I found something really funny if you haven't seen it something that you classic anime fellows really will get a charge out of. It's 37 minutes of cringe-worthy old anime trailers (it's the ads that are cheesy, not the anime themselves) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkxdZ3ByrEE

Now that would be best answered by some well-chosen clips...but I need a bit of time to get them together. (say...you did view this show as a comedy, right?) Well, I would use the word "appalling" at the story being added to To Love Ru Darkness, in much the same way as if someone added a story to the 3 Stooges. Thankfully it didn't turn serious like I thought it might, at least in what they've done so far, it recovered and went back to being lite. Because I don't want a show that I was enjoying for madcap comedy to suddenly try and turn serious. I call that "bipolar". Example: Sora no Otoshimono. And if Darkness continues to get more serious in the future, I will have to write it off.

Hmm...I have to counter this opinion b/c DearS was one of my favorites. How is Ren a slut?? And it definitely shows her having emotions at some point. The protogonist is aggravating, but he's basically a stand-up guy (lots of anime protagonists are like this). If Ren & Miu are not fun & lovable girls, I have to take a look at your anime list. Let's see... To Love Ru gets a 4. Tari-Tari gets a 3. Fantasista Doll gets a 2. Okay, something's going on here. Obviously your definition of "fun & lovable girls" differs from mine. Oh well.

OK, here's my (partial) list of classics. There are so many good anime 2005 or before... -Akai Koudan Zillion -Dirty Pair (TV series, movie. Some OVAs are better than others) -Chiccha na Yuki-tsukai Sugar -Tsukuyomi Moon Phase -Super Doll Licca-chan -Dragon Half -Da Capo (1st and 2nd season) -Tokyo Mew Mew -Mermaid Melody Pitchi-pitchi-pitch -Vampire Hunter D -Aria -To Heart -Kaleido Star -Futakoi -UFO Princess Valkyrie -Elemental Gelade -Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha -DearS -Chobits -Ai Yori Aoshi -Angelic Layer -Choujo Maris -SDF Macross (TV series and movie) -Onegai Teacher -Windaria -Mahou Sensei Negima -Kimi ga Nozomu Eien -Choujin Locke I've seen people reject anime because it wasn't HD. Even though it was widescreen. Seriously.

Tokimeki Memorial Translation Project
zoom909 replied to ShockBro's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
About question #1, I think both are true. I think those hours are the total play time, not the time you spend reading the story text. Because Tokimeki Memorial 1 is not a visual novel. It is a dating sim. Specifically, it was supposed to be a high school life sim. Now this next part is completely my opinion. I tried this game out a long time ago. The reason I gave up on it is because, I felt that there was too much time spent doing school activities to level up your stats compared to the time spent advancing the story... But at the time it came out, it must have seemed pretty awesome. After all, there was no To Heart or Kanon yet... -
I agree completely. The feeling I got from it was that it was trying to be a deep, symbolic show but ultimately just derailed. I have seen far worse shows than that, but I do not understand why it is considered so great.

I don't really like marathons. -The longest I ever watched one show was Kurau Phantom Memory (1st 18 episodes). Not my idea, but I didn't mind because it was a really engaging show and anime was still kind of new to me at that point. -The 2nd longest was about half of Excel Saga. Again, not my idea. It didn't help matters that to me, it's the kind of show that should be taken in small doses. -Normally by myself, average 4 episodes a day. Usually only two different shows at a time. -Once a week with friends, a block of around 6 hours of anime watching. But, as an unwritten rule, never more than 5 episodes of the same show at a time.

I definitely like the idea of routes. In fact, I like to play one route and let it sit for a while before I go back and play another. I think of them as separate, yet linked stories, each one sort of a "what if" scenario. Sort of like Zoom909's Cat.* As far as making the choices, it's okay, I do usually use walkthroughs too because I'm pressed for time; yet I don't think it deprives me of that much enjoyment... The choices in VN-type galgames seem kind of strange sometimes. Sometimes too obvious, like "I wonder what girl A is doing" or "I wonder where girl B is going" etc. Sometimes they are pretty vague and you don't find out the impact very easily. In VNs, some of the most entertaining choices are the ones that don't set any route flags at all, but just give you a little more control over how a scene plays out. Now in dating sim-type galgames it's a whole different story. When it's the kind of choices you make there, where you pick from a few conversational replies and you can get feedback immediately that the girl you're talking to is either pleased or annoyed, I enjoy those type of choices a lot more. * Zoom909's Cat is a famous thought experiment where there's a different kind of cat inside a box each time you open it, even though it's the same box. Like one time it's a tabby, one time it's a calico, etc. But behind the scenes actually there's a false bottom to the box, and someone is opening it from the bottom and sticking a different cat in there each time.

Hello... Am I the same way? Yes. (For example, right now, I don't know what to say.)

Amen to that. You have impeccable taste and are probably a darn nice person, too. I think you should take a look at: Mirai no Kimi to Subete no Uta ni Shuffle Yoake-Mae Yori Ruri-iro Na

So there is an ura-forum behind the regular forum? I'd like to try it then. What if I'm missing something important.

As a rule, no otaku-centric or akiba-centric deconstructionist/satirical shows, which are the antithesis of my own escapist philosophy of anime, can ever become my favorite shows--it's not escapism when the real world is made to intrude upon it, even for the sake of "humor." Although Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai was probably the closest one of those shows had come, because I thought that show was something special (at least for the first season). Anyway, I find myself watching "Watashi ga Motenai no wa, Dou Kangaete mo, Omaera ga warui"--because I'm looking at me! Yes, a female version of me. I've seen 2 episodes; how long this morbid fascination will last is anybody's guess. For a more traditional anime, I watched Haja Taisei Dangaioh, which someone just recently fansubbed from the DVD, in case you missed it. It was pretty awesome, and this OVA was never available in the U.S. on laserdisc or DVD...

Well, I have a new SDOJ high score: 2945316870, stage 5, 360 version Stage 5 is very difficult for me. It is so hard even in 360 mode that I really needn't worry about messing with Arcade mode until I can clear this without continuing.

Someone asked me about this so here goes: it's a list of the VN's I was able to read OK in Japanese and some notes I've only been reading Japanese for a few years, so the logic goes that if I can read it, it's not really a "hard" VN and I know there must be some 1st-time Japanese readers who also like good ol' moe games (right??) NOTE: I read EVERYTHING in Japanese, I don't care if it's been translated or not. That's the way I want it. If there is anything that stands out about the game, I put a "*", otherwise it seemed pretty ordinary. D.C.P.C. * this one has some more complex writing, lots of similes and metaphors, please read carefully Dream Club/Dream Club Zero * these are good for Kanji practice (since you can't use ITH) and grammar-wise it's easier than a real VN Flyable Heart Hoshizoro no Memoria * Seemed particularly easy at the beginning, but I haven't really played it yet. I know the fan disc gets kind of hard from the time when I helped with it. KanojoxKanojoxKanojo * This writer enjoys kanji very much. Even words that other writers use kana for, he uses kanji. Kanon Lamune * The childhood part seemed particularly easy Memories Off Mirai no Kimi to Subete no Uta ni *These Miku ones are not necessarily super easy but the short length may make you feel better about your progress. Mirai no Uta to Tsunagaru Hitomi Nursery Rhyme *The cat Azrael speaks in a way that I think you may find difficult (I did). Rin ga Utau, Mirai no Neiro Shuffle This writer uses longer sentences than most. Expect the window to be filled more often with text. To Heart To Love Ru Doki Doki Rinkaigakkou-hen *Another good one for practicing kanji. But I don't think it is a very good game, even for ToLoveRu fans :-/ Yoake Mae Yori Ruriiro Na (expanded version) Feena's and Estel's route are somewhat more complex than the others. NOTE: If it is your 1st (or 2nd) VN, don't worry about speed, only worry about your accurate understanding. You will gain speed automatically (I did). And assuming you want to learn as you read, if I were you I'd hide JParser so that it isn't visible all the time, or just turn off the furigana so that you have to mouse over unknown words. And avoid Roumaji. (Though I am a big proponent of Roumaji in the early phase of basic grammar and vocab, by the time you start reading VNs you ought to have left it far behind).

I took this program for about a 10-minute test drive and it is impressive...one of the best programs I've seen of this type. The upside is that so much is configurable. That's also the downside because I had to change several options before the thing would work the way I wanted to. It's much fancier than the little program I wrote for myself (whose only advantage is that it's multiple choice). Although I still plan to learn new kanji and vocab from a book, I think this will be a good tool for reviewing kanji and vocabulary, as well as kanji exploration and cross-referencing (which is something that is much more difficult with a written book).

This is an easy one for me. I'm lonely. The social skills which seem to come naturally for most people are totally absent with me. People used to say I was "just shy." But it's quite clear that something more severe is at work here. I only make friends when people accidentally find out that I'm friendly. It's certainly not because I know how to approach people. Needless to say, a successful romantic encounter is out of the question, since it requires a level of extroversion an order of magnitude greater than friendship. Even on the internet I feel alienated. At least the social aspect of it. When the internet is used to exchange useful information, that's when I feel the most comfortable. No wonder I tend to escape to the world of 2D, then. But in all the other areas of life, I still try to do the best I can. Because I know that in the world to come, all my imperfections will disappear forever.

CG just means Computer Graphics in general. What you're talking about there are called "Event CGs" not "CG Images" Also It's "seiyuu" not "sieyuu"

It doesn't, just like IRC, all it asks you for is a username. It generates an unique ID number and assigns it to you, but even IRC knows my IP address so...
