It's only Malamasala. His argument features a fair bit of inconsistent logic, so I'd advise against following his thread of thought all the way to its natural conclusion. The natural conclusion being a splitting migraine and a day doped up on painkillers. I have no idea how he can slam Fuwa for being full of people who only like art and don't care about translation quality when later on, in that same thread, he states he only goes for the art and if it has a good story it's a 'pleasant surprise.' In fact, the answer to that question will probably lead to more erratic, convoluted thoughts so forget I asked.

Depends on what kind of repetition you’re talking about. Some repetition in English is good, some is bad, it’s merely a language technique people use. Most language techniques differ from language to language, for example the Japanese use a lot of adjectives, ellipses, and passive voice whereas these things are discouraged in English. The author would use these language techniques in Japanese to create a desired effect in the reader, whereas these same techniques used in English create a completely different effect. And now, like Chrono said, you can choose to provide a similar experience for the English audience that the Japanese audience receives, or to preserve techniques as accurately as possible. The latter is more common in literature than entertainment. Regarding repetition specifically, sometimes in English repetition reads like you’re hammering away at an idea which can be considered disrespectful to an audience, it could showcase a poor vocabulary, and sometimes repetition is just redundant. Poor vocabulary and plenty of redundancies are hallmarks of childish writing in English, so yeah sometimes the two (repetition and juvenile writing) are connected. Why do different techniques mean different things in different languages? Culture and the language’s evolution I suppose. Languages evolving in two completely different regions of the world being influenced by two different cultures and with the languages themselves following two different methods (Japanese relying in part on logograms while English do not, for example) will naturally encourage different properties in writing. It’s just something to be aware of. Editors and authors (in English) talk about cutting repetition from works of fiction on a frequent basis, so there's plenty of people to listen to if you're looking for why.

It's not even a part of feminism, it's just a fairly small minority within the feminism movement have extremist views, it's like decrying all religion because of the extremist nuts or decrying all Alaskans because of Sarah Palin. There actually isn't a branch of feminism that argues for vengeance against men, but I have, for example, been to a University meeting of feminists where some people in the club have been hurt by men and have joined for reasons associated with that. This tends to taint their goals and their perspective, combine this with their general ignorance on the topic and history and you get the sort of 'feminism' that a lot of people are familiar with. Meanwhile in the background, learned people are writing interesting tomes about, for example, language disparity concerning genders and how there are many more insulting terms to put down a woman than a man, but you won't hear about this because a new book has been released by someone who believes if a man touches a woman it's a form of rape (an actual book.) Guess which one gets the media coverage based on what can move the most number of papers/attract the most number of viewers? That being said, you have the other side of the ledger where sexist pigs and people with agendas grab these headline grabbing pieces of work and seek to smear the entire feminism movement with it. These people on the internet are abusive to the point where the public view them as just as bad, or worse, than the extremist feminists. So you have a situation in most of society where rational people will seek to avoid feminism AND everyone who has the words 'social justice warrior' in their vocabulary. Too much bad press.

Mate, I have no idea why you even pay attention to people complaining. People don't like that you advertise? Tough. People don't like what you have to say? Tough. People don't like the way you say things? Tough. A significant number of people on the internet need to learn how to ignore shit they don't like without a piece of software to do it for them. It used to be a valuable skill back in the day. On the other hand they are also free to complain, and whine, and bitch, just as you're free to ignore them. Do as you wish within the rules, you're lucky enough to live in a free country. and let people react how they react *shrugs*

You know, there's nothing wrong with literal translations provided they are accompanied by a shitload of translator notes. If no translation notes (or explanations) are forthcoming, then leaving Japanese words in the script is poor translation philosophy. In fact I'll go one step further, leaving unexplained Japanese words in the script is an incomplete translation. It's why literally translated literature come with 400 odd translator notes in the back, and it's part of the reason why official anime is localised (because it's not a medium that can support such TL notes well.)

A stream are those videos you watch live right? Those videos where once it’s over, you can no longer watch them? I know, I’m a little behind in the technology department, I prefer my quill and paper thank you . The problem with streams is that users aren’t often active when the streamer is active – people sometimes forget, they have to deal with RL stuff, or maybe they’re just sleeping. I’ve never understood why streams are sometimes favoured over a video format that can be watched at the user’s convenience. Because it can often inconvenience the ‘watcher’, to counter this a stream should therefore be engaging, interesting, maybe even informative. Many streams are about really mundane things, though. Podcasts – the problem with podcasts is it’s a less assessable way to get information you can already read up on the forums. That is, a lot of the time important people aren’t being interviewed, there isn’t a roundtable discussion that is engaging or unique. Sanah was correct when he said that forums are there for discussion, but a lot of the podcasts do the same thing, so why would people listen to the podcasts when they can get the information off the forums easier and quicker? A rethink on what podcasts should be based on, and the number of podcasts issued probably needs to happen. You could have a multimedia thingy sidebar sure, but there’s some issues concerning the nature of these activities which should probably be addressed if you’re looking to maximise engagement. There’s nothing wrong with the activities, it’s always the ‘how’ which is important though, so a little more thought and a little less adrenaline imo.

If you compare the Muv Luv and Clannad kickstarters, at this point in their respective campaigns they both had roughly the same number of backers, it's just Muv Luv's backers have pledged so much more dough per person. And this has resulted in Muv Luv's total being roughly double that of Clannad's at around day 4.

It seems a lot of people made that one of their past-times.
