I don't get why studying wouldn't be considered "actual work," lol. I can say from experience that intelligence will make life a lot easier for you. That's not to say taking your studies seriously will make you an intelligent person, but it's a step in the right direction at least. Doesn't hurt to be more mindful of how you learn in school either. You can't always rely on your teachers for learning efficiently.

Finished watching Aria the Animation. For a iyashikei (healing anime), it does well at what it sets out to do. Interesting world, relaxing atmosphere, nothing even remotely over the top, and "healing" segments that will melt your heart away. Now as much as I thought the anime excelled at the areas I mentioned, I just couldn't really get into it. I suppose iyashikei just isn't my cup of tea, as I didn't really like Mushishi either. I don't know, just something about the general slowness of the events kinda make it a chore for me to sit through the whole episode. I'll enjoy these kinds of shows for about 5 episodes, but I lose interest after that. If you have a high tolerance for slow anime, then I'd definitely recommend giving this a shot. I understand it's suppose to get better after this, but I don't plan on watching Natural or Origination. After talking it over with my friend, we both came to the conclusion that they wouldn't do much for me either. Still, for Animation to be good enough for me to actually not drop it does say a lot about its quality. Damn, I'm down to 27 anime on my on hold list. I plan on knocking out the last 3 episodes I have left for Majestic Prince and then moving on to Heavy Object. I'm getting there!

Trump and the connection between democracy and tyranny
Kenshin_sama replied to sanahtlig's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I see. I didn't think you'd need to be that educated on politics to understand it, but I suppose it is rather complicated. As depressing as they can, I do occasionally read arguments on FB to understand how people get involved in the political system and why things are as messed up as they have been. One conclusion I did eventually come to was that there's never a straightforward fix to anything. I believe Represent.Us plans on using the ballot initiative to get around Congress. It seems to have been successful in some cities, and it could go further to the state and federal level if their plan pulls through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhe286ky-9A -
Trump and the connection between democracy and tyranny
Kenshin_sama replied to sanahtlig's topic in General Discussion
Very interesting. I'm not the best-informed on politics, and as sensible as that article seems to me, a lot of the points contradict my current beliefs. However, because I lack the knowledge to really understand politics, I'm willing to keep an open mind. I'd just like a few things clarified to me if you're able to. My main question right now is in regards to "big money" in politics. Since the beginning of this election (when I started paying attention to politics), I've held on to the belief that corruption has had a significantly negative impact on our economy. Wealth and income inequality is still a problem, poverty is on the rise, the middle class is virtually non-existent, and human labor will eventually be obsolete. Right now, I believe that our political system has been completely overrun by oligarchs aiming to limit the wealth of hard-working people in order to further their own growth. As I see it, the whole point of lobbying from special interests is to further corporate profits. If politicians are tied to their donors through massive contributions, will these issues be resolved by lifting the cap on donations? The main reason I ask that is because of a campaign that aims to make lobbying illegal through the ballot initiative. Would that be considered counterproductive to resolving problems in the US? I'm really not sure if I should be skeptical of the Anti-Corruption Act or not. https://represent.us/ http://anticorruptionact.org/whats-in-the-act/ -
Almost finished watching Gintama°. Fantastic series as I expected it to be, while at the same time surprising me in a few ways. I never once thought an anime would have me crying for a vending machine. And now I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever have the opportunity to experience everything I can in entertainment, lol. The Shogun Assassination arc was amazing too. Like, seriously, I never would have come to expect myself having any more respect for Gintoki than I had already, but it was an intense experience getting to know more about his past. And for him to turn out to be such an amazing character, it would make sense that his teacher would have been great too, but it was beyond the extent that I had imagined. Now I understand a little more about how his students felt so passionately about him, and why Takasugi hates the world so much. Woo, another person on board the Nodame train. You're in for a treat, really. I've never even been remotely interested in classic music, but the music in this series captured my heart. The characters are great, too. Very realistic, yet interesting enough to get you emotionally invested in them. Gyabo!

I ship. Yeah, this is the kind of thing I'd expect from a studio like White Fox. One way or another, they've been able to surprise me with some of their anime. This time around, it's the characters that are doing it for me. Not to say I didn't think the characters in S;G weren't great, but it's for entirely different reasons that I'm surprised by the ones in Re:Zero. They're surprisingly easy to connect with, and the emotional impact of the story so far has done much to reinforce that. Rem is an angel, the protagonist has been steadily growing on me, and while I'm still not entirely fond of everybody else yet, the rest of the cast has been very agreeable. And between my love for the fantasy genre and general dissatisfaction with how it's been handled in anime, it's refreshing to see something that does some justice to it for once. Especially for a newer anime.

I could've sworn I post this in the pics thread. Well, if Deadpool can transcend the 4th wall, then I guess I'm technically not off topic, right? Hey, Zeal! Uh, thanks for the song! -

Either way, I don't feel that anything's rushed or out of place yet. For that matter, I don't believe in 1:1 adaptions. As long as the anime makes sense and is enjoyable, I don't mind minor alterations to the story. I want the anime to be a rendition of the original, not an adaption. After watching Little Busters failure of an adaption, I've come to accept that being faithful to the source doesn't always result in a better anime.

I've tried em before, I don't think their chicken's that bad. If I'm gonna pick up chicken that's already prepared, I'll usually go to Publix. It's a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. One thing I'll always remember Popeyes for is Little Nicky, lol.
-
Nope, not me. I kinda hated the visual novel, so I have no plans whatsoever of watching an adaption, lol. Hope it doesn't let you down too hard though. I will agree with what you said about Rem at least. I think it's pretty unanimous among thread posters that she is objectively best girl.

Finished watching Chihayafuru. Honestly, I kinda have a hard time forming an opinion of it. It's a great show without a doubt; the competitions were engaging, the characters were spot on, and it definitely had some emotional value to go along with it. Although for me personally, it just didn't feel satisfying. I really can't give an objective reason as to why, but the characters put me off for some reason. It could be the genre; I don't see myself as a particular fan of josei. The only one I've watched so far that really stood out to me was Nodame Cantabile. I also watched a couple more episodes of Daily Lives of High School Boys and I kinda decided to drop it. For a pure comedy series, it's definitely funnier than most others I tried, but I really just don't like this format of comedy. I prefer comedies like Binbougami ga and Gintama that set up for the jokes and keep the scenario going for entire episodes rather than scene by scene. But if you enjoy anime like Nichijou and Seitokai Yakuindomo (for the record, I didn't like these either), I would definitely consider watching it. It has its on moments and its off moments, but it did make me laugh a bunch of times. As funny as it was though, the scenario transitions really bogged down the enjoyability for me.

Alright, I've gotta hand it to BlazBlue's writer, this guy is crazy smart with how he writes his story. There's a very intricate science fantasy plot and the grand scheme of things aren't explained outright. There are several hints that are laid out regarding the plot throughout the whole story, and it's basically left up to the reader to put everything together and come to a conclusion. I thought everything would be explained a little more simplistically in the true end, but it turns out I was wrong. I'm not entirely fond of this kind of storytelling since I prefer to just take in the emotional parts without having to think too hard about what's going on, but the story is intelligent enough that I can appreciate it more than I normally would. I probably could have figured the plot out if I wanted to, but I decided to read a plot analysis instead. It probably would have taken me several days just to come up with half the stuff I found in the plot guide on GameFAQ, so yeah. Why do the all the work when someone else has already done it for you, right? My final score for it on VNDB isn't gonna be very high, and that's mostly because the regular paths were mostly there for build up and not too entertaining by their own merit. They do keep you interested though. I tend to rate VNs based on my experience in every route, and most of the excitement is in the true end. It really is a great game though. And if you're the type of person that likes to figure out complex plots using scattered hints on your own, then you'll likely enjoy BlazBlue more than I did. I definitely plan on playing the rest of the games in this series. Oh, and if you're able to, get the console version. The Steam version has sync issues with the video and subtitles, and the dub's not that good, lol. The video problem isn't that big a deal since there aren't that many of them, but it's still annoying. Unless you understand Japanese, the only reasonable way around this problem is to play the English dub videos in the game folder since the subs won't work on the Japanese videos, and they're kinda difficult to read when out of sync (they don't show up at all in the last video). It's not worth it to switch the game's audio except for the opening video. The videos in the true end will require you to replay certain game segments (saves are limited and you have to navigate to the options menu outside of story mode) and it kinda breaks the immersion.

My friend knows I'm for gun control reform in the US, so I feel like I hit a low blow with this. Especially considering how I crushed him in a gun control argument not long before this. He hit first, so it's only fair!
