between the different people quoting, you can delete individual quotes no problem.
  17. Please. We have Christmas, Easter, Valentine's, New Year's, all foreign holidays. The Queen's birthday is also a holiday which didn't originate in Australia. Yet Halloween is a holiday which involves disturbing folk, some of whom don't want to participate, for the sole purpose of dispensing treats for free. Worst still, it encourages petty vandalism under the heading of 'good-natured tomfoolery'. It's something I don't subscribe to. I hear in America if you have your porch light off it is a sign that you are not participating, this seems like an awesome idea, because while I have don't have a qualm with others enjoying themselves on any given day of the year, I enjoy my peace and quiet and would very much prefer not to be disturbed.
  18. My impression as well, it looks like a high quality nukige, but I get the same impression from it that I do from Starless. People are constantly surprised when nukige contain an actual story (like Bible Black) but that doesn't stop the sex from being the main aspect of the game.
  19. Ditto. Amazing review, Ren.
  20. I won’t be. Life’s too short and time’s too precious to wade through hundreds of thousands of word of tedium, foreshadowy shit it may be, to eke out a modicum of entertainment later on. There’s too many other great stories to be read for that. A lot of Japanese VNs are bloated to the hilt, i.e. they tend to be full of meandering, meaningless stuff. If someone wants to drop it, I won't be pressuring them to continue. Encouraging the consumer to keep reading is the author's job.
  21. I will defenestrate the first person to charge me '10 dollarydoos' >:c
  22. I want to second this. Hands down the best psychological anime I've seen. EDIT: Although I agree with Down that it's more philosophical than psychological.
  23. I know what I'll be playing in 2017 - Harebrained Schemes' new Battletech game, which is on Kickstarter right now, and my God it looks amazing! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/battletech Also, Age of Decadence just released to the satisfaction of many :3
  24. Dearest Kaguya Your taste in colours is dubious; the condition of your eyes suspect. Pls obtain new pair from local 'chop shop'. Lots of love, Rooke PS: No need to thank, this advice is free. Your welcome Seriously though, a change is as good as a holiday. Also the colour meshes well with the new Temporal theme/colours imo, and looks pretty neat.
