This could be more than your typical moege; there's a lot of potential, considering it's somehow based on the hitorical facts. But japanese showed plenty of times before they aren't able to grasp anything well these days. I bet anime will become quite popular regardless whether it will be good, or bad; I seriously can't think of it becoming anything decent, more than just an excuse to shove in a bunch of cute mecha musume and strip them off their clothes in a rather spectacular way, much to crowd's delight.

Have you tried running it in admin mode? A lot of visual novels, especially older ones do not work properly, if not run with administrative rights.

I couldn't bother myself to go through all the hassle just to play some japanese browser game. I find the Kancolle phenomenon quite amusing - even though the game has such a huge community, it is barely profitable to Kadokawa, out of various "silly" reasons which typically shows the modern japanese inability to grasp good money. If we're already at it, I find Shimikaze, Amatsukaze, Iku and Kongou quite adorable. There's too many gals to chose from, though. You can as well make your own harem. Kancolle itself could actually make a preety good visual novel with srpg/tactial elements, if done well.

Contrary to what some people may think of, they are a complete niche, even in it's own country of origin. Even though vn's make rougly ~70% of the games made in Japan, they are still something most people do not know about. You can be sure, that if you ask someone on a bus or train in Japan outside Akihibara what vn's are, they won't know and with a good reason. Only certain titles, like Clannad, Kanon, Higurashi or F/SN have become more widely known, mainly due to the size of the franchise they spawned, but it still does not make the genre more known. VN's are mainly played by young people, of which a very large portion belongs to the manga/anime fandom; It's also one of the main reasons why vn market became horribly oversaturated within last few years, having negative impact on vn's itself. Most people try to avoid saying they play vn's/eroge out in the open, out of obvious reasons. It is still considered weird/creepy by the rest of "normal" populace and Japan is also an incredibly homophobic nation when it comes to things like these. It became better in the past few years, but hardcore vn fans are still considered to be weird, creepy "geeks", who spend most of their time in their curtain-covered rooms/basements, propably remaining NEET's without a love interest, nor life. It applies both to guys, and gals. Yes, gals. OreImo is actually a preety decent example in that case, with the slight exception that Kirino actually leads a decent life and hides her hobby from her family and any other "official" circles (it's called being a "closet pervert" in Japan).

August's 'Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai' getting an anime adaption
Narcosis replied to Kanbe's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Everything nowadays is moe to a bigger or lesser extent. Even stories like the one in Eustia, which should normally leave a depressive impact on players, do not cause that anymore, mainly because certain things are moefied, while they shouldn't. I'd love to see an adaptation of Eustia, but I doubt it will ever happen. The only things that still sell in Japan are high-school centered comedies/drama. -
If My Heart Had Wings- Missing content? (SOLVED)
Narcosis replied to monkeysrumble's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
Didn't the restoration patch actually sported additional content from the japanese limited edition or something? I haven't read Konosora yet, but I remember there was a lot of crap concerning the official "downgraded" english TL. Japanese version had extra scenes which included erotic content and/or partial nudity, that were edited out from the official TL, besides the h-scenes, which were also taken out. -

Meh. I already got sick of moege. Might take a look if the art and animation are going to be worth it. -
Hey there. Enjoy your stay and watch out for rampant lolis.

I ate them once or two in my entire life. I could eat them more often, cause I like mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, ingridients are quite pricey around here so I had to get used to living without them. ; ^;

Good looking art Visual Novel Recomendation
Narcosis replied to Kei_Shirogan's topic in Recommendations
OP, of course. Using different fonts is useless and makes the post look confusing (and bad). As for the Little Busters, Decay is right. Key's art is completely mediocre and I'd even say that some of their older titles like Clannad, or Kanon had a lot more consistent and better looking art style in overall, than their new titles. LB is most certainly their best period in terms of art, Rewrite graphics (although higher res and theoretically more detailed), look a lot more bland and inconsistent in terms of the flow, which makes it a pain to look at in certain moments. If you'd like a game from LittleWitch, I'd rather recommend Quartett!, than Period; Quartett is not only newer, it's simply better, both in terms of captivating story and gorgeous art. -
Good looking art Visual Novel Recomendation

Please use the standard font/size. A lot of visual novels have decent graphics. It depends on personal taste, since vn's sport different kinds of art styles. From the last few games I've seen, Grisaia seems preety impressive (that's how highest quality art looks in eroge nowadays). You might give it a try, especially if you're a newcomer to vn's (though, I'd recommend other, lighter titles to start with, if that's the case). Hoshizora no Memoria has really nice graphics as well and is a decent title for begginers; Both are 18+ titles, though. There are all-ages titles available as well, like Steins;Gate, or If My Heart Had Wings for example. In overall, I'd recommend going to the archive and checking the titles yourself. You should find something that picks your interest. -
oelvn project Lucid9 (available for free on Steam)
Narcosis replied to Diamon's topic in Original Projects
Another "Katawa Shoujo", eh? I can only wish you luck and hope you will be as determined within the next two years as much as you are now. 95% of such projects end it's life abruptly within the first few months at most, without reaching anywhere beyond a game vision with a bunch of mockups. This looks like an idea for a very average visual novel at most, to be honest; can't you come up with something more interesting and original, rather than going through a road of least resistance and copypasting a trite stencil of an average japanese moege? You all propably read a bunch of them already, you should know what works and what doesn't, especially over here. The premise itself seems trivial and completely silly, doesn't make any logical sense either; don't create your story around the characters. Reality doesn't work like that and there's a ton of reasons why japanese high school settings make boring and trivial stories, barely anyone would be interested with. You propably would like your work to reach a wider audience than just a bunch of weeaboos from these forums, wouldn't you? Naked flash is a really bad choice for a visual novel type of software; it is ridiculously slow, inneficient and you will have to write a whole working vn engine from scratch; despite vn's looking "easy", they aren't simple to program. There are plenty of reasons why Ren'Py and GameMaker would make a lot better choices for an engine. No one really likes reading vn's in a browser either, so it won't be any sort of a solid point to cling onto with flash. Ren'Py is incredibly easy to pick and does not need any special knowledge for basic visual novel mechanics. You also have technical support from the creator himself, all you have to do is hop onto the Ren'Py IRC and talk with Pytom, he's very helpful. You will see how bad flash is, once you will write a substructure and come into first technical issues; even if you will manage to solve them, it won't get any easier afterwards. Be sure to organise yourselves well and try to treat this project as something more than just a spare time hobby and completely amateur production with low quality value; in a longer run, it may pay off and even if you won't finish it, you might gain some experience or knowledge. This might get really useful, if you plan to get into game design in your future. -
I didn't saw the date and just went with the flow, haha. Admins should close such threads after a while, since they don't make much sense later on.

Getting a visual novel to work [Paca Plus]
Narcosis replied to VNoob's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
Don't forget to run it with administrator rights. Doing otherwise limits application processes. -
Because reading is fun. To be honest, I'm not reading that much anymore, though. I made a complete break from the visual novel genre in terms of reading/playing them and decided to go back only a while ago. I have a huge backlog now, but once I finish a bunch of things left, I will definately read them all. I'm actually quite happy to see so many new decent titles TL'ed, considering at the time when I left there was barely anything left for me to read. As for the rest, most of modern games are shit and mmorpg's are a complete waste of time and nothing else.

A lot of visual novels are built upon classic anime stereotypes. It's not because writers can't come up with something else, it's because that is what a typical japanese vn consumer wants/gets used to expect.

Would be fun to see more decent h-scenes with characters passing out with joy. Another annoying issue with eroge, is the sole fact, that one of the characters is almost always either treated as a reward, or a victim, not as a real partner in sex. This plagues basically the whole visual novel storywriting and isn't limited to eroge. I've only seen a couple of visual novels where partners stand on equal terms, no matter their characteristics (specific story elements aside; it's obviously not meant to happen, when sex is a result of rape). This is also one of the reasons h-scenes in most eroge tend to be ridiculously unrealistic, dull and/or hilarious; because writers do not consider their characters and sex scenes turn more into a drag, rather than an integral part of the storyline with a meaning and character development.

Learn basic japanese. There are no workarounds. -
Realistic sex scene based on mutual relations? In my eroge? IMPOSSIBRU
-
I see what you did there. One of the most hillarious things, which actually always make me laugh during most h-scenes is the fact that most male protagonists are born machos with dicks wider than their arms, capable of gushing out incredible ammounts of semen, to the point that some of the more "intelligent" eroge actually turn that into self-induced jokes. The biggest joke though is that whole legions of japanese otaku are basically taking their sex education out of it. Not sure whether to laugh, or cry.
