Lamune Translation (hacking and discussion)
zoom909 replied to zoom909's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Well, you're quite an optimist, aren't you? But it could just as easily be an entirely different format. Anyway, the archive format is definitely not the same. It's one gigantic archive volume helpfully named "data.bin" Until I can open it, I won't know if the script format matches or not. The program code contains the following string: H3D> HuneX Consumer 3D System for PlayStation2.........H3D> Runtime Library Release %s......VER 1.01........H3D> ------------------------------------------.........H3D> WELCOME TO PLEASANT GAME DEVELOPMENT!..... That's the only identifying mark I found. Here's their website, they have programmed a LOT of games: http://www.hunex.co.jp/p_02/k_ps2.html I also want to check and make sure that PCSX2 can actually run Lamune. The Lamune PC game is the original and a classic, so I won't lose too much sleep over it either way. However, the collector in me would like to pursue the PS2 version. -
Learning Japanese, any got any tips?

See if you can read and understand the goldfish article. (the article comes with a glossary containing words they don't expect you to necessarily know) http://www.firegrubs.com/images/chokochoko/pdf/readingarticle0014.pdf -
Does anyone knows if 雨音スイッチ ~やまない雨と病んだ彼女そして俺~ is a nukige?
zoom909 replied to Jiharo's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Looking at it on EGS, seems like part Nukige and part Utsuge -
Yeah, Soukou no Strain was an awesome space anime. I re-watched it earlier this year. Gunbuster and a bunch of older shows have been released as fansubs of r2dvd's over the past few years. It's easier than ever to reach back in time... Have you seen "Zillion"? COnsidering when that show was made, I thought the animation was really HQ...and it's a TV series, not an OVA... Miracle Girls is done, Super Doll Licca is done...a lot of older shows that I used to hear anime fans discussing. And they turned out to be really good shows.

Learning the readings through immersion should suffice for a while. But if you're going to read without ITH, or you're going to read console VNs/RPGs or light novels, or if you just want to be able to read faster in general, you'd do well to study the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary and review with a kanji quiz program. And I am not a detractor of RTK either. RTK is for beginners, KLD is for intermediates.

I got home early today because of snow, I just finished playing Blazing Lazers("Gunhed") for TG16 and I'm about to play Space Megaforce("Super Aleste") for SNES By the way, so far my 360 is still functioning after 5 yrs. I wonder if the JP 360's are more reliable somehow. (I was silly and originally bought it to play Idolmaster even though I couldn't really play it.)

I don't really have an otaku room either, I just have a few items sutbly scattered around the house that a visitor might or might not notice.

It's the 3rd side of the triangle, with anime being one side, manga being another side, and VNs being another side. I get the same 2D bishoujos, but in more detailed art. I get the same loveable Japanese voicing and those cute little BGM songs that accompany my favorite characters. I get the same types of romantic storylines, but more expanded. And I get the first person perspective of becoming that lucky guy. I'm not tired of moe like some people. If it doesn't have the moe-moe doki-doki fuwa-fuwa mune-kyun ultra-bishoujos, I skip it.

Lamune Translation (hacking and discussion)
zoom909 replied to zoom909's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
You looked at vndb, didn't you...this is their shortcoming...they don't distinguish between just repackaging the game like for download or including it in a collector's box, and actual enhanced versions of the game. According to EGS there are really only 2 versions of Lamune: the old 18+ one for PC (called just "Lamune") the new one for PS2 (called "Lamune: The Glass Bottle that Reflects the Sea") Some games get enhanced in a console version. Some get enhanced in a new PC version. Some go through many cycles of enhancement between console and PC. Some never get enhanced at all. I don't know who decides all that stuff--I just know it isn't me. -
You mean the Java console? No, the kanji programs's got a regular windows GUI. Java comes with a GUI library called Swing. I used NetBeans to make the GUI.
-
Oh I was just being silly...since you said "basic" I tried to write something in Basic. I have one program I wrote in Java. It's a little multiple choice quiz on Kyouiku kanji. It works as it is but I wanted to add more to it or make it run on some other language. But I'm not good at programming so I'm slow, and I spend my time translating instead. By the way do you know this site: http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net It has the same short program written in practically every computer language there is.

So, now if someone says Steve they actually mean Seventhfonist, but just plain Steve is the other Steve? This is going to be interesting. Oh, well why didn't you say so? 10 CLS 20 PRINT "HELLO STEVE "; 30 GOTO 20 RUN

Lamune Translation (hacking and discussion)
zoom909 replied to zoom909's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Yeah I managed to get it before that happened. Play-tested very briefly on the first script with a choice--seems fine now. Thanks again. By the way, you don't happen to know about PS2 hacking, do you? There is a new version of Lamune that has 6 heroines instead of 4. Just thinking ahead (way, way ahead) -
Rogue-like as in the dungeon-crawling game? Or something else I don't know about? It looks more like a Tokimeki Memorial or some other sim style VN

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but how are you using your vndb list, the list itself is much smaller than your voting list. And that reminds me, I know I haven't voted on anything yet, but does vndb let you change your vote? Because the reason I was holding off is because I didn't want to give something a rating that I'd have to change after reading other things...

Yea, all I play are romance/comedy games, Since you're willing to read partials, I got one for you that you've gotta try: -Brighter than Dawning Blue. -I see you haven't read "Mirai no Kimi to Subete no Uta ni" or any of the vocaloid games. -I see Da Capo 2 on there but not the original Da Capo... -I don't see Flyable Heart (but you probably should wait for a better translation anyway)

Hello. Your profile pic is easily my favorite one on this forum. (What's it from?)

I found a Japanese fan page for those tetragonal tidebreaker things. -
Well, I did notice that in season 2, instead of true puzzles like in season 1, they focused on 2-player strategy games instead...but then the addition of the Orpheus Order characters compensated for that.

Cool, another potential Aria fan! And don't forget Arietta, it comes in between Natural and Origination

I just finished Rozen Maiden (the old one). Don't know how I let this one slip thru the cracks, it was great. But at least now when I watch the newer one I should be more prepared. I'm re-watching Mirai Shounen Conan which is a great adventure show, it's one of the oldest anime's I'm willing to watch--most 70's anime the art is intolerable for me but since this is Hayao Miyazaki it ends up looking really nice, actually. I'm also watching the new Star Blazers--sorry--Space Battleship Yamato 2199 at my friend's house--he has the blu rays. And I'm watching a show called Hentai Ouji to Warawarenai Neko, which is actually kind of not making a whole lot of sense, but I like it anyway, you can probably guess why.

Any other would-be puzzle solvers out there? I think Phi Brain is one of the most entertaining anime I've seen in a while. I just finished seasons 1 and 2, will start 3 soon. I don't know, I usually watch moe-esque shows, but the over-the-top characters and the suspense and the puzzle motif hooked me somehow...
