Great tracks from mediocre or bad VN soundtracks
Funyarinpa replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I quite like Never7's OST as well, but it's pretty cliche and campy. -
Basically, I mean great music from games that overall don't have a very memorable soundtrack. Examples: Languor-Never7 Kara no Shojo- Kara no Shojo

Best of luck, Soul. --- Confession: I think I just ended a couple budding friendships. I'd found a cosplay group of like-minded ameteurs back in May (all of us were literally obsessed with Persona 5) and gone to a con with them three weeks ago. Anyways, we have a WhatsApp group. Today, we talked about the suicide of Linkin Park's lead singer. Most didn't care and one was really disappointed. Fair game. But then someone said "I hate people who commit suicide for being so weak", and that pissed me the fuck off. I tried to remain calm and explain why he was being an asshole, but the dude just said "heh, I'm not one for drawn-out arguments, I guess you may have that opinion so long as it doesn't affect me". Heartless, condescending son of a bitch. I was really disappointed and feeling betrayed at this point- although I've never truly contemplated suicide in the past or had a close person fall victim to it, the matter is of personal importance to me. Then a second guy (who I saw as pretty much literally me with curly hair) supported the first guy. We were planning for another cosplay already, but I don't think that'll be necessary. I don't want to go anymore. I suppose I should be glad I got some exercise in cutting toxic people out of my life.

What are you listening to right now?

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Funyarinpa replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Slept over at a friend with a PS4 between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning. I'd lent him my copy of Persona 5 (I don't have a PS4 ;_;) so I had a chance to finally continue playing the game (last played it a month or so ago, up to the end of the first dungeon). Reached the middle of the fourth Palace on Hard (clocked 50 hours total). The game's style is absolutely lovely, and the soundtrack (bar a few underwhelming daytime themes) is sublime. I can listen to Life Goes On for hours on end. I quite like the Confidants as well, they're unique and interesting characters. I really liked what I saw of the plot, but I'm worried I am going too fast (averaged something like 11 hours and 20 minutes daily). This is especially because I've yet to form a connection to the cast and the setting. Somehow playing 3-4 hours a day and finishing a Persona game in 2-3 weeks feels like the better way to go. Also, we were staying as four friends at the sleepover so others were always watching. Perhaps that's why I haven't been able to hook myself into the atmosphere, also. I've also been obsessed with the game for 1.5 years (found out about Persona by buying 4 Golden on a whim in November '15). Been listening to the released soundtracks since then, and practically all my wallpapers etc. have been Persona related. So I might have burned myself the fuck out on the game without even playing it. The cast... is amazing individually (although Ryuji gets on my fucking nerves), but the group simply does not work. The cast doesn't interact in any interesting way. There's a lingering awkwardness whenever the Phantom Thieves convene, we see no intimacy or closeness or friendship. They haven't had almost any events between April through July. I have other pet peeves too- Makoto is bossing everyone around (which is fine, I love her self-discipline, but she just comes across as really cold) and Ann being the butt of pervy treatment is really, really tone deaf. Persona 4's characters weren't as well realized individually, but they worked incredibly well as a group and their mannerisms played off of each other. P5's cast just talks among itself whenever plot stuff comes up and we never see them acting like friends. I find that incredibly disappointing. P3 did something similar but that was because SEES was a group that was forced together by circumstance and that dynamic changed by the end, and it was obviously deliberate. In P5, it comes off as a spectacular failure in developing the group's relationship. P.S: I love Futaba's characterization so far. Love it. The most interesting character by far. P. P. S: Tae or Makoto? Need to pick one ;_; P. P. P. S.: Morgana not letting you do shit at night is utter bullshit indeed, especially since there are Confidants and activities exclusive to evenings now. Also played the demo of NieR Automata like, five times. It might have my favorite combat in literally any game. 2B and 9S are amazing, and the story is wonderful as well. I'd played it at 20-25 FPS for 10 hours or so myself, Favorite-game-ever material, but I cannot do to it the insult of playing at sub-60 FPS. Into the PS4 bucket list it goes... Besides that, working my way through Dark Souls II: Scholar Of The First Sin. Nowhere as good as DS1, but something is really drawing me towards it anyway. Currently in the Iron Keep. -
I'd bought S. (by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst) from Amazon, it apparently arrived yesterday. Due to some stuff though I'm only heading home now and I'm excited to crack it open. I was reading Crime and Punishment before. Really liked some bits, wasn't as hooked by others. Doesn't drag, somehow (I normally can't get into classical literature due to their settings). Reading the (apparently wonderful) Oliver Ready translation from Penguin.

Begrudgingly, Sekai- Novectacle's new project is a showstopper for me. There's no new Higurashi info (except Soon(tm)) or Chiru release date, so Mangagamer was underwhelming.

Oh hey, thank you! I love that song and it had been a while since I listened to it. The House In Fata Morgana has an absolutely sublime OST. It's probably my fifth time or so posting about it in this thread, but none is on this page, so I'll be posting some Fata tunes again. These are relatively early-game stuff and mostly not even in the top 10 tracks in the game. And then there's the greatest stuff. If you liked what I posted above, play the game instead of opening this- these are best heard ingame for the first time.

The House In Fata Morgana could count. There are some fantastical elements, but not much. In terms of horror, it isn't "Spooky creatures appear" sort of horror, but some truly horrific things happen to some characters. There are quite a few tools for that purpose, but since I never used one, I can't guide you I'm afraid. The term you're looking for is "machine translation" though.

If your last google search was a VN title...

"Occam's Razor" Y'know, I could roll with this. Fanfiction ending to Zero Escape! -
Time to look for more VN to refill my wishlist.

Oh god, if you love Gothic art style... The House In Fata Morgana might be up your god damn alley: (big pics) -
you should read the house in fata morgana it's the exact opposite of grisaia in terms of style, plot, structure and anything else read it anyway

you two are back? holy fuck it's like late 2014 in here

Oh yeah I already have 13 hours clocked in Scholar of the First Sin lol, bought the game from Humble Bundle (it's 12 bucks there now). Started it before I finished DS1. I really like it so far, but some things like HP decrease really annoys me. Found a ring to counteract that though, and just got to no man's wharf.
-
Welp. Finished DS1, clocked at 74 hours. What a goddamn wonderful game. Only regret is using black pyromancy on Gwyn lol, shit's extremely (extremely!) powerful.

Which version of Higurashi are you playing? Steam release? Old localization release? The Japanese release itself?

Best Visual Novel Contest --Round 4 Voting-- (16 VNs left)
Funyarinpa replied to NowItsAngeTime's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Looked for that exact same thing and I'm incredibly disappointed right now. Smh. All these Amane and Michiru fans... tsk tsk tsk. -
It is "not extreme" only in the sense that "Some people don't feel physically disgusted while playing it". A VN that features repeated and detailed scenes of torture and rape is "extreme" in every other sense of the word. There are more extreme VNs out there (Starless with its 80 scenes, guillodick, horses, pigs comes to mind) but Euphoria is still at a 9.9999 if not a 10 on the "really fucked up shit" scale.
-
RIP. Oh well, if you're gay, that at least rules out the possible impression that she thinks you're a closet rapist or something. I'd say that's a plus. Sensei's scenes are the least fucked up of those in Euphoria, so you lucked out on that front.

Congratulations my dude, you deserve it.
