  1. DSII actually has a pretty damn good story to tell about futility, which is hidden in the lore which is actually more obscure than DS1's but actually amazing when you watch someone dig up all the info. The problem is that it falls into the common trap of making you understand futility and despair by (deliberately?) lead you to not give a shit about the world and characters whatsoever
  2. SotFS probably IS worse in several areas, but I don't think vanilla DS2 could fix my real problems with it. I doubt SotFS ruined the lore. I doubt SotFS ruined the art style. I doubt SotFS made it so that only, like, two NPCs are worth giving two shits about. I doubt SotFS ditched the overlapping world of DS1. I am more disappointed in the lore, atmosphere and the general design & feel of the game as opposed to the gankfests (which are still maddening of course).
  3. Been playing DSII (SotFS) since like July here. It's such a fucking drag, but I can't drop it when the DLC areas are noticeably better than the main game and I have invested 94 hours into it and am in the last DLC already. Frozen Eleum Loyce and Brume Tower from the DLCs are especially great areas but still not near DS1.
  4. this game called "Haramase Simulator" being developed in /d/ (the part of 4chan where the phrase "shitting dick nipples" originates from, which should tell you enough of its purpose) and its story goes something like this: After Donald Trump causes the world to go into nuclear war, most men are conscripted and sent to battle. Then, a virus that targets the Y chromosome is released, and these two drastically reduce the male population worldwide to less than a hundredth. So, in Japan, the exceedingly few men left are given licenses to impregnate any woman they wish, by law.
  5. Hang in there <3
  6. It's called selfcest and it exists as a fetish As for incest, a fetish is fetish and given how popular it is in porn, I'd wager many people woylf be OK with it actually (not necessarily themselves, but between consenting adults)
  7. Pretty much done with Dark Souls II except the last DLC (+the final boss). The game is really underwhelming overall, especially with regards to atmosphere and level design, but checking out some lore videos, there still is a worthwhile story in there just told in a really flawed way.
  8. Just about every major aspect of my life is crumbling down. Academics, friendships, health (not too severe but still), hobbies... I just want this year to end already...
  9. I can relate to this immensely. I'm in the middle of college applications, as well as a whole other bunch of shit (personal hygiene issues, best friend no longer talks to me and it's my fault, forgot some important belongings at school and I have to spend much of tomorrow running around to find those) so I have no time to be surfing the web either.
  10. I want to read this thesis holy shit
  11. That's probably how every well-adjusted, normal, not-fucked-up person is thinking. *eye twitch*
  12. Malwarebytes, usually, and McAfee (but I don't know if that even counts because I don't delete it only because I can't be bothered to). AdwCleaner for times I really fuck up. Haven't encountered anything these cannot solve, not yet at least The greatest antivirus is still common sense. That said, I don't really value my personal information as well, either. Too many people out there, and I still fucked up with regards to that years ago so now it doesn't matter if I'm conscious of it or not, my privacy is practically gone.
  13. This sounds like it just aped FFX lol Edit: By the way, I finished Metal Gear Solid 3 yesterday. I don't feel that it's one of the all-time greats, but the whole game was certainly unique and the ending was a-ma-zing, goddamn.
  14. Done. As for your spoiler tag,
  15. The point I wanted to make isn't even necessarily about "dispelling"- sex is either for the titillation of the audience or to redeem/console the heroine. Very few VNs attach any other meaning to sex.
  16. To be perfectly honest, that didn't impress me in the slightest when I read the VN, because
  17. You see, most VNs that do include sex scenes do not need any. The "B-b-but they make the stories REALISTIC!~" argument is simply bullshit. Practically no visual novel story is "realistic" in any sense of the word. Going by moege (since the "it's realistic!" argument is often used for cutesy romance VNs), they're all practically wish fulfillment. Hanging out with a student club, or a committee, or just a bunch of girls sorted or introduced to the protagonist otherwise does not magically make all of them fall in love with you. They're contrived stories. Any defense of sex scenes in such VNs (especially considering how so many of them feature high schoolers) is simply not in the name of realism, it's at best because their audience cannot conceive of a romantic relationship without (usually unsafe and underaged) sex. Furthermore, I'd find it insulting to any medium to insinuate that they need to use sex scenes to establish the audience's investment in characters so comically trite and overdone that many characters, let alone relationships, can be described with a single fucking word. Sex scenes in eroge (broadly speaking) are not necessary to establish a believable relationship because the relationships to be established are often just as superficial as the characters and disputed h-scenes in question. The scenes themselves are also so fucking generic that I could spit out 50 different lines and you wouldn't get which VN I pulled them all from. Just about every single one works out the same. I can respect someone saying that they self-insert as the protagonist, see the heroine(s) have sex, or otherwise want sex scenes in story-heavy VNs (e.g. not nukige) in a self-gratifying fashion, that's fine. But the argument that explicit, drawn out, numerous sex scenes that never serve to meaningfully develop, evolve or deepen a relationship somehow add to the narrative value of a visual novel is absolute bullshit. I don't think I can recall a single case where an explicitly written out consensual sex scene (rape/assault is often used for characterization/shock value, and isn't what we're talking about here) meaningfully develops a duo's relationship in a VN. Which is not to say that I'll be crusading against every slice of life VN with sex scenes, but don't act like the average sex scene in the current VN industry is meant to add to characterization, narrative, or plot development. It's there to fucking sell, and for the audience to enjoy.
  18. Wow, someone's actually been stalling OoT even longer than I have I really don't like OoT, just don't find it interesting in practically any way. Playing Dark Souls II: SotFS. Currently it's the #3 game I've spent the most time on (some 150+ hours in Terraria followed by 115+ on Persona 5), but it's long since stopped being delightful. Don't know if I'm even enjoying it or hating it, but I'll definitely finish it. Currently done with all the main game content, and doing the DLCs. Did the Crown of the Sunken King DLC, and while the level design was decent I hated the Dragon Sanctum. Currently doing the Iron King DLC, which means I'm currently in the Brume Tower, which might be one of my favorite areas alongside Majula, Dragon Shrine and Heide's Tower of Flame. The verticality is great and even though the path to the third bonfire is pretty linear it really opens up afterwards. DSII's level design, lighting, and movement/animations/feedback/"feel" just don't come close to DS1, which I now adore. Lore is nowhere as interesting as Lordran's, either. Boss design is generic as hell. The game looked fucking amazing before release with the old lighting engine. The new engine just makes everything look dull, which kind of might be the point, but it only makes the game itself feel dull and forgettable.
  19. Completed Persona 5. 116.5 hours. I don't have a PS of my own so I've been binging the game at sleepovers over since June. Amazing fucking game, though my reservations with its plot, daily life OST, and characterization bring it below P4 and P3 for me.
  20. Yeah, sort of. More on a personal level. There's a content advisory floating out there if you need one.
  21. YU-NO's remake is great (it had a few h-scenes in the original release for the PC-98 like 18 years ago, but they didn't matter to the plot in the slightest, highly recommended). At least the original game is, and Vokoca liked it, so I presume it's a faithful remake (I don't really like the new art style, but so it goes). It's a point-and-click adventure game/VN hybrid, mind. Actually even more importantly, though, I recommend The House In Fata Morgana -Collected Edition-. Easily 40 hours of content. Is also the best visual novel I've ever read, by far. Incredible characters, perfect music, great plot, and this release has some great Vita-exclusive content too. I want to play it so bad but I don't know Japanese. ;_;
  22. I read Euphoria when I was 16 and Starless when I was 17 and I think they collectively broke something in me lol Euphoria does some good stuff with its story but Starless manages to go even fucking wilder with the sex.
  23. Update: Due to scores going there late three of my four early applications will be delayed (and considered as regular decision) probably, but one went through properly (and that one is Yale, which I'm mad for having applied to because I have a middling GPA and not many APs, and those who get in are usually legendary people). Canada applications are, for the most part, sent.
