A Showcase of Various Online Visual Novel Communities
NowItsAngeTime replied to NowItsAngeTime's topic in Visual Novel Talk
This romhack dialogue is quite impressive my friend. You should make an updated one for the 2020s -
You could try Meteor World Actor for a strong and skilled MC (though he tends to be too lazy to do it a lot of time but it's part of his character)

Musicus! Discussion Thread [OUT NOW!]
NowItsAngeTime replied to Formlose Gestalt's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I've been excited for this due to liking the Overdrive band VNs and how surprisingly well received it is Japan. Hoping I like it as well. If you want to post thoughts on Musicus as you read, or want to discuss the visual novel in general... feel free to join the Overdrive Discord: https://discord.gg/m8sGK4u We also talk about other Overdrive VNs like Kira Kira, Deardrops, Bokuten, etc but Im sure Musicus will be a big topic for a while due to its Japanese acclaim. -
38 unreleased visual novels, with a million more well on the way

Not in the near future. But now that I've been enough on both the English and Japanese side, I've just been curious what exactly English translated only people (I suppose we'll call em EOPs) want. It seems like we only get to see what some of them want once a 'controversial' TL take is done (stuff like Broski, any MoeNovel TL, or the Fata Morgana tsundere thing) I'm just always interested in thinking of discussion topics, it's just hard to come up with new ones these days.

There can be arguments and/or controversies about how things in certain visual novels. Some localization companies or even fantranslators have their own preferences. 1) Honorifics in general Aka things like -chan, -san, -sama, -kun, -senpai etc. This seems to be one of the more common ones. Do you want them written as is romanized (eg "Michiru-sama")? Or do you want English equivalents (eg Saotome-sensei -> Ms. Saotome)? Or do you want something more localized? Or do you just want them removed entirely? Or does it just depend on the setting or type of VN? 2) Onii-chan This is a more specific question in relation to the above. Some translations prefer just romanizing "Onii-chan". Some will just go with the "Big Bro" or "big brother". More recently we've gotten stuff like "dude" or "broski". Which is your preference? 3) Referring to characters as ___dere in universe Leaving that Fata Morgana controversy aside, occasionally a character will make a joke that another character is a tsundere or the sort. Would you want terms like these left as is? Or would you prefer some kinda of localization that makes fun of the trait without referring to the name in text? Or just have some kind of TL note? 4) Name Order In Japanese, people will refer to full names as "Last Name First Name". In English, we would normally do that as "First Name Last Name". When a character refers to someone as full name, which order would you want? Similarly, if a character refers to a character by their last name would you want them to keep that in the translation? Or would changing it to their first name depending on the character or situation? 5) 仕方がない/Shikatanai OR 仕様がない/Shouganai Whenever a character says it one common way it's translated is as "It can't be helped". However, there are many ways this could be translated, and some translators recently do it different. How would you prefer it? 6) さすが/Sasuga Commonly translated as "As expected of ___". Similarly to Shiktanai/Shouganai, this tends to be translated to something that sounds similar like "This is ___, after all." What do you prefer? 7) Japanese jokes and puns This is something more specific and tends to show up more certain in comedic visual novels. There are jokes that rely on making puns based on Japanese names, or other kinds of words. Would you prefer the jokes to just be told as is with some kind of translation note? Or do you prefer the joke to be changed to some kind of English equivalent?

You vote here: http://grisaia10th.frontwing.jp/vote.html They force you to vote in Grisaia, Phantom Trigger, and Grisaia Chronos but I just put "Other" with N/A text for the latter 2. The last page has a required field you put an e-mail address so you can be entered for an Amazon (JP?) raffle. These are the current results as of March 17:

Try to set an exception/whitelist Dracu-Riot folder in Trend Micro before installing

You're going to have to give more context: Where did you obtain the visual novel? How did you install the visual novel, if you did? What Windows Operating System are you on? What antivirus do you have installed? What system locale are you on? Did you try to apply an English patch?

So I bought Himawari no Kyoukai to Nagai Natsuyasumi: https://vndb.org/v10557 on DMM. I noticed that's only officially supported on Windows XP/Vista/7. I'm trying to run this VN on Windows 10. I can run "BGIForInstalling.exe" just fine, which just installs the game on directory of your choosing (after you put in DMM login). However if I just run regular "BGI.exe" the game doesn't open. No error or anything. The taskbar icon will show for a second at most then just disappear. Has anyone run into this issue? Is there any way to run this on Windows 10? I've tried various things like uninstalling/reinstalling, running in Administrator, setting an Exclusion for folder in Windows Defender, but still nothing. Anyone have ideas?

Help with running Kara No Shoujo: The Second Episode
NowItsAngeTime replied to td_07's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Where did you get the download from? -
Majikoi, but mostly because it was 90% anime original content, 10% from the VN was super rushed, and the characterization was way different so jokes werent as funny. Many 'hated' adaptations like Umineko or Grisaia or Dies Irae I dont mind since at least they still adapted the VNs story, just leaving out a lot of details. They didnt outright change the story or characters themslve.s

So if anyone was curious about the various translation differences between the original Majikoi VN fantranslation and JAST's official translation, I compiled a bunch of notable scenes in the common route with screenshots of the different translations. My observation (based on my limited knowledge of Japanese and listening to the voice acting) is that the fantranslation is a bit more literal, while the JAST translation is a bit more localized. But they're both similar enough, and keep "Last Name First Name" order as well as all honorifics. https://imgur.com/a/xgtjLR7
