  1. Modified top banner to make it clear: all media must be in spoiler tags. If you repeatedly ignore this, you'll lose FuwaChat access.
  2. Fixed links and auto-caps. The text size is kinda relative. Speak up if you want it larger (not sure how that would be done, but I'll look into it), but atm that's not a high priority.
  3. FuwaChat is live. FuwaChat Incoming!

FuwaChat is about to go live. Please prepare for the worst, as these things tend to trigger Fuwapocalypses. Chat mods include: All global mods (blanket permission) Clephas SolidBatman Nohman Aniki Ceris GetterEmperor Kurisu-Chan Grieviious I have no idea how moderation works, but I do know these guys can ban you... so be careful! 5. It's on a list of things to fix on the front page. Still working on some back-end stuff to make it a reality. I apologize that it's taking longer than I anticipated!
  6. This board (the "Coliseum") is the home for threads that are fun, chattery*, don't have to have much substance to them, or are meant as jokes. Examples of threads that go here: Games that don’t require a lot of effort (high post rate, low effort) Jokes (super inside jokes, outright jokes) Threads which have been derailed into oblivion Random chat topics: any topic that has no particular topic or its topic is to talk about a random thing that is not really a topic Spam (joke or filler) or fluff posts Threads about stuff. Like, literally stuff. (*cough* rice *cough*) Topics with very specific weak topic: any topic that focuses on a very specific single instance or very specific single incident Superficial groups or clubs Note: Non-superficial groups can still be made in the coliseum or request to be moved there (why would you want to do that? Well, because in the minigame groups/clubs/guilds can fight (and kill) other groups/clubs/guilds) * "Chattery" is not a word. But it should be. Because I like it and I'm going to use it anyway.
  7. Would love as much info as you can provide!
  8. Hey folks, It's about time to launch the FuwaChat experiment. If you're interested in being one of the FuwaChat moderators, please step forward by commenting in this thread. By volunteering you agree to defend (with your life) the following commandments: Don't be a jerk. Respect and civility are still our #1 rule. No porn, no hentai Be excellent to each other and party like it's 1999 If you're cool with enforcing these rules, please step forward. This is an experiment, mind you, and things are bound to change, but this is the most basic jumping off point. Current moderators are welcome to do this, too, but you aren't required to do so.
  9. Many moons ago I asked a very simple question: would changing my avatar (in any fashion) disrupt the fabric of the community and/or space-time continuum? At that time the answer was "yes". Overwhelmingly so. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my avatar has not changed since I joined the site in 2012. Or maybe it's because my avatar is lucky and grants wishes to its followers. Regardless of the reason, the people had spoken, and my avatar remained unchanged for another year (or so). The holidays are once again upon us, and once again I'm tempted to add a santa hat to my avatar. This thread's selections, specifically, have caught my eye. I'd like to once again ask the community: how would you feel about me changing my avatar? How strongly do you feel about that opinion? Would you feel differently if, for example, if I combined all 15 santa hats into some glorious Santa-hat-stravaganza and crowned my extant avatar with it? Thank you for your time and input. Happy Birthday!

  11. Hey everybody, It's time to talk about FuwaChat. I'm interested in hearing your (yes, you!) thoughts about it. At least for now I see FuwaChat as an experiment. Like most recent changes, we as a community will revisit this in a few weeks to assess its efficacy I've been getting a lot of reports that spam and derailing chatter are decreasing thanks to moderation. That kind of interaction isn't ever going to go away, though, so I'm interested to see if FuwaChat can fill that need On some level it's also intended as a bridge until I can get all our ducks in a row and do that whole 'lounge*' overhaul I realize it could also be a horrible decision : P Before making a move on this, does anybody want to speak up, share their thoughts, or offer suggestions for implementation? * Lounge ™ by Rooke Corporation International
  12. Reposted from: http://visualnovelaer.fuwanovel.net/2014/12/blog-changes-new-look-new-editor/ Hello everybody, If you’re reading this on the web (as opposed to the email notification you get with each post), you’ll no doubt have noticed that the blog has undergone a radical makeover! We’re trying out this new look and would love to get feedback/impressions from those of you who regularly read our content. And while the cosmetic changes are long-overdue, they’re only a small piece of the blog overhaul, and I’m pleased to give you a little insight into what’s changed. First and foremost, I would like to announce that Zakamutt has been chosen to become the official editor-in-chief over the blog. Many of you know that he has been carrying the torch for the past many months (his TL updates and project recruitment posts have been extremely popular and useful to the VN community, and his articles have made for excellent reading), but what you might not know is that in that time he’s also developed a gut feeling and vision for how to carry the blog forward. He’s a talented writer and he’s got a lot of good ideas, and I’d like to congratulate him and wish him good luck. There are several additional and substantial changes coming to the blog. I’ll endeavor to highlight a few: The blog is going to be rebranded into the “Fuwanovel Gazette”. There will be a subdomain change in the coming days (don’t worry, the old subdomain will forward you to the right place) to follow the new name, but that’s not at the top of our priorities atm A big, new focus is the variety of categories on the blog (News, Project Updates, Project Recruitment, New Releases, Fuwanovel Community, Recognition, with other categories such as “reviews” soon to follow). The categories are important because we plan on opening the blog to a much wider range of people. Project managers on TL teams, for example, will be able to directly write their own status updates/requests for new team members. Fuwanovel community members will be able to directly write up notices and updates for when new podcasts are released or community events are planned (such as when we need to party like it’s 1999). One really important and exciting change will be the implementation of a recognition program wherein we try to better highlight the awesome and interesting people, projects and discussions going on in our community and within the VN world Zaka will be sharing more information soon about how people can participate on the blog. For now, however, if anybody’s interested in writing a post (we’re interested in writers doing lots of different kinds of pieces, such as posts on translation, OELVNs, tutorials, Otome/BL, news, reviews, analysis or broader opinion pieces), keep an eye on the blog feed and the forums for more information The FuwaReviews team will be partially implemented into the blog in the coming weeks. More info about this will be coming soon Thanks again for sticking with us and keeping up with the blog. I look forward to feedback, and I look forward to Zaka continuing to impress us ; P. All the best, Tay
  13. Thanks for reporting the registration issue and your thoughts about color theory : ). That's an old question, anyway, and needs to be replaced. Much appreciated. I'm aware of the software issues and am working to fix them.
  14. Hype AND a custom video. You are very good at what you do, sir.
  15. Exactly what I did. Thank goodness for backups. @Ceris -- working for you now?
  16. Looking for feedback -- is this resolved (as of 1 minute ago) for anybody? (Testing) Tall thin image: Wide Image: I'll get it fixed, Ren.
  17. I don't have the slightest clue what happened, guys. I'm looking into it. For now I think it's fair to suspect one of the following occurred: foul play, sabotage, Fuwapocalypse, NSA hacking. There's no way user error could have been involved here...
  18. I agree that it's not in our interests to allow licensed links in the D&R board. The board moderators will be notified shortly about this clarified policy. Thanks to everyone for addressing this quickly.
  19. (Coming in super late, but yet still timely since Ren's trip is rapidly approaching!) Yay! Good luck, Ren -- it's finally here! (Finally your work so that you can work to prepare to relax is paying off!)
  20. Hey everybody, So the first group of Board Moderators (BMs) have been selected and recruited. It's a fairly big group: total BMs will likely total between 15-17 persons. I know that some people are concerned with that number (I had 8 PMs about it when I woke up, for example, and more continue to trickle in), so I thought I'd take a second and give the community a better picture of what BMs do. The BM program has evolved quite a bit since I posted that call for interested parties. Here's a better idea of how it works: What Hasn't Changed: BMs still commit to 4 weeks of service doing up to 60 minutes of moderating per week Board moderators still work in teams under a global moderator (teams range in size from 3-5 BMs) Teams of BMs are assigned to one of the sections of the forums (VN Discussion, Development Boards, Community Hub, Other Discussion) and work exclusively in that section (AKA: Fuwanovel did not just gain 15 global mods) Global mods are still the only ones mediating and deciding respect violations (plus potential appeals to me) What has Changed: The work you think of when you thinkof the word "moderating" (what I call "clerical" work, or more namely: moving/merging threads, dealing with double posts, changing titles, etc.) is now just a small part of what they do with their moderating time BMs are now tasked with keeping tabs of people, projects and threads which deserve recognition in their section of the forums (AKA: lots more eyes across the board looking for people and things that deserve recognition). This will be a key part of the upcoming recognition system changes The other key function of BMs is that they are given the responsibility to actively brainstorm (as a team) ways to improve their section of the forums and the community. While the improvement section is good (and will still be available), it was not utilized as much as I wanted it to be. Having dedicated brainstorming teams for each forum section will amount to huge increases in focused brainpower, especially in sections like the Development Board which have a lot of potential but which need a lot of innovation The global mod team leaders have quite a bit of autonomy to train and lead their teams. If you take issue with how a forum is moderated, you can speak to the relevant global mod team leader directly as opposed to me, directly Many of the PMs I received were concerned about moderating inexperience (which is valid!). I think we need to own that experience has to come from somewhere; and with a handbook and a global moderator's oversight, I think this is a good way to start out Just a few more points to make: Every time I've added a moderator in the past, I've received lots of PMs filled with concern over anarchy- or (conversely) police-state- mentalities. Just to be clear: BMs have clear direction in their handbook that they should prioritize communication when taking moderation actions on the forums and that they should not see themselves as secret police, censors, or agents of Tay's secret agenda. Furthermore, one of the chief tasks of the global mod team leaders is to make sure none of the BMs starts to gravitate to the dark side. Should you be concerned with a BM's actions, you can talk to their global mod directly (just as how you can contact me directly if you take issue with a global mod's actions). This next point is really important: While I have a lot of reasons for experimenting with a large initial wave of BMs, like with all upcoming site changes, I consider this an experiment which will be closely monitored and re-evaluated in a few weeks. If it doesn't work, it'll be modified or scrapped. When my monitoring period is over, I will open a thread in the improvements board and encourage everybody to weigh in on their impressions on how well this does/doesn't work. Like I said last month: I can't be afraid to make mistakes as I try out new ideas in order to find what works -- especially if those mistakes are only temporary (a few weeks) and easily reversed. In a different vein of thought (and at the risk of repeating myself and/or beating a dead bathorse): the distribution of BMs was intended to mirror the workload and/or need for innovation for each section. Speaking frankly: when I need help on the site, it's often quite difficult to find willing volunteers. The upcoming weeks will likely be the most busy (and full of projects) time we've seen in more than a year, and so it follows quite logically that it's in our best interest to have volunteers at hand to make the changes happen. I hope that this helps clarify the program's launch and the thought behind it. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, voice concerns, or speak your mind in this topic, and I'll try to make time to respond. 21. That's Nayleen for you. He even buses in style. Good luck!
  22. Just FYI -- Want to say thanks for all the PMs about moving the game FAQs/tech support boards to the VN Talk category. Until the back-end migration is done, I'm probably going to hold off any further forums moves. Every time I do that the forums software has to do a lot of caching and processing, and I don't want to put further strain on the ole' girl. Also -- Yes, I realize the community hub is locked against starting new topics. This'll be changed soon, but I have to get a few things done, first.
