The unfunny part of childhood people you got on facebook is how you realize you ended up having very different ideas than they do and see them liking racist/right-wing etc stuff... As time goes on you seem to naturally get closer to people with similar ideas on life as you.

Bloggers - What is it like and how do you do it?
Down replied to LiquidShu's topic in General Discussion
The main purpose of the blog I made recently is to have a place to write about things I want to write about in a longer and more constructed manner than forum posts and tweets, basically. It's useful since I like to write posts that link together various topics I'm interested in. Sometimes some or several things have been simmering in my head for a while (e.g. the reaction of people to Conjueror's TL polls and the much broader topic of 'opinions' and their social origin, my first and only blog post so far) and I just want to have somewhere to dump it all in a structured text rather than leave it as an incoherent bundle of thoughts. I also intend to have translations of staff interviews (anime and maybe VNs), it's a resource that is kinda lacking in the western communities and I feel like contributing to it a little bit. Since I view it more as a placeholder than anything, I don't feel compelled to write on it in a regular and frequent way (which I'm absolutely incapable of doing anyway). -
Conjueror's Untranslated Visual Novel Tournament [Discussion]

Look. Today's the 10th of March. 10+3=13. M is the 13th letter of the alphabet. We're in 2016. 2x6+1=13. Again. It's a Thursday. How do you say Thursday in japanese? Mokuyoubi. Yep. An M again. If that's not enough to convince you, consider this. This is the 61168th post on this sub-forum. 61168 = 13 x 13 x 2 x 181. Again, 2 M. And 181 is the 42th prime number. 42, as everyone knows, is the answer to life, the universe and everything. Therefore Muramasa is the answer to life, the universe and everything and you should vote for it. -

Rooke, nobody can seriously believe you, of all people, are pleading for a vote against the establishment. Sharpen your political rhetoric I voted Muramasa btw. But I don't really care, I'm just happy SakuUta won the QF loser bracket by beating WA2's ass. -
I would abuse the ACP access and change Nosebleed's name to 勃起 for the lulz but that would probably cause the accidental deletion of half the database of the forums. A pity.

Mangagamer is progressively getting rid of their DRMs, and since their download limit is not a download limit but an activation code limit for the DRM, they're also progressively getting rid of that. Of course they need to convince each individual japanese company that DRMs aren't needed so they probably still have some games with activation codes - looking at my MG account it looks like Eden and Cartagra do, unless that's because I bought them before they got rid of DRMs.

Certain Moment in Chris's Route in Maji De Watashi Ni Koi Shinisai
Down replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'll choose to take that as a joke because it's more or less parody at this point, but try to not get yourself arrested, dude. -

Sure, okay, it's fiction, fetishistic, irrealistic, etc... But then that's all you need to say, no need to try to justify that it wasn't really rape or w/e. -

Down replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
You guys really have a weird idea of rape, uh It doesn't matter that he loves her. A lot of rapes occur within couples. The majority of them are perpetrated by someone the victim knows. Physical strength doesn't matter that much either, a situation of rape rarely leaves you in a psychological state of being able to defend yourself. Last but not least "but she didn't resist" "but she secretly wanted it" are all typical victim-blaming and slut-shaming justifications. She doesn't agree to it clearly, before they start = it's rape. Plain and simple. Of course here it's just fiction, it's not realistic blablabla; if that had occured in real life it would have been a rape and that's all. No excuses. -
It doesn't exist. Chiitrans and AGTH are not machine translators but hooking tools that link to machine translators like ATLAS, google tl, bing...

F/SN could feature under the definition of bloated but it's so huge it wouldn't fit. I don't think you can say Tsukihime needs trimming but F/SN doesn't. -
Beato has been around longer than me. Although she's a bit different from global mods, I guess technically now she does other stuff for the sites than mod tasks. But yeah otherwise I managed to not die, piss off Tay or get pissed off/bored by this site. Some of those are definitely not easy to achieve.

Y'know, I should have written something like that earlier. I used to have a much clearer picture of the timeline of events on fuwanovel since I joined but now it's all blurry and I can't remember what happened when. Oh well. It's not like I got any hot takes on fuwahistory.

Mahoyo and CCC are supposed to be the best things Nasu wrote (but ofc that comes from english jp readers who are pissed off at the english TM fanbase). -

Yes but now we can sit back and look at the TM fans tearing at each others to figure out if they want Mahoyo or CCC. And they're pretty mad: -

Using the ACP on IPB4, allegory: What's funny is Kaguya apparently made more significant changes without asking anyone before and that doesn't seem to have broken shit. NB is out of luck
-
5 hours of downtime eh, not bad. So, when do we get stripped of our ACP access?

I don't even know what hipster means anymore. Is it really hipster to play BL/otome games when you're not the intended target? I know we got some cases of severe "but what if I catch THE GAYZ" stupidity in VN communities, but it doesn't seem that "hipster" to me. I don't think there are particularly more men than women watching anime btw. There's no particular stats on this that I know of but it doesn't seem heavily disproportionate.
-
Afaik there are BL (and perhaps otome) games that are fairly well aware of the cultural legacy of stuff like the Year 24 mangakas (e.g. Shingakkou) and that deals with similar themes etc. Ofc there aren't that many BL games to begin with, much less available in english... But it's there. I don't see the link with hipsterism though.

This just goes to show how non-trivial it is to define mainstream and underground currents. Nobody even seems to agree on what's mainstream and what's not and at what scale in our own communities, how the hell are we supposed to actually know what goes on on the jp side of things? Especially since they don't seem to be using exactly the same kind of media as we do in the same proportions; have fun digging up 2ch and twitter discussions to know what people think.

I think you missed my point. SP knows how piracy works because they're not literal retards, therefore if there's a reason for why they've put a limit on the number of downloads, either it has to do with piracy in a way that is more sophisticated than the platitudes that we evoked so far in this thread, or it doesn't have to do with piracy period.
