Please don't take this the wrong way, but this doesn't really surprise me. VN/anime/manga fans (some of us included) don't like paying for Japanese goods to begin with, so doing this sort of practice is absolutely expected. People pirate these kinds of things all the time (stream shit, torrent games, scan manga), and I feel companies should realize this before even offering any kind of service. Bad apples ruin it, but let's be honest, 90% of people don't want to pay for shit on the internet.

That requires work, and why would you want to hire translators when you can just take a fan translation and tweak it slightly?

One of the biggest misconceptions with licensing a game is that people believe that just because a company snags a title from a well known company (i.e. = Front Wing, Key), they instantly have rights to all the other titles made by said group. That's false.

I want to see an English team work on something completely new from popular companies (i.e. = Irotoridori, not HNM). Moege drives the VN market in Japan as of the past 4-5 years, and Princess E. is a step in the right direction, but in all honesty is the only high quality, length driven moege that has ever been released from all 3 major localization companies since they started. Even if you don't like the genre, seeing games from AAA companies in the VN industry that already had fan translation associated with them bothers me. People always say how the English teams get rights to certain AAA companies games (i.e. = Favorite, Front Wing), but do you ever see them translating something new when that happens? Nope.

I don't watch these events. If anyone would be so kind as to tell me if anything happens. I am merely just keeping an eye on my email and project from my end.

Agi (the guy who worked on Narcissu) knows Kio Nachi personally and invited him as a guest. Kio was hired on as a freelance worker for Aokana, and therefore probably has no rights for determining if the game can even be localized since it's on sprite to make that decision. If something were to happen, I'd let you know. Astro is keeping me posted if he is able.

HOGs have a ton of sprites/story elements with choices. Most HOGs also have the puzzle elements to them as well.

Honestly, I feel we get a lot of these types of questions on Fuwanovel and in general. The one thing I see people mentioning is that the person in question being exposed to the genre of visual novels has had no experience from it whatsoever. In all honesty, I feel people need to be worked into this kind of genre, and so instead of exposing everyone to Japanese novels (moege, otome, etc.), I feel they should start with games that have visual novel elements in them. For example, instead of straight out throwing someone into a game that structures itself with a lot of anime art and sexual content, start small. Recommend a game that uses sprites and text (i.e. = a hidden object game), and if they enjoy it, expose them further into the genre. Don't know, just a thought.
