I have a confession... I don't think I am truly a fan. I was really happy when my roommate said I was a fangirl, and for a while that is how I've seen myself, but today it occurred to me that I don't think it's true. On the outside I may seem very willing to be a fan of someone and root for them and send them my love or whatever (blushes), but I think that at a deeper level I just want people to like me. I think my natural tendency to be very forward with my good feelings towards people masks a tragic desire for people to feel about me like I feel about them. And now I'm unsure if I want to wait and see if I'm appreciated like I want to be or if I should deny my desires and focus on giving, because I've gotten more than I deserve already. I think I need to be more dedicated to people on the internet. I hope you're okay, taco. regardless of what I've said above, I'm rooting for you, okay? You go beat the world up and be fantastic!

It occurred to me a year or two back that I'll never actually be the best at anything, and it was then that I realized the value in trying to embrace your personal uniqueness. Because that's the only thing that I alone can do. Though I've never been one to emphasize being number one. I'm happy with being number four or whatever so long as I can find satisfaction and pride in myself. Confession: a lot of the time I think I am too complacent

Before Katawa Shoujo I had never read a VN. Nor did I really know too much about them, but I had never associated them with porn or anything. I believe the first I had heard of them was my brother bashing some ps3 pseudo-vn for being called a 'game' when it wasn't really about the gameplay (he gets bothered over the silliest things sometimes). All the time I'll be reading a thread such as the MG and SP 2014 bestsellers thread and people will often say things like this: (This is just one example among many, I don't mean to call anyone out.) I'm not actually convinced of this. I don't get why people often talk about how unmarketed and niche VNs are (in the west) and then jump straight to assuming that of course everyone sees vns as porn. All of my exposure to vns happened through things like word of mouth, which told me of the really good stuff out there. My friends do not come to me and tell me what their favorite nukige is. My personal experiences with VNs as well as my brother's and friends' don't to align with this mystical concept of 'outsiders' that I hear of all the time. But I'm interested. What did you think of VNs at first? Considering you're a member here that may be biased, so maybe you could ask your friends or family members what they think of VNs and report it here? I will, at least. I think it'd be valuable to get a more concrete image of what VNs are to outsiders without all the supposition.
