SAO started out well, but the later aspects of the story followed a different route than what was promised early on. You don't hear people complaining about Danmachi despite them being so similar, because Danmachi was both up-front about it was from the getgo and executed on it strongly. Personally SAO is good for the first three episodes, then maybe you can watch to 12 if you're interested further. Any more than that though could be perhaps considered a waste.

League and Hearthstone are games of a similar genre that place more emphasis on a smoother learning curve and intuitive design, but they aren't targeting a casual audience by nature (or rather, they make an attempt to appeal to both casual and hardcore players)

Actually, even Rain and Cyr met up IRL at some point. Getting outside every once in a while is actually kind of important. There's some value in it anyway

I'll perhaps be jumping in - though I'm unsure of how exactly the mechanics would be developed and what liberties could be taken for roleplay reasons. It's a metaphor, not actually Madoka. It has similar elements though.

Just be aware that for plot reasons it's a bit darker than what I might be going for otherwise. Shoving fanservice into Madoka doesn't mean it's written by someone other than Urobutcher. Then again though, perhaps you might like that~
