Don't forget that on DVDs/BluRays not only do they uncensor, they sometimes patch up the artwork in general... It's certainly not worth it for every show but for those shows you are just crazy about, it very well might be. I'm thinking of getting some R2DVDs from Japan for a few shows that were only available in below DVD quality...I know they're out there...but I don't know if I can get them shipped to me in an affordable manner.

There is a set of kanji called kyouiku (educational) that is a good first-order approximation of the most commonly used kanji in Japanese. It is taught in grades 1-6 of Japanese schools. Assuming for the moment that someone wants to study the core language (grammar and vocabulary) and the writing system concurrently (not in the same study sessions, but alternating days or whatever). Your writing system study could begin with hiragana/katakana and then you could proceed to learn kyouiku kanji starting at grade 1.

Looking For People To Learn Japanese through VNs

OK, although I decided to pass on the group, if you're ever on the Fuwanovel-related Teamspeak chat, I can talk to you there. -
Nikki Spade: "Onii-chan... Y-you don't w-want to eat what we c-cooked together...?" merely comes across as a girl with a stutter. U-unless you t-think that's on p-purpose?

Looking For People To Learn Japanese through VNs

I tried to write some comments in your message. It seems some of my comments ended up inside the spoiler tags, and some outside. Oh well! As for the sentences I'm particularly confused about: Not sure what you mean, I believe "dake" belongs to the noun class and hence is followed by "datta", but in doesn't really add to the English meaning. The -te verb doesn't modify, it connects. Like "and" or "-ing" does in English. I'm not sure if I should continue doing this because I have no feedback on where I'm misreading things. Maybe I should try reading a VN that has translated scripts so I can compare? You should have some feedback, in that you know whether or not what you're reading make sense, and furthermore, you can probably assign a level of confidence to each thing you read. I would not recommend reading a VN translation unless it was specifically prepared for learning. Such translations have often undergone editing, re-wording, and whatever else might make it hard to follow. Instead, I would simply recommend reading simpler material first and building your way up. -
I'm only curious, but what made you decide on the Heisig method?

I simply meant choose between writing "oniichan" or "onii-chan", as I recall half were one way and half were the other way. I can understand why you'd make that mistake, but it's more than a shortening, it's also a milder less insulting word. And I'm not sure that tone of voice should affect the definition of a word. If I yelled "Steve, you silly goose" vs. "Steve you ****-eating son of a b****" at the same volume, the meaning would still be different. But only one of those words is the equivalent of English "pervert", so I don't see how that can be true. That is true too. And it is often abbreviated in manga as "H". And I know people think that "H" stood for "Hentai". For a long time, I did as well, until I talked to a Japanese guy in college about this. Anyway I will drop the ecchi/etchi vs. hentai discussion now so you can work on the lexicon, it's good enough the way it is, because you really are concerned about the genres we use them for instead of the literal meaning. If someone is studying Japanese and wants to know more about this, you can PM me.

There are some typos under family titles Onesan should be Oneesan Please decide whether you will hyphenate -san or not. Imoto should be Imouto The sentence "Using no honorific is an honorific in itself" is both incorrect and unnecessary, I think. Technical term "CG" as you defined it is actually "Event CG" not just "CG" Ecchi ("H") is not literally "pervert". You're confusing it with Hentai, it seems. (It is close to the English words "naughty" or "dirty" when they are used in talking about something sexual)

I didn't mean "what animals do", but rather, knowing what we know about how nature works, there is a natural (biological if you prefer that word) reason for rules against incest. And surely you can build your philosophy of life off of something other than anime quotes. I know I do.
