"You know you're addicted to Fuwanovel when..." VNs are interactive (read text, go to next line..., make choices), but in some ways, so is a book (turn the page...). There are choose-your-adventure books which is similar too, but without the multimedia. If a VN only has pictures and text, no audio or video, no choices, then it's more like a (illustrated) book. If it has many choices, audio, and video, then it becomes more of a game. It's not black and white, it's a spectrum.

If it's over a local network, it might be easier and faster to FTP or HTTP (or even netcat...) directly between the two machines. As for the drivers the latest for the 82865G are from Intel, version 14.17, from 2007, for XP and Vista only. There is no Windows 7 driver for this device so there's no acceleration --- it's using a default generic VESA driver probably. Perhaps the hardware is fine, but you need to have XP to get this working.

Video overlay. You won't be able to get a screenshot of it. (You might be able to disable them via dxdiag, or if you have multiple monitors, drag the window so it straddles two --- that causes it to revert to software rendering and so you can then take a screenshot.)

http://key.visualarts.gr.jp/rewrite/product01.html According to the official website you need DX9, but whether that's referring to "version 9 of the graphics libraries" or "DX9 support in hardware" is not clear... and if your hardware is not sufficient it should raise a messagebox with an error message, instead of dying silently. Anyone who has a VM and this game can try running there and see if its behaviour is also a silent fail, or if it does complain, or if it runs(!)

Have not worked with this one before but if comma-aversion is because its an internal record separator (e.g. native CSV) then it might support escapes; otherwise swap it with an unused character...

You can try updating the GPU driver in the device manager. Right-click the device and choose "Update Driver..."
