  1. No, there's other stuff that has to happen before a game can be obscene. (That's the Miller Test referenced later in my post.) My point was that those disclaimers are of dubious legal value, and if some prosecutor did decide to go after an h-game (for whatever reason), the "they're all 18" disclaimer probably isn't going to be worth much in court.
  2. I am a giant sucker for monster girls, so Magical Marriage Lunatics is right up my alley. Probably MangaGamer looked at how hot monster girls are right now and decided this game would be a good pick, especially since both of their Moonstone releases have done well. As for Damekoi, I read up on this game in the past, and I believe I saw stuff that indicated she's explicitly underage when the relationship starts but that, if you pay attention to how long passes in-game, nothing actually happens until she's 18? Even if this turns out not to be true, though, it's not the death knell that it might seem. Those legalese disclaimers that "all characters are over the age of 18"? Yeah, they won't offer much protection in the event that some prosecutor decides that Imouto Paradise is obscene. They'll just say "come on, these characters are obviously in high school, so even if the main character is 18, the others are all younger than him, especially Koharu and Hiyori" (the loli twins). If Mangagamer can get away with releasing Sweet Sweat in Summer and Sweet Young Bride, and Jast USA can get away with releasing Littlewitch Romanesque, then MangaGamer can almost certainly get away with releasing DameKoi. All depictions of underage sex aren't illegal. That would outlaw Romeo and Juliet, among many many other things that are clearly protected. Only obscene depictions of sex lack First Amendment protection, and to be child porn, something first has to be obscene. The relevant standard in the US for obscenity is the Miller Test, and it provides: When asked about why Littlewitch was an exception to Jast's longstanding no-lolige policy, Peter's comment was that they decided no one could possibly conclude that Littlewitch would fail this test. I imagine the same could be said for Damekoi.
  3. I just looked all this up cause I got annoyed/curious at how long it was taking. This isn't quite right. The partnership was announced in 2009. But at that time, they only announced 2 titles: Demonbane (which released in 2011), and Jingai Makyou (which was one of two stealth cancelled games). Then in 2011, 5 more Nitroplus games were announced: Saya no Uta (released in 2013), Hanachirasu (released in 2015), Kikokugai (also stealth-cancelled), Sumaga, and Django. And if you look at the progress log there's some juicy tidbits: http://follow.jastusa.com/post/128544859416/progresslog Even though they haven't updated it since last September, you can still see work indeed proceeds on Sumaga. There's no update on Django (that "december" date is "december 2015", and there's no subsequent notes) so who the hell knows what's up with that. But Sumaga definitely is being worked on. Notably, both Sumaga and Django are listed officially on a progress tracker, meaning that there's very little chance one or the other has been stealth cancelled (like the two that got memory holed after being announced).
  4. Technically, G-Collections used to work with them. After G-Collections imploded when their parent company collapsed, and Peter bought up all the rights, Jast USA licensed a bunch more titles from those licensors. But all the Angel Smile games were released by G-Collections back when they were still independent. In fact, Figures of Happiness was actually their very last release. They kinda sorta just went dark after it launched. I am disappointed in the "next 6 months" announcements from Jast. All the games that have been waiting around for years aren't in it. Trample on Schatten, and the remaining two NitroPlus titles ... nothing. The NitroPlus titles were announced in 2011, and Trample on Schatten in 2012. Can anyone who was at their panel say if they addressed these games at all?
  5. Hah. So they did in fact manage to censor a game when there wasn't even anything to censor. Yet. I was afraid they might pull this stunt.
  6. We're also getting damekoi: http://www.mangagamer.org/damekoi/ I dunno who found this, but hey, I've been interested in damekoi for awhile. Hell, I was interested in it when Jast posted a "which of these should we license?" poll (which included the game) ... and then didn't license any of them!
  7. Announcement 2: Evenicle from Alicesoft. Not a surprise, since people on the livestream chat had sent out a link to MG's website for the game before the announcement: http://www.mangagamer.org/evenicle/
  8. I can't believe nobody mentioned these already: Persona 3/4/5 Trails in the Sky FC/SC
  9. Has it been confirmed that they're going to charge money for the patch yet? I have been following their Kickstarter announcements and haven't heard anything one way or the other. But even if so, that would still be off topic for this thread (which is about their TL quality). I was only talking about the translation fiasco.
  10. Inept antics. There is a pretty significant difference between inept and shady, and Mikandi hasn't gone anywhere near shady. (Their translators sure seem to, but not they themselves.)
  11. Sheesh. Two and a half months later. Ick ick ick. Well, I'm out from under the Giant Heap of RPGs. I beat Torment: Tides of Numenera, gave up on Mass Effect: Andromeda, beat Persona 5, and then beat Trails in the Sky The Third. (Whew!) Around the time I resurfaced for air, Darklord Rooke's computer crashed. He's had to spend time rebuilding it and reassembling his files. This means that it's not 100% clear where progress is on the project right now (since he wasn't around for awhile). I'll sync up with him hopefully sometime in the near future and update this thread again. I'm not dead! I feel happy!
  12. A friend of mine and I were talking about shows based off VNs and whatnot, and he thought that we needed a new disease that all these sad sick girls could have. Obviously they don't have anything like what the shows say they have, right? So we should find something more appropriate. I thought for a minute, and suggested Tourette's Syndrome.
  13. Tsukihime (by the creators of F/SN) is also pretty good. I'll also recommend Steins;Gate. I would also be recommending Soul Link, except that it's a bit late to be buying a copy since Navel's new management has no clue what they're doing.
  14. For me, it's significantly worse than IMHHW. I entirely wrote off MoeNovel; I hoped they crashed and burned, because I didn't like their philosophy towards "adapting" games, and I didn't want it to be successful and spread. I can't find it within me to be angry at MiKandi. I've written off Libra itself as not worth trying to struggle through, but I can't help but root for people who put as much care as MiKandi themselves obviously did into this project (I mean, everything they did but the translation was great). The likely total failure of Libra makes me sad.
  15. The final day spikes are usually comparable in size to the day one spike. The day one spike was twenty-four K. The low totals over the last 2 days is moderately concerning, but we should still be fine. Worst comes to worst, they'll probably count BackerKit money towards the fandisc, which will get the last little bit of the way there even if it doesn't quite make it.
  16. It depends what you mean. I've seen some projects (like Dies Irae and the Dark Souls Board Game) where you put add-ons in your original pledge by increasing your pledge over the pledge level. Those count (I mean, thery kind of have to). I've also been involved in projects where you could add add-ons on BackerKit and pay more after the end of the Kickstarter. In such cases, I think the money usually does get applied towards stretch goals, but there's no guarantee of that happening. However in this case, I wouldn't worry. There's only the one stretch goal, and we're just shy of 13K away from it with 11 days left. I don't think we'll have a problem, given that it's growing 8 to 9 hundred bucks a day, and the late-campaign spurt that always happens.
  17. I'm surprised nobody remarked on the more interesting part of the announcement - not only will there be a 100% free Steam patch, not only has Valve has okayed it, but they're going to do this going forward as much as they can.
  18. Don't worry. We'll get there. We only need twenty grand, and the Kickstarter is still pulling in about a thousand dollars a day. Include a push at the end, or when some other Kickstarter gives us a shout-out, and we'll make it.
  19. PSA: If you are a Kickstarter backer, and did not get an email from BackerKit saying your stuff is available, then just go find your BackerKit link - assuming you answered the survey, you should be able to go to collect your digital rewards and get your keys.
  20. @LemiusK You might want to spoiler your first post. Those are some pretty big Steins;Gate spoilers.
  21. I am quite sure some of those are not, in fact, real. So no, it isn't. (Why would Winged Cloud want to screw up a good thing by getting nailed with a trademark infringement lawsuit over Sakura is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? And Sakura Garbage Day? I sure hope they'd have more sense than to ever name a game that
  22. Which is the point I was making. And yes, I consider Corona Blossom to have good art. Maybe not as good as Nekopara, but I definitely would put them in the same league. So why is Nekopara successful where Corona Blossom is not? Well, Corona Blossom might have good art, but it does absolutely nothing worth reading with it.
  23. Persona 5 is being judged harshly because Persona 3 and Persona 4's translations were masterpieces. Persona 5's is very far from being a masterpiece. In fact, not insignificant parts of it are not even acceptable. When Atlus released Persona 3 and Persona 4, it created expectations. If Persona 5 had not followed these two games, I would expect less of it. But it did. Persona 5 gets flak from me for not being perfect because it is a Persona game, and Atlus already knows how to do perfect. I would react the same way to a subpar Trails of Cold Steel 3 translation. I expect crappy work from NISA; that's why I don't often buy their titles. They don't do the games they work on justice. I don't expect crappy work from Atlus. But okay, it seems like comparing this to P5 isn't fair to P5. The only thing these games have in common is that they disappoint me
  24. The first rule about Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club. Anyway, to answer your question, Yuka from Crescendo sounds very close to what you're looking for.
  25. Stein's Gate is basically one giant railroad through the whole story. At certain points in the story, Okarin will be about to make a major change to the timeline, but you will have the option to make the call, or not. One of the choices will lead to one of the character endings. The two main endings are, well, the identities of the characters involved are technically a spoiler, so I'll just say this: When the train is pulling into the station, which one you're closer to (based on who you have / haven't been messaging and how nice / nasty you've been) will determine which of the two normal endings you see. The true ending basically requires a walkthrough. I have no idea how people figured it out initially. It involves
