As long as it isn't required and the random battle system isn't used anymore I'm good. Take for example a game like kamidori it hasn't felt that grindy for me except in a couple instances where I was short on material but replaying levels to get 100% is fine. They also had a deadbeat dungeon you can use to level up under levelled characters so I think got the formula mostly right.

Visual novels have been around for a long time and while there haven't been giant leaps and bounds in gameplay for this type of game the technology has still improved. Western releases have been sparse so I wouldn't be surprised if people listed mostly Japanese games but are there any old great games you think deserve a remake?

Are the routes that different or does that just change the cutscenes? I got held up on a chapter because I had to make 3 of two key items instead one 1 each. Can't remember their names right now

Now this takes me back but what are some more current games that would be similar to an old game called "season of Sakura" that people would like to recommend. Also has anything ever come out with an English translation that is close to the game true love? -
Did you make sure you levelled up your base completely?

Quick reference on which ones are 18+ or all ages would be a nice touch instead of having to look them up on their respective pages -
I once got stopped on the street by some random Japanese guy who was trying to get me to agree with him that Japan was bad/evil. A real weirdo and basically had to walk away from his ranting ass. There are some self hating Japanese out there but this guy was a bit much

Grinding RPGs isn't so bad if you multitask. I can watch tv or listen to music wile diving through the item world in disgaea for example. Revealing plot points within opening videos is another one of mine. I normally don't watch an opening video until I'm well into the game so I don't spoil something.

Yes trains are pretty silent for the most part. The one person who is speaking loudly on their sidelong death glances from the other passengers and they figure they must be from Osaka

Excessive reuse of bgm. One thing I noticed in kamidori is every h scene is set to the same music so as soon as that music starts I know a scene is about to start.

Vndb is a good resource for info on vn which may be a good place to start for some. Though the sheer amount of titles and tags can be a bit to sift through. -
I lived in Japan for a year in Tokyo. Great experience but sometimes you really do get the isolated feeling since my Japanese was weak. I was teaching English there with a company called NOVA before it ran into trouble and collapsed. It wasn't the best job but it was a way in. I really miss being able to go grab Melon bread and some tonkatsu curry on my lunch.

Very difficult to put this list together: - chrono trigger - fallout 3/new Vegas (yes they are two games but difficult to keep apart) - the legend of Zelda oot - Mario 3 - grim fandango So many titles still I could swap many of these games for so I don't know if these are a true top 5 -
I think the worst one I played was called Amy's fantasies

I'm pretty surprised soul link made the list even if it is right near the bottom. The game was pretty lacklustre in my eyes. I see omissions of games that bridge genres so my guess this is intentional? -
Yeah I'm not that big on bad ends especially if it is a long path after you've made a choice to discover 10 choices ago you will get stuck with a bad end. I kind of like a somewhat forgiving set of choices for routes where since finding the one exact combination to trigger can be a pain if there are lots of choices and makes me just end up using a guide which takes some of the fun out of it.

Animes and manga that you wish to be produced as a VN?

Its an oldie but the Saber marionette j series could easily work -
One that really stands out is the vampire. So many different cultures have there take on this creature and the folklore has endured over the years (albeit twisted). Just as long as they don't sparkle.
