I know there was a team working on it a long time ago, but they never got anywhere meaningful with it and I'm pretty sure the project is dead.

It's Kud Wafter for the correction. As for the translation project, did research a bit and find there's a translation project. It's dead though because the last update was from two years ago and there's no recent update. You could view the project page here. Hope it'll be help.
