  1. Exactly, the statistical methods are useful in translating one word. However since google-translate does a naïve parsing and syntax analysis, it's not accurate for sentences, in short google translate ignores the grammar.
  2. I don't own a mac but test this Download a Japanese font and place it in C:\Windows\Fonts (maybe different location on different Windows versions) in your wine bottle Run regedit in wine add the String value ja_JP on HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment Restart wine and xquartz/xwindow or what you run wine under
  3. 生物(なまもの)= raw food (the same kanji combination can also mean living creature but pronounced せいぶつ)
  4. You can set up a Japanese-wine bottle I guess, how I don't know.
  5. I know but I think that a useful translator or translation tool should know its limits. If a translator can't translate something, he doesn't just improvise rather he would admit that he can't do it. For example mecab and ATLAS don't translate words they don't recognise. My point is, with computer statistic for translations alone you trade accuracy for natural flow, I think we would get much better to results by parsing (I know you have to cut some corners in this step because Japanese is far from LARL parseable ) then lexing and after that applying statistical methods for getting synonyms that match the topic. This wasn't really meant as a serious discussion about google-translate quality (funny-tag), but I'll give this reply nevertheless.
  6. Hello all fuwaners, I thought about starting a thread for collecting epic machine translation fails. Just to show how bad non context aware statistically based translators are. Feel free to contribute an example, comment or just ignore.
  7. Nice to meet you. Welcome to fuwanovel and enjoy your stay!
  8. It wasn't the discomfort that was the big problem, the big problem was to find a way to get it out. The tweezers were to big, my solution was applying the vacuum cleaner to get it out.
  9. I remember one time I cleaned my ears in the morning and the cotton wad on the top of the ear-cleaning stick came off and got stuck in my ear. I live alone and I couldn't see the wad in the mirror, nor could I get it out, then I had to rush for the train so I walked with something in my ear the whole day. Since that I always clean my ears in the afternoon...

  15. Welcome to fuwanovel Did I hear just read lolis? I'm a proud fan of lolis, VNs and the combination. However I mostly read untranslated titles so I guess you have to bear with not getting a loli-VN suggestion from me. Enjoy your stay and discuss about VNs and other Japanese stuff (including lolis).
  16. Welcome to fuwanovel If this is your favourite site, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it here!
  17. 娯楽(ごらく)= entertainment
  18. Welcome to fuwanovel I see you like VNs with many choices, I do to. School Days is about the VN with most choices I know of (including the choice to choice). However many of the new VNs lack number of choices and not obvious ones. I like to earn my good-endings. Enough of me, enjoy your stay here!
  19. Welcome to fuwanovel, here you can talk about VNs as much as you wish!
  20. Nice to meet you, and welcome to fuwanovel ~ The endless (except for fuwapocalypses) site dedicated to VNs and related things *lolis e.g.* ~ Enjoy your stay!
  21. Welcome to fuwanovel Have a touhou loli Rumia wishes the new meal you welcome!
  22. Welcome to fuwanovel, hope you'll enjoy your stay!
  23. I assume you run it under wine under x-window. Macs don't have locales in the same way, and they don't affect the locale of the windows wine-bottle, so you have to configure the wine-bottle to Japanese locale and install necessary fonts.
  24. Welcome to fuwanovel And I see you've already received a loli and a moe, I was too late (I say to myself). Well anyway, enjoy your stay and feel free to contribute to the discussions here on the forum to discuss about VNs, anime, other Japanese stuff (read lolis).
  25. For a longer rant on game culture differences between Japan and US (sorry it has to be focused on one Western country) this can be read. Tl;dr bloody US video games don't make it in Japan, Americans are more sensitive to sexual content in their video games. My conclusion no culture is weirder than the other, I guess you can draw the parallell to H-scenes in VNs.
