  1. "Gamers are over", I'm laughing so hard.

  2. Well, that guy just dumped the whole DB, along with file mirroring (lol). If you want to be sure whether your personal information got compromised, you better download it and do a quick search with Notepad++ or any other editor of your choice. I'm not going to post links here, you can easily find it on the net.
  3. Apparently, it seems Mangagamer did a lousy job on net security. Luckily for me, I wasn't even registered cause I never bought anything from them.
  4. Apparently, @MangaGamer got hacked and someone responsible for this is tweeting about it and all the moral justice.

  5. RT @TomGrochowiak: @HiddenRefuge We're still doing homebrew stuff. Which is precisely why we haven't starved yet. ;)

  6. Visual novels have two important factors - storyline (aka writing) and visuals. You can't completely ditch art in visual novels, as it's an irreplaceable part that makes them the genre they are. That said, there are games with worse and better graphics; art in overall only serves as an addition to the text and that shouldn't be forgotten, but impressive graphics might make a game a lot more enjoyable on so many levels. Hahaha, NO. Resolution does not save bad art.
  7. Welcome back and see you soon :>
  8. I kept on timing bad during the long slider phase, but it's finally FC'ed. Not sure why, but new cards tempted me into two single draws. Got another smile Nico and pure Hanayo rares, which made it the worst idea ever. I should have keep all the stones and spend them on the event instead. _-_
  9. You need to know a variety of different programming languages, be able to reverse engineer a program, have wide knowledge about game design and visual novel developers - their tools of trade and any engines, that are available on the market. It often involves breaking through different types of file encryption and various protection mechanisms, unpacking the game's archives or even tearing apart whole engines in order to make a bunch of changes within the code.
  10. It doesn't really matter if you're a guy or a gal, as long as you create good games.

  11. That's where social media like Tumblr/Twitter/FB come in handy. Actually, fuck FB but Twitter is a must.

  12. Suddenly everyone has a lot more titles to share than in any other recommendation threads.
  13. Define "good" graphics. Is it the overall quality, resolution or hardware limitations? It's really hard to tell. For a lot of people, modern games like Bishoujo Mangekyou, Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete, Supipara or Both Qualia are what they consider high quality art. Will it mean older games like YU-NO, Kakyuusei, Mugen Houyou or even Sayonara wo Oshiete will be considered far worse in terms of graphics? A lot of people actually won't be even able to make the comparison. They will state old games have bad art and whole discussion will end, while a lot of older enthusiasts, including myself are clear it's impossible to even compare NEC graphics with modern high resolution art, which sports millions of colors. I still hold the overall graphics from PC-88/98 in high regard, since artists had to abide by tremendous limitations and yet managed to deliver such crisp and good looking art. On the other hand, it's not just a matter of art, but more a matter of boobs dressed up in good art for the game to sell, even despite it might have little to no actual story (vide Sakura Spirit). That's the actual issue. A lot of people thinks LB is the holy grail of the japanese vn industry, while the game itself (although quite decent) does not offer anything unusual except your standard Key fare. I can easily bet my waifu LB wouldn't be even half as popular, if not for the Kud. And that's another major issue, especially with western visual novel fans. One, which makes me dislike most of the western community a lot.
  14. https://t.co/lsLCLYGyJN If that's the kind of stuff indie devs want to "aspire to", then indie games are definately doomed (and so are we).
  15. LB is the evil of this world. The faster people forget about it, the better for whole humanity.
  16. At times I want to strangle all the programmers who write systems we work on.

  17. Those were fake, so it doesn't count. But shit's glamor, mind you.
  18. Used visual novels are a huge issue in Japan; they are one of the reasons why studios make little to almost no money from their games, which has impact on their overall quality. Theoretically, they should make reselling games illegal, since it's basically almost no different from pirating; actually a lot of western TOS state that an originally bought game cannot be resold, copied or distributed in any other way without legal consent of their respective creators. It's a grey zone, though. That's why people do it. Most of them forget though, that when they buy a used game, they aren't supporting the developers. A viable solution would be to create some sort of a system, that enables shops to sell used games, as long as a part of the revenue still goes to the creators, but you can propably imagine how troublesome and hard to mantain it would be. No surprise publishing platforms like Steam became so popular nowadays - there's no point in getting used games, when you can get originals so cheap and get a free support along with a whole digital library you can access from nearly anywhere you are.
  19. Big eyebrows are the epitome of awesome, especially on female characters. Shocking truth!
  20. And all of them are based on high school settings. How surprised I am. Unfortunately, most anime adaptations are very poor and serve as nothing more than advertisments for the games they spawned from; especially those based in high school settings. They most propably won't any any different from the rest, therefore I'm not giving them any hope.
  21. You literally forget that Clannad had more or less a finished TL (it was badly done, but still something to start from) and Planetarian had a great TL made by Insani. Licensing those two titles was only a matter of time; since even before SP got funded, guys who formed it stated plenty of times, that if anything KEY gets ever released on the west, it will most definately be Clannad and Planetarian. Now you have it. It's a nice accomplishment, but don't even think about resting on your laurels. If anything, this is just the beggining and any communities involved in visual novels will have a lot to do from now on. SP isn't any different from Jast or MG - their only difference lies in the fact they are less restricted in terms of licensing games, but they follow the same rule that applies to any publisher, as in either bringing the most profitable titles out, or publishing games that require little to no work. The good side is they are constantly improving and looking for community feedback. I guess that's our main task - share knowledge and guide our western publishers, so they can release good and profitable titles on the west. The more profitable this business becomes, the more chances are the japanese studios open their doors and start looking forward to partnerships with western publishers.
  22. 64bits or not, my MC still managed to run out of memory. Twilight Forest mod surely takes a lot of space. I could use another 4GB's.

  23. I haven't even started yet. I did a bunch of event lives and besides that, I'm just collecting stones and points. I will propably grind later to get into top two thousand players; at the moment, I kinda lost interest to amass stones for 10+1, it's more profitable to get around 10-20 stones and use them up for the event, it should ensure top thousand in most cases. In the end you get an idolized SR, two additional tickets, alpaca and a bunch of additional stones from various sources, including the new normal card; it's definately more profitable. I cry everytime it happens.
  24. I finished both Amnesia games a while ago and went to check out Borderlands 2 on Steam, since they put it for free this weekend. I was actually looking for something to test my new system, since I moved from XP few days ago, tho I'm already tempted to get it permanently; I really liked the first game and second seems like a great sequel. Aside from that, I went back to Minecraft with 64bits. Back then I could play anything besides vanilla MC (which is horribly bland and boring) and lightly modded clients. Currently I'm playing on the biggest modpack from the FTB (Monster), and the game didn't crashed even once. I'm really glad, since modded Minecraft is something entirely different and Monster has definately a lot to offer.
