What Light Novel are you reading right now?
FinalChaos replied to Jibril's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
Overlord is now over...... sorry for that horribly bad pun It was great ride. Loved it completely. Volume 9 was the best volume, and I do feel sad that it will take quite a bit of time till I can read more of it. Seriously I'm gonna miss Overlord a loooot. In other news, I finished till volume 5 of NGNL. It's good but reading it beside Overlord makes it seem lack-luster. -
Recommend Me Something - Film
FinalChaos replied to Mr Poltroon's topic in Anime/Manga Recommendations
Might I mention that 'of' would be way more appropriate than 'from'. He is Tiag of Varela after all. As my recommendation, I'm pretty new to the movies myself but I'd nevertheless recommend The Girl who Leapt through Time. I understand that you are wary of the time-travel shenanigans, but the emphasis of the movie is not on time-travel and rather on the characters and how they develop. Time-travel is merely a means for that end. It's not like Steins;Gate which is what you were thinking I guess. -
One-punch man latest episode Oh my god, we actually get a glimpse of the Saitama from the OP. I totally hadn't expected him to take Genos seriously. Damn the impact of that scene just amazing. Well the best ones this season for me are One-punch Man and Noragami which you are already watching. Apart from them the ones good enough are Rakudai no Kishi and Choujin Gensou according to me.

Have exams tommorow. Was getting bored, suddenly remembered that I hadn't watched much anime lately. Randomly decided to watch Durarara! The first episode was pretty good, definitely managed to get me interested. The characters are all interesting too. For some reason I don't want it to become full-blown supernatural, would be better if such powers remained mysterious and rare. Stopped after ep 1, as I realized that isn't what one is supposed to be doing just before an exam.......

What Light Novel are you reading right now?
FinalChaos replied to Jibril's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
Well I'll get to reading NGNL. Mostly I'm gonna keep Mondaiji as my 3rd or 4th LN. And probably see the anime too as an introduction before then -
I don't really give importance to 'morals' most of the time. Generally it's either the pragmatic option or the interesting one. Some exceptions would be when a character is involved that I particularly like or dislike. So basically I play a heavily personalized 'route' you could say rather than just being concerned if it's good or bad, not to mention that 'good and bad' is highly subjective and even the devs thoughts are involved like Clephas mentioned.

If you are reading the translated version of Overlord, I hate to break it to you, but YP licensed it, so no more volumes are going to be translated. I haven't read all of NGNL, but I hold the opinion that Mondaiji-tachi is superior in every respect. Just personal bias. As for quality, most of the stuff published before or around 2005 is pretty good. It was after that point where LN quality really goes full tilt into the ecchi territory with less thought. There are some exceptions, but that's the general trend. I already read about the Overlord licensing on the translators site. They will stop after vol 9 which is the last one that's been written. Vol 9 is likely to be the best the best vol till now, so I'll have satisfy myself with that. Well Overlord stopping is one of the factors which prompted me to read some other series. The reason I chose NGNL was because I had already seen the anime and was really interested to see where it would lead. Since this is only my second LN I was thinking of restricting myself to stuff I already have an interest in. I haven't seen Mondaiji, I have heard about it though. Will probably read it in the future if my interest in LNs keeps up. I mostly wanted to know if NGNL goes downhill after the point where the anime ended. As long as the LN is as good as the anime it should keep me interested. And plus I'm a big sucker for 'King' stuff, so a King going around conquering is sure to interest me. -

FinalChaos replied to Jibril's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
I generally don't read much of LNs. Have read a couple of volumes from some series in the past but I never really read a whole series properly. I liked the Overlord anime quite a bit and decided to read the LNs, so here I am. Have read all the 8 volumes released in english(waiting for vol 9 translation) and thus Overlord has become my first LN series. It was a fun ride, really enjoyed it and the hype for vol 9 is off the charts. That being said, after blazing through 8 volumes I can't help the urge to read more. So as I was wondering about what else to read, I thought that I'd read No Game No Life. I had watched the anime, but as it was quite a while back so I'll be starting from volume 1. I'd like to your views on NGNL before starting. -
This is definitely great news. Here's to hoping that LB becomes the new vn representative on steam rather that Sakura. I'm also curious to see how much sales it gets......

Choujin Gensou finally picked up pace in this episode. It was much better than the previous ones. It's nice to see more about Jiro and his past. We also see some major plot advancement. I was happy with this episode as it managed to pique my interest and was also well-executed. Hopefully the next episodes are also as good.

If your High School experience were a VN, what ending did you get?
FinalChaos replied to Zalor's topic in Members' Lounge
I can relate to that feeling. Now I'm still in highschool, at the time went most of the studying part is over and there are looots of tests, the preparation for entrance exams is also going in high gear. So yeah I'm basically past the point where I could afford to fool around. There were a couple of chances but as you said I did absolutely nothing. Just thought that it probably won't amount to much and being indecisive. Plus I have high aspirations to get into a pretty hard-to-get college and so I blatantly used that excuse saying that I need to study and shouldn't get myself distracted. On the path to get the neutral end. -
Demonbane. I had stalled it quite a time back and got back to it last week. I finally finished my first route(Al Azif). It was a great ride, really liked the way it slowly revealed the stuff. There's a lot of left unanswered which will probably be cleared in the other routes. But the vn is pretty long, wonder if the other routes are as long as this one.

Asterisk had me laughing really hard. The light novel masks most of the really silly stuff, but the animation doesn't. So when you see him telling her point face that "My purpose is to protect you." when he has little to no justification behind it, you can't help but laugh like a madman. The show really highlights the cliches the story builds upon extremely well. I don't think the show could hide them even if it covered the show with a plastic screen covering it. Every last bit of trope stands out plain as day, and I can't help but wonder if the animators are doing it on purpose. Rakudai keeps chugging along at it's own pace, doing every thing well. The confession was great, but the manga version makes it so much more entertaining. Ikki isn't nearly as crippled in bed where he can't move. I haven't read the actual books yet, but it really seems like they streamlined what is meant to be the defining highlight of the show that makes it stand out from every other series in the genre, the romance. There are tons of school battle series that do psuedo romance into harem, but I think this is one of the few that takes to the left fork of singular romance instead. The way they downplayed that scene is really going to screw people over into thinking that this show is a harem as it continues even though they effectively just confessed and became a couple at this point. Inb4 people start claiming the show turns into a harem, because being in a relationship with someone yet still having a girl or two pine after you is totally the definition of harem. I'm looking at you guys Raildex and SAO As for your comment about the animation, I'm sticking to my statement that I think the aesthetic of Rakudai fits the show much better than Asterisk's does. This week Asterisk showcased that 3D model animation in anime still doesn't look good when heavily relied upon, and that if you intend to use it, do so in a way that everything looks fairly equal. It seems that Asterisk is using 3D modeling in an attempt to cut budget where it doesn't really need to be where Rakudai uses it to make the backgrounds a little more lively. The ending to Asterisk really showcases this when they have the president come on with an emote engine bouncing around like wet pudding. I'm willing to bet that at some point in the creation of the show they bought the rights to use that piece of software to cut down on work, only to realize that it looked terrible. Well I don't know how much different was the original confession scene, but it seemed fine to me. There were only 2 girls to begin with - Stella and Shizuku. And with the scene between Shizuku and Alice, the couples are pretty set. Though yeah other girls might be coming along later on but I think the anime made it pretty clear that they are a couple. Plus it was a proper straightforward confession rather the convoluted, indirect and vague confessions that happen a lot of time. I might be biased though as I generally don't like when things get too cheesy. As for the animation part, yeah I agree that Asterisk's animation is not great, the 3D models sucked and those episode-end scenes are just bad(really I was thinking wth happened when I first saw it). But I had said graphics and not animation. It doesn't seem like I was able to say it properly though. What I meant was that the general visuals of Asterisk are better than Rakudai. I do understand that Rakudai's art-style fits it, but it could definitely use an upgrade. Actually you can even say that difference is due to the different budgets that the two shows have. Just compare the OP and ED of the two shows, it's clear to see that Asterisk is better. That sakura-blossom and the sunset scene in Rakudai, they were definitely meant to be more impactful and vibrant.

Asterisk ep4, god there's so much stuff that I want to nitpick about this. But the most annoying part was the protag's 'purpose', really now how cliched and idiotic can you get. Rakudai was good. It's making steady progress, didn't expect them to confess so soon though(a nice change from the norm). I really wish we could have the graphics and sound from asterisk and the characters from Rakudai in one anime.
-
Yeah but since it's a sequel I'll still need to play the first vn before watching it. Well one more reason to increase it's prio in my long to-read list.
-
Yep the quoting is pretty annoying so @havoc to the rescue. Correct me if I'm mistaken but the current anime seems to be based on the sequel to the original vn. I was avoiding it since I thought I will be missing out on some stuff. I generally prefer not to miss out on stuff (like some good references the prequel and the cut stuff).

The first episode was really... meh? It didn't really set anything up in the show so far other than that we have a manic girl who is the daughter of some famous forensic professor who has the randomly magical ability to see through flesh and into the skeletons of people. We also have tag-along-kun who is meant to be her restrainer yet only ends up in a subservient role where he can't do anything other than be her cute little pet. Wait till episode 3 for some actual insight into the series's plot commentary. On the technical aspects, everything seemed reasonably fine, except that I think they blew half the budget on the first episode in a single 30 second clip of her magical stare into the skeleton of two dead people. The premise is great, the execution is just meh. But it could still become someting but at this point it is not great. If you want someting different and are not watching it yet try the new UTAWARERUMONO -Itsuwari no Kamen- it is possibly one of the best series this season. it also has one of those rare homey feelings to it. So I should probably wait a bit longer to see if Sakurako improves. Thanks for your help. As for Utawareumono, I'm avoiding it since I want to play the vn before I watch the adaptation.

The lastest episode of both Cavalry and Asterisk are just okay-ish. But I still prefer Cavalry as it's characters seem more interesting and the fights are also better(the animation too). And I was thinking about watching 'Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru', but since no-one has posted anything about it I'd like to ask if it's good.
-
Oh I forgot he did that. Actually did figure you were talking about someone else because I'm not really known. But somebody had to acknowledge my birthday. Even if it had to be me. what? I'm not lonely. You're lonely! Well a happy birthday to you too, my friend. Though it's a belated one now. Hope that you enjoyed your birthday.
-
Well I was actually referring to the fact that Okabe calls Cristina also as 'The Zombie' in his super-engrish voice.

Happy Birthday to THE ZOMBIE

Never seen the F/SN anime, and I don't plan to change that in the future. I've heard it's pretty meh, and that dragon scene is just so bad. Finished Fate/Zero in around two days because it got me hooked, and man, that was a great anime. Probably one of the best serious action anime I've seen so far. Started watching Unlimited Blade Works because Ufotable too good and I can't read VNs for up to a week. I'm boarding the hype train for re-reading F/SN and moving on to Fate/hollow ataraxia, and so far, it's working very well. When I said FS/N anime, I was referring to the ufotable one. I have absolutely no idea which other anime you could confuse it with. DEEN FS/N DOES NOT EXIST

IPB 4: Info and Error Reporting

Ah. So you used that instead of following threads -- is that correct? Yeah Following every thread would make stuff messy and plus I generally follow announcement/TL projects threads to get mails. Read my above post, and then here's the exact link I was thinking of. It's the "New Content" page filtered to "New Content" and threads you've posted in: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/new-content/?updateFilters=1&onlyParticipated=1 EDIT: You can also filter by "Since your last visit", in the last week, month, year, etc. Oh didn't notice those filters in New Content. Well this should the trick. Thanks a lot. Tay to the resue ftw -

Well what I lost with the 'My Content' page is the ability to see if any of the threads I posted in had new posts. For me mostly the threads that I constantly read or check are the ones I am interested in and have posted in at least once. In the new activity page you only see the topics that you created yourself and not the ones that you posted in.
