Popular/well-liked visual novels that you don't like/care for?

Key stuff, I don't know why because i'm usually into the high-school romance VN, just Key doesn't mend with me.

I'm gonna join the Clannad bandwagon by saying that it was boring for me. From what I can remember, it didn't feel like I was progressing at all, I wasn't interested in half of the characters and all around just felt slow.

 

Y'know, I think this may be one of those rare times that I actually post on a topic that's VN related specifically.

Clannad, Air, Kanon: I don't know how good the story is, but the art sucks, and that's a nope for me.

Majikoi series, Grisaia series: Gosh, all them horrible jokes and tasteless comedy...

Fate series: Drop the anime, so have no intention of trying out the vn either.

Muv-Luv series: I hate mecha stuff. 

Rance series: I hate Sengoku-theme in general. And rape.

Steins;Gate: I can't handle that weird art style.

Ugh, too many...

Actually, I just checked the top 50 most popular title on VNDB, and I only played 9 of them, and I have very little care about the other 41.

I agree on Grisaia. The anime is a piece of trash. The novel seems to be better, but it shares the same shitty nature. I don't like.

Grisaia no Kajitsu, worthless protagonist, a never ending common route, doesn't know if it wants to be somewhat realistic or over the top, moments that drag on too long (like angelic howl) and characters that don't really seem human. 

All things Key.

Coμ, boring fights scenes , drags on.

Canvas 2, worse than Hitler and Stalin's baby.

Since the OP wants to keep it subjective, I won't explain why I don't like the following VNs and will just call of them absolute CRAP:

euphoria

White Album 2

Fate/Stay Night

Kara no Shoujo - the most crap of them all

Shuffle

Air

Those are the ones that come to my mind right now. Just thinking about them pisses me off. Time to go back to my fap material.

• Ever 17 (boring. People put too much weight on 'twists')
• 999 (boring)
• Sharin no Kuni (didn't like the main protagonist)
• Kira Kira (this plumbed new depths of boredom I had no idea existed)
• Clannad (didn't resonate with me. For example, love triangles don't interest me.)
• Little Busters (dull.)
• Shuffle (why is this even popular?)
• MGQ (trash)
• Fault Milestone (reads like your typical shounen, with a lot of the faults you find in typical shounen)

What else is there ...

Grisaia, for the reasons already mentioned. Boring common route that serves no purpose, appears to be realistic but has lots of over the top moments, and I didn't like the MC.

It's not a bad VN, I gave it 7/10 (only for Michiru route). But I don't think it's as good as some people say.

Key is very popular yet still has some serious weaknesses, that's why it's got so many haters coming out of the woodwork here. You're pretty much never alone, though I never did find someone to circlejerk with about why Taarradhin sucks so there is that.

The second half of the post could have well been from me, the first half... not so much. I wouldn't bash Fate or Kanon. Even if it's true that Kanon's VN art sucks nowadays, but I really liked the anime.

And bashing Key art while having an avatar of a character from one of the VN's with Key's most questionable art would be kind of bizarre even for me...
