That's a good expression of the crux of this thread: it all depends on why one plays a VN. Personally, I love the interactivity and incorporation of audio, visual and reading to present a story. I also love the medium's ability to have significant slice-of-life elements (which isn't practical or interesting in most mediums). Yet, I'm also a romantic at heart. I love love stories, especially slice-of-life love stories. The romance is really important (as it often reminds me of great memories with my now-wife). Despite liking the romance, however, I don't like the sex scenes. The h-content is usually awkwardly done, sexist in varying degrees, and comes of as fanservice of the worst sort, usually playing exclusively to male power fantasies. Not to mention grossly exaggerated anatomy.

The World God Only Knows is awesome. Elsie is the first character I've ever encountered to make me giggle and moe/cute-overdose in a Konata-like way (Luck Star). Lovin' it! (Also reading Love Hina, but getting close to finishing it and I don't want it to end... So, yeah, limiting myself to one a week)

(Please excuse the double post, just wanted to alert to an update) My FTP isn't working at the moment, but once it's fixed I should be able to take care of this once and for all. I've tried to fix this twice in months past, so it isn't a new issue to me. Once my FTP is back up, I'll make the changes and we can all sleep better, knowing Fuwa is taking one step closer to being OCD-friendly : ).

Technology is pretty neat. I have separate installs on my desktop and laptop, but use dropbox to sync saves. A hassle to set up, but effective!

Hey Everybody! Today marks the beginning of my Fuwanovel-inspired Sims 3 story. As started in this thread, our story will feature three main characters: Kendjin (name submitted by Kendjin) (very original, pal) Rooke (name submitted by Tay in Rooke's honor) Akrasia (name submitted by Shinobu) Let's get started, shall we? Step 1 - Creating a Household The way this work is simple: I will generate the sims randomly (appearance, clothes, and personality). For each sim, I get three "re-dos" in case I think it'll turn out too wacky. Or in case I don't like something. This is all done by clicking a "randomize" button. First character up: Kendjin Next Up: Rooke Last up: Akrasia Awesome! What a great group! As far as their inter-relationships, I'm going to make them all non-family. So that things are unbiased at the start. Next up: Where will they live... ? (Continued in next post! Coming later tonight!)

The rules for the game setup center on randomness. The first question: how many main characters will we have? The options: 2, 3 or 4. I will use Random.org’s True Random Generator to make these choices. Decision 01: How Many Main Characters? It's just one of those things. From the moment I saw the screenshot of Imouto no Katachi on the "Funny Visal Novel Screenshots" thread (specifically this post by Famichip), I felt a connection. It's just one of those games I have to play at some point in my life... Not sure why. (Personally uploaded, so not hotlinked)

Announcing FuwaSims - Fuwanovel's First Sims 3 Story Come one, come all -- this is the chance of a lifetime, the chance you've been waiting for! I am about to produce a short Sims 3 story, and I'm looking for volunteers to put their names onto the characters! If you're interested in naming (or putting your own name) on a character, let me know via response! How the Game/Story Works: I will generate a few Sims randomly using the randomize buttons and play with as much of a hands-off approach as is possible. Any interaction on my end will occur only if it's agreeing with a sim's current desires, needs. Where this'll go, nobody knows! Well, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. I haven't had any problems yet with the codec packs on the four systems I use to test Fuwa games, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Thanks, Aggressor.

Sure, that does happen. But things like the K-Lite or the CCCP codec packs generally have fantastic compatibility track records. Sadly, I don't' know much about Haali Media Splitter or FFDshow.

These are often called "OELVNs" (Original English Language Visual Novels), and you'll find a bundle by googling that term. The biggest collection of OELVNs on the net can be found using the Lemmasoft forums or on http://games.renpy.org/. These are all homemade VNs of varying quality (Katawa Shoujo is among their ranks), but some are commercial grade. Then you have things like Love Sniper which are cooky but fun. EDIT: Since this thread is asking for links and info, not actual downloads, I am going to move it to the VN Discussion board. I'll send the topic author the new link.
