Fiddle-senpai, I will go OT, but I've just wanted to say that taking this Analogue quote out of context is just the best thing. So many possibilities... ----------- Sorry for dilluting you thread, Anabelle-sama.

Confession: Embracing my inner weebness, I've recently started using this app as my alarm clock, mostly due to the Japanese voice recognition function - I'm just starting with my Japanese, so talking to it is a decent way to train simple phrases and listening comprehension. And it's still less embarrassing than talking to actual people. Still, the levels of creepiness I've found in the app were a bit over my expectations. Why does she say she'll be with me always? Where's Kirito? Why doesn't she respond when I mention him? Did she do something to him? I'm confused. And scared. ;p EDIT: Although, one positive surprise was also there: she sais ワルシャワ、ポーランド in a way that makes me wonder if they actually recorded that phrase, or just did a great job with combining the syllables to service irrelevant countries such as mine...

I've finished Go! Go! Nippon! yesterday, I'm probably going to play through the whole Nekopara series now (all-ages edition). I've grabbed it on a Steam sale for very little money, I think it would creep the hell out of me as porn (I can't fight of the feeling that the premise is pretty much sexual slavery...), but in the cut version it should work fairly well as a relaxing cuteness-fodder. That's the kind of thing I like to watch/read when I'm depressed or under a lot of stress - now I've got a cold, so I hope it'll let me turn my brain off and smile towards the screen like a moron. ;p By the way, coming back to Go! Go! Nippon!... Do people seriously like that game? I guess it has it's charm, but when I see it praised in serious ways and getting a 4-star review on Fuwa... Just WTF? Wasn't the actual storytelling in it like the most cringy, trope-ridden thing out there? And that protagonist...

A very descriptive greeting you gave there. ^^ Pleased to meet you! Don't hesitate to share a few details on what brought you here and what kinds of VNs you enjoy.

lets talk about incest. :mare emote:
Plk_Lesiak replied to mitchhamilton's topic in General Discussion
Incest is not my "fetish" in any way, but I find it a good material for all kinds of "forbidden love" storylines and those, when well written, can have a lot of charm (as I've mentioned a few times before, I can be hopelessly romantic). Obviously in many games it's done to attract people with taboo porn and incest is simply the strongest, most universal sexual taboo out there. It's just like in "real" porn industry, you have brother/sister, father/daughter (etc.) themed videos all over Pornhub. But when done seriously, I think it can be an interesting story premise and because it's already an established trope in manga and anime, VN developers don't have many reasons to avoid using it. Also, as usually VNs doesn't force into romance routes, it's not even that risky to include incest when it goes to reception by the readers - people that don't like it will just avoid it. Also, in more general terms of incest as a social taboo, I had a long discussion about it lately, in this thread: -
Is there a visual novel where grades are essential to the story?
Plk_Lesiak replied to Spookaloo's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Gaokao Love 100 Days is not precisely about grades, but it's main goal is both to get a girlfriend and not fail the after-high-school exam that will more or less determine your future. It has only two heroines, but a huge amount of endings depending how you do on each front. But like people have said already, everything that put an emphasis on grades will most likely be considered a "dating sim". Not a genre divide I would really care about, but I guess people like to stress it because of how many absolute-shit dating sims there are. -
Tayutama 2 -You're the Only One- on Steam
Plk_Lesiak replied to Veshurik's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Ugh, that's one thin-skinned "company". I'm a bit new here, but so far I get this vibe that the nieche of localizing JP games is somehow filled with con-artists and morons like few other sectors in the industry... -
Thread necromancy is an ancient and noble art indeed. :3 The first VN I've ever played was Analogue: A Hate Story, it grabbed me in a huge way and probably very much influenced my perspective on the genre (with how much I like smaller, western made ones and stuff...). Although I've started reading VNs consistently much later. The first Japanese one, years after that, was Flowers -Le Volume sur Printemps-. I pretty much instantly fell in love with it and it definitely cemented my taste for yuri. But even more than that, I still consider it the prettiest game I've ever played. I hope the other three parts get their English releases soon. In a few years I should get my Japanese to the level good enough to read the originals, but I don't want to wait that long. :'(

You shouldn't fight it. Not that we care about you being on the forums... Baka!
-
Welcome to Fuwa, young one! If you ever share more details about the VN you're creating I'm sure some poeple would have some advice for you. Also there are some threads about VN development in the Creative Corner. Also, I hope you won't be traumatized by the numerous eroge/nukige discussions around here. I'm not sure if we want to be known for corrupting the youth, people already think enough bad things about us. ;p

Can a guy be a fujoshi? I think that's a contradiction in terms.

Sure, But I hope someone's going to clean up this subforum after it's over. That is, if there are any admins alive out here. ;p I guess that means pointless d****uckery after all?

Did people get hacked in here or is it just some random, collective outburst of pointless d*****ckery?

I don't know what in the actual f**** is happening to the Members' Lounge right now, but I still have an announcement of sorts. I've written first two reviews for the blog, so next Friday, 1st of December, I'll start posting stuff. I'll do it on weekly basis (always on Fridays) whenever I have enough material and once every two weeks whenever I'm hopelessly busy or out of ideas. Actually, writing those two pieces consumed two full evenings from me somehow, I need some time to actually read VNs too. Also, as I go with strictly spoiler-free approach, my blog could've been named "Plk_Lesiak's Obnoxiously Vague Reviews", but in the end I've went with even more questionable "Pride of the West". Actual content coming soonTM.

Hah, I'm starting with my western VN blog next week, maybe we can both weird everyone out in our own unique ways. I would read it for sure though, I don't have enough time to fit much Otome/BL in my schedule right now, but I'm curious enough to follow a blog like that. PS Sorry for going OT on your thread KoaMoa-sama. I beg for your forgiveness. *bows deeply*

A peaceful revolution is always an option. Don't give up the fight so easily, both of You. Getting that part of the VN community more active here would be fun.
-
Hello there! Otome and BL are probably the less popular nieche around here, but I hope you'll find the forums fun regardless.
-
I'm just starting Go! Go! Nippon!, bought it today on the newest Steam sale along with the DLCs. I have a rare free day tomorrow so I think I'm going to read through most of it. It's an important part of the history of VNs in the West, no matter how shameful. When I'm done with that, I have A Kiss For The Petals - Remembering How We Met next in my queue. I really want to know when that English release of Maidens of Michael is coming out. I WANT IT NOW.
-
My Yuri-RadarTM is always active and always vigilant. Shared your campaing on the HellaYuri group on Steam, hope it helps.
-
Ah, what would western yuri fans do without precious developers like You? We would starve to death for sure! There's barely anything good translated into English for us. Welcome to Fuwa, can't wait to learn more about your project.

I'm sorry, I don't think this is going anywhere. Most moral conflicts of today, such as gay rights, drug laws etc. center around a liberal understanding of individualism, that is personal freedom of choice and pursue of happiness, coupled with respecting the same freedom of others. This idea of individualism is struggling against a conservative notions of tradition, established moral order, religion etc. The form of individualism you've described, the one I would call libertinism or moral nihilism is an absolutely marginal factor here. The main arguement for gay rights, gay marriage is not "we just want it", but "we need this to fulfill ourselves, to live our lives with the same hapiness and dignity as others". And it's at its core a collective issue, because it's about the ability to not just take these moral stances ("I'm gay, I want to marry a person of the same sex"), but to act on them within the social and institutional order we live in (being able to actually marry that person or at least be in a relashionship with him/her without facing discrimination) - after all, a human being without a collective of some sort is just an animal. This does not mean that every such claim is credible and should be accepted, because there is the fundamental barrier of the good of other free individuals - not some collective interests per se, but personal autonomy of every citizen that has to be protected. That's why pedophilia (or rather - child rape) cannot be accepted, it will always be predatory behavior that infringes on the best interest and safety of the child. With animals, even of they are not moral creatures, it doesn't mean they should be necessarily excluded from moral limitations on the part of humans - if they're aware, feeling creatures there's a good reason to think we shouldn't abuse our power over them. I really don't see any good arguement against this stance, apart from questionable sense of evolutional superiority. On the bestiality, yeah, it might be somewhat complicated. And surely in most cases isn't worse than what's happening daily on pretty much every animal farm out there. This still doesn't mean it's not morally questionable - I'm pretty sure than an average goat or horse would choose not being fucked by it's owner if that was a possibility. -

Really, this might be the first time I've seen anyone trying to sell such Nietzschean/de Sadian nihilism as "individualism". Even if we set a dychotomy where this kind of egomaniacal freedom is "individualism" and every sustainable ethical system, no matter how minimal, is "collectivistic", it will be completely useless for the discussion at hand. Because for acceptance of incest or LGBT+ interests this kind of fringe stance is not in any way necessary. It's also nowhere close to being an agenda of most progressive groups or a dominating trend in society IMO. Probably it is, from a moral point of view? Most of the animals we eat have personality, can feel pain etc. There's a reason we outlaw animal abuse, bestiality in most cases is simply considered one form of it. So, it's not something easily defendable on the grounds of personal freedom. Whether eating meat is, I will not judge, I don't claim to be a moral person anyways... -

I think that's a misrepresentation of what individualism would mean in this content - what you described is a pretty extreme version of moral nihilism (a'la that in de Sade's writing). For individualism to work as any kind of ethical/ideological stance you must accept one basic principle - that the limit to your freedom is the good of another person. So you should be free to reject any kind of moral and intellectual stances that the collective tries to force on you, but can't use that freedom to hurt others. Pedophilia and bestiality are not defendable on the grounds of individualism, because a child or an animal cannot consent to sex and can be expected to suffer from that kind of action. Gay sex or an incestous relationship between consenting adults, in most cases, is absolutely justified from this perspective, because its an expression of freedom and intent of those involved and fundamentally shouldn't be a concern for anyone not directly affected by it.
