Le Baguette Debate - Can you write a good story out of a Nukige?
Narcosis replied to Kurisu-Chan's topic in Visual Novel Talk
A story-based game won't really ever focus on 'porn' as porn by definition isn't sacrum, nor even middle of the road. Granted, you can deal with topics that dwelve deeper into the sexual side of human nature and it obviously requires writing about it, but those are a rarity; themes of prostitution, love triangles, love conquests etc. they'd all require a lot more erotic content to cover the topic; only a handlful of writers would be really capable to write something, that doesn't actually focus on the porn aspects, while still talking about sex. -
Can somebody explain to me why is this bad [tracing]
Narcosis replied to Nekolover's topic in General Discussion
Good artists work with references; people need to understand copyright is deluded; creative work is all about nothing else but taking handfuls of inspiration from everything around you, including other people and their work. Whole drama regarding Yuu quickly got out of hand, mainly because of NGNL's popularity. I guess that's the kind of price you pay for a success and the more successful you are, the more careful you need to be; a lot of people, including other artists, who are envious would love to see you fall from grace. Everything else is subjective. -
Le Baguette Debate - Can you write a good story out of a Nukige?
Narcosis replied to Kurisu-Chan's topic in Visual Novel Talk
A nukige is still a nukige, regardless whether it has plot or not; we're so used to pidgeonholing vn's by their traits, we're usually ignoring the simplest point - whether it was made mainly for faps, or does it actually tell a story? One could argue most games have a beginning, middle and the end which makes it a story from that perspective, but each story has it's merit as well. If something is written as a lousy excuse to shuffle in more h-content, it's a nukige; if 75% of the story and plot are h-scenes, it's a nukige. It does not matter the remaining 25% might be fantastic writing, it doesn't make the game instantly into 'eroge with a lot of sex'. It's a nukige. Not saying there aren't good games which have a lot more h-content than your standard 18+ vn, but the main point of a nukige isn't really to tell the 'reader' a good story -

I'm here for the fun... and lulz, but mostly fun -
This whole talk is more about pushing beyond those boundaries, no matter what. OP is right, tho - majority of japanese companies can file an official C&D, but it's more than often where it ends at; they usually don't have that kind of money to pursue international lawsuits, or they feel it's not really worth it, as they could pump cash into a new project instead wasting it on petty squabbles. From my perspective, for those who do know at least a bit of english, it might be a lot more foreesable to actually hire a professional EN/JP TL and reach the translators/group to actually initiate official translations, rather than diss fans; in overall, when someone actually hands you work you could actually use to your benefit, it's incredibly ridiculous to outright refuse; those who do, definitely don't know how to handle business opportunities.

Things happen on their own accord.

Well, at least it's over now; hopefully, not temporarily.

I'm tired of this bullshit. Seems like people nowadays have nothing better to do than constantly kindle conflicts.

They don't make anime like this anymore. I know the colorful art above doesn't fit the song, so here's the original cover from the japanese version: This particular fragment was used in what was propably one of the best episodes in the entire series. If you haven't seen Ulysses 31 yet, I'd highly recommend watching it; it's a cult classic sci-fi/space opera based on Homer's epic poem.

Looks like Live2D, feels like Live2D... but I guess it isn't; neither E-Mote. Care to elaborate on animations and game engine? If this is supposed to be an informative topic, rather than a plain advertisment, you should try to describe the game a bit more. Copypasting a vague premise and few character descriptions doesn't really tell that much about the whole project itself; what are you trying to achieve? Are you looking for help? Do you want to spread the word? Generate hype? A couple questions from me: Considering nature of the game, are you planning to include adult content? If so, we should expect a patch available off Steam? Is this going to be a classic visual novel, or an actual dating sim, including gameplay in form of character and time schedule management? How big of a role will animations play within the game? Any ideas on final pricing and business model? Hopefully you're not planning periodic releases in form of story chapters? Any actual studio/game website, Kickstarter page or anything else, that holds more information? Not really my kind of game, but who knows... if humor will prove to be 'intelectually' entertaining, I might end up checking it out I have a feeling Izumi's knockers might result in protagonist's gruesome death through suffocation. PS. Athletic gals usually have much smaller chests, due to many different reasons

How hard is it to buy downloadable VNs from Japanese sites?
Narcosis replied to shadowolf64's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Very easy, when you know what to do. -
You should be fine in case of Germany and most southern and mid/east-european countries, which tend to have a lot less stricter (or no) law regulations when it comes to pornography/obscene content in general. If I remember correctly, Germany tends to be a lot stricter in terms of excessive violence, rather than erotic content. That said, there's more or less no difference between countries, when it comes to fictional child pornography; you either have it completely illegal, illegal regardless whether real or not, illegal if 'real enough', or not monitored and that doesn't necesarilly mean you're free to import it without risk. You simply have a lot less of a chance, someone will actually bother to consider it 'illegal', when it's just a drawn pic of Rika with cat ears and tail, undressed and lying on bedsheets in a rather dubious pose .

ExtractData might often work on the new archives due to similiarities in structure/archiving format, but remains deprecated and you risk running into issues or extraction errors. As Deep Blue already mentioned, I'd advise to try out AE instead.

Do you play visual novels with or without voice acting?
Narcosis replied to ratboi's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I don't mind good voice acting (it's actually helpful for learning japanese and at times, grasping things better in general), but I won't cry when they aren't voiced. Certain games can benefit a lot from good VA as much as there are titles, which will do perfectly fine without them; worst thing to happen is getting voice-overs, where it isn't really required (ENG dubs; murica, why?). -
