  1. Though, I would suggest we might create a similar separate thread for those of us who play untranslated, setting the cycles at three months rather than one, since even a moege can take many something like a fifty to a hundred hours when they read it in Japanese (people like me who can read one in ten to twelve hours are rare, to say the least). Edit: Choose a single untranslated VN, linguistic difficulty between 4-7 out of ten, with broad appeal or by an established company that has followers in the community, and have everyone read it at the same time. I don't think it would be hard to gather seven or eight people to read an untranslated VN in here together...
  2. Now now... anyone who has played Eushully's other games knows Kamidori and Himegari are at the bottom of the list for story...
  3. Translated VNs I'm willing to replay/play: I/O FSN (not really, but I haven't played it in Japanese yet, so it is tempting...) Sharin no Kuni Grisaia no Kajitsu Ayakashibito (though it'll be my fourth time through it) Rose Guns Days (only if you can find me a download of the full version, lol) Phenomeno
  4. *Clephas smiles gently, even as he drops several tentacles in the room with the loli and closes the door* Welcome to Fuwa.
  5. Ayakashibito.
  6. I could play I/O in Japanese while you guys play it in English... want to race to see who gets done first? *Clephas smiles*
  7. One problem though... even with translated, what people have and haven't read is going to be pretty disparate. The ones who have been around a while will have read practically everything and the ones who haven't will probably have only read a few major names like Grisaia or FSN... I dunno about the rest of you, but reading a VN all the way through more than twice is actively painful for me...
  8. *Clephas munches on some of his Grieviious-jerky*
  9. I'd join for untranslated... if it is translated, probably not, lol.
  10. Ayakashibito is my suggestion.
  11. I've got Inquisition pre-ordered for PC... though I may switch it to ps4.
  12. Ore no Tsure wa Hitodenashi (osananajimi marriage ending, but it is untranslated) All of the Mecha-con games (untranslated as well)
  13. Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no Hello, Lady (if you haven't already played it) Hapymaher (my VN of the Year, 2013) Nanairo Reincarnation (the prime candidate for VN of the Year 2014) Bradyon Veda (because Hello, Lady wasn't enough Akatsuki Works for you) Tokyo Babel (because I haven't yet heard you played it...)
  14. WLO (untranslated) comes to mind...
  15. Mmm... more likely it is a parallel project. I'd support this, because it seems interesting... unfortunately, my entertainment budget for the next three months is completely tied up in replacing certain unfortunately damaged items...
  16. I'm... surprised. Usually, it is the destiny of doujin games like this one to be forgotten entirely, for the most part.
  17. Ayakashibito. Edit: Hoshimemo, Shinikiss, Tsukihime. Since 99.9% of VNs contain romance, your request is somewhat unspecific. Edit2: I can add a lot more if you can read untranslated, lol.
  18. The Record of Lodoss War OVA, released in the early nineties, was one of the last anime to be completely hand-drawn (there are arguments about which can be said to be the absolute last). By 1995, computer input was present in virtually all anime.
  19. Eroge is a larger term encompassing all games with erotic content. Nukige are games that are focused on their erotic content. It is a nukige.
  20. Of course, Kagome is the best osananajimi of all time. She is what an osananajimi should be.
  21. Pros of the osananajimi: 1-established relationship with the protagonist 2-frequently has a great everyday dynamic with the protagonist Cons of the osananajimi 1-established relationship with the protagonist 2-actual story is almost always a 'but we are childhood friends, I'm not sure if I can see you as a potential lover' plot 3-osananajimi stories tend to be weaker, reliant on pre-existing relationships and distant past promises... 4-osananajimi heroines fall into two different types... the devoted or the tsundere. The former is boring and the latter is a fault in and of itself, lol. Kagome from Comyu is an exception. Edit: Sorry, but the osananajimi, in my experience, is always used as a 'throwaway path', with less effective character development, excessive ichaicha (think two thirds of the path being dates, ecchi, romantic events, and 'oh god I think I love him/her' worrying on both sides...), and half-hearted efforts at making a real heroine story.
  22. While I'm naming the candidates for the October releases, I figured I would revisit the purpose of this thread. This thread was made, ultimately, as a place for me to give people a general idea of what to expect going into the games released in a particular month. As such, I consciously over-utilize VN and otaku terminology, and in most cases, the actual comments don't constitute a true review. Also, I inevitably focus on the narrative aspects of the game, unless the music, VAs, or visuals are either extremely high or low quality. This is because VNs are ultimately a vehicle for narrative, the system of adding a visual aspect (tachie, CGs) and an auditory aspect (music, voice-acting) is ultimately meant to enhance the narrative, rather than define it (yes, this is my opinion, and I'm deliberately ignoring nukige, since they aren't the subject of this thread in general). As such, I tend to focus on how enjoyable that narrative is to me or who it would be enjoyable to, even if it is not to my tastes. This is my primary reason for playing so many charage/moege despite the fact that they are far outside my normal range of tastes. The fact that I play so many of them is mostly my idea of VN community service, though I do enjoy the excavation of the occasional true masterpiece buried amongst the mediocrity. So what am I trying to say? Essentially, I'm trying to say that the general reason I avoid spoilers inasmuch as it is possible without failing to inform the reader, is because the mini-reviews here are meant to inform other Japanese-reading VN-addicts choices. To be blunt, the sheer volume of VN releases out there makes picking and choosing a pain in the rear. I remember how annoying it was filtering through dozens of kusoge to find a single likely gem when I first started... and frankly, I don't want to inflict the same suffering on others. I avoid the spoilers as much as possible because my focus is ultimately narrative, rather than the overall focus seen in traditional reviews... this is also why I tend to call them comments or mini-reviews, rather than acknowledging them as true reviews. List of October Candidates http://vndb.org/v14523 http://vndb.org/r32814 http://vndb.org/v14924 http://vndb.org/r34151 Because Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming out in mid-November, I don't know how much I'll have to work, university is getting busy, and because I'm just not all that interested in it, Koiharu Adolescence will probably get put into my random vn thread whenever I choose to play it. I seriously doubt I'll have time to play many extras in November or December, so my apologies in advance.
  23. It helps if you understand that mahou shoujo exist to be tentacle raped, as was established with some of the first h-manga to come to the US. This is graphic, do not open unless you don't mind a rather disturbing glimpse into one of the Japanese's more... disturbing habits. Edit: Yeah, sorry... I know. It probably says something about me that the first thing that occurs to me when someone says 'mahou shoujo' is 'tentacle rape'... but I've played a LOT of eroge. Edit2: In my opinion, there is no such thing as a 'good' non-comedy mahou shoujo anime, ther than Madoka. They are the worst example of overuse of cliches there is in anime, other than sentai-anime (which is basically power rangers anime, under different names).
  24. *Clephas looks ingenuous* It's Italian.
