    Marie's Tld VNs Corner

As everyone knows, I play a lot of VNs. Clephas has his threads to talk about untranslated works, and they're pretty neat. It's nice to get reviews on releases or just random VNs he plays. I'm probably the person here with the most knowledge of translated VNs, so I thought "why not give this corner thingy a try". So, here I am. Whenever I read, re-read or feel like writing about a random VN, I'll post those here. Hopefully the thread will be of some use to get everyone to play some more VNs~ I'll basically introduce some VNs and give my thoughts on them. The introduction part may be a bit boring for the people who know the VN already... But what I'm aiming at here is having people who don't know those VNs play them. If you already know the VN I'm talking about, you're not my target audience. If you can still have fun with the post, that's great, though <3 It'd be kind of weird to post the thread without any mini-review, though... Well, recently enough, I've been replaying Daibanchou. Daibanchou is a game mostly reliant on it's strategy RPG gameplay. Simply put, the story isn't good enough to keep you playing it by itself. A mostly generic story and underdeveloped characters make the story not enough to keep you going solely because of it. I would say that differently from some VNs where gameplay is something that complements the story, gameplay is the main focus of the game here. That and H-scenes. There are a lot of them. Now, Daibanchou is an alicesoft game. That's self-explanatory for many people, but alicesoft has their own, eh, style when it comes to telling a story... And that style is generally convenient wacky bullshit with ok comedy that eventually leads to serious story segments (that will generally revert to the usual wacky bullshit shortly afterwards). Still, their wacky bullshit is fun. It's not exhaustive to read, and the fights you'll be conducting should be enough incentive on their own to make you pass through those fun moments. In daibanchou's case, you have a badass protagonist with his badass crew fighting their way to conquer Japan and destroy the system to make something new. Meanwhile, our protagonist is recovering special, superpowerful buttons that came from who-knows-where that just turn out to be in the hands of large faction leaders to make his kuu-kinda-tsundere super fast wolf fiance go back to her human form. Getting those buttons will force you to fight your way through tanks, vampires, ninjas and pirates (or religious freaks, depending on which route you pick) and be a badass all through it. Also, don't mind the fact you do have a fiance. You're free to have sex with anyone. She doesn't seem to care about it. The other girls don't either. You have amnesiac katana-wielding submissive proper japanese girl with super regeneration, try-hard megane class rep who can capture enemies easier, loli doll magical-girl who hits from far away and gives tea to everyone, blonde ojou-sama political-ish leader who inspects countries and has lots of guts and ninja-girl whose route I never bothered to finish (what, reality is tough. I can't know about everyone ) I have this feeling there's another heroine. All of them have separate routes. And there are sex scenes with plenty of characters who aren't those too, just in case you're wondering. I also feel like I should warn everyone that mandatory rape will happen in this game (though not by the protagonist, differently from Rance). You're free to follow through all routes whenever you want, except for one of them. Your decision on which place to conquer in the second chapter will permanently seal one heroine route of two. The routes are easy to follow through once the girl appears in your harem (just have sex with her when you get the chance to. It's not hard) but getting the girl to appear in your harem can be troublesome. Oh, by the way, everyone got their superpowers when a hole to hell (or something like it, anyway) opened up in the middle of Japan a few years before everything started. Except only students got superpowers. Because reasons. What I told you so far is the basic plot of the game. There's a lot more hidden behind it. The hidden parts of the story are interesting... But all in all, you'll be playing to get the not-so-post-apocalyptic battle royale experience where your small group of badasses fights against small armies and other groups of badasses. All of them with superpowers or some other similar gimmick. The characters are fun, and even if you dislike them, you just don't have to trigger their events. You can even just fire a character you don't like if you don't want them to be in your army. The game gives you a lot of freedom in that aspect. The soundtrack is pretty neat, and I personally like the style (though I know it's not for everybody). All in all, if you like this type of thing, maybe you'll want to try out the game. I rated it a 9 because I enjoyed it a lot, though it's probably more of a 7 or 6.

  2. Thank you, Major! It's everything I could have asked for. And much more. I dedicate this hatemail reveal to you. I tried to keep the editing to a minimum, but I did censor the language and clarify one or two phrases. Sometimes the hatemail is so absurd I can't help myself and I respond. Doesn't happen very often, but it happened with this one. Enjoy, and please take your seats: the revelations in this exchange may be overwhelming. * I think he meant "or" * I can neither confirm nor deny this statement ** Trying to keep a straight face

  4. Why hello there, friends! Thanks to some urging in this thread and by PM, I have decided to periodically share with you some of the hate mail that frequently lands in my inbox. Sometimes it'll be about me, sometimes about Fuwanovel, and sometimes... I don't actually know what they're complaining about but they're certainly worked up about it. Periodically I'll put up a poll giving you a tantalizing summary of a small selection of options. Whichever of the options gets the most votes will be the one I share with you. Vote wisely! Note 1: I'm going to forget about this topic in-between rounds. I'm trying to make sure I'm more active on the forums, but there's still a ton of work behind the scenes to do, and then there's that whole "real life" thing. If you have a hankering for more hatemail and I've forgotten to put up another round, come find me! Bug me! I've got a thousand or so emails to choose from, so there will be no shortage of material : P Note 2: This isn't exactly a classy topic, so if somebody wants to class up the joint and throw together a logo (clip art, comic sans, magenta -- you name it), I'll have an extra dose of guilt when I forget to post here, and you'll probably see polls more often. January 20, 2015 Options (Final # of Votes): 1. Tay's Dark Secret (19) Link 2. Hanky panky in the staff forums? (18) 3. The email which inspired Tay's now-annoying "Ron Paul 2012!" joke (1) (is the loneliest number) 4. Maybe an insult? Maybe a compliment? (4) January 22, 2015 Options (Total Votes) 1. The Feds come a'calling. (10 votes [31.25%]) 2. Voted Santa is disappointed in you, Fuwanovel. (9 votes [28.12%]) 3. Lullaby (1 votes [3.12%]) 4. It's a trap! (12 votes [37.50%]) January 23, 2015 Options (Total Votes) Link 1. The trouble with kids these days (10) 2. Ghandi wouldn't stand for this (16) 3. Fuwanovel: The Worldwide Leader in Economic News (21) January 27, 2015 Options (Total Votes) 1. Do you believe in love after love? (26) 2. I can feel something inside me say... (19) 3. I really don't think you're strong enough, yeah! (13) 4. February 8, 2015 Link 1. I'm baaaaaack (12) 2. The guy who pretended to be batman (29) 3. The guy who pretended to be ryoji (10) 4. Option #4 from the last poll (6)

  6. Would skip if option was available, but have never done it so far as I am afraid to miss something important plotwise( Never happened yet though ). I remember sitting in class reading Katawa Shoujo. I had disabled the H-scenes(for obvious reasons). When the H-scene was over, Emi's sprite was shown naked. In panic I shut the computer's screen making a large sound, and everyone turned towards me . In short never trust disable H-content buttons. They are evil . Could be a bug though as I disabled them right before the H-scene. I also recommended some visual novels to a friend, and he said "My family think I am wierd enough watching anime, what would they think if they found out I read japanese 2D porn. I won't try it out. I'm sorry."

  9. Hello friends! Chances are that if you are reading this thread, then you know all there is to know about the many visual novel translation tools out there in the big world of Japanese eroge and are interested in mastering the art of reading your porn PC games by taking it to the next level. In this thread, I will provide a step by step guide covering the installation and use of the following visual novel translation materials: Translator Aggregator (TA for short) Interactive Text Hooker (ITH for short) Mecab Edict2 Now before I continue writing, let me be clear that this will not be a thread teaching you about the benefits of using programs such as the ones listed above. That being said, it will also not go into detail regarding the function of each program. If you are interested in knowing about the best way to start learning Japanese and reading visual novels, I recommend asking some of the awesome members of the community who have an extensive knowledge about how these programs work and ask them about which ones (if not others) they recommend and why. With that, I don't want to waste too much of your time, so let's get the ball rolling! If you are just starting out and have no idea what to do or what to get, simply follow this guide from start to finish after this point on and you will have everything you need in order to read visual novels with the programs listed above. If you have some of these programs and only want a few, simply jump to the appropriate section of each guide and everything will make sense from there. Here we go! Getting Started: Before you begin installing the following programs which I just mentioned, make sure you have the following items present and accounted for on your PC: An internet connection (like, seriously) A program that allows you to unzip computer files (such as WinRAR or another program of the same sort) A visual novel installed in Japanese for testing the programs (AKA: the game does not have any sort of English patch or partial patch which changes the language) A web browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome) that you understand how to use well STOP HERE! Did you get all the required items listed above? If you can't read this message, chances are you screwed up somewhere with the 1st one, making the rest pointless. Once you have all the items listed above, feel free to move on. Task 1 - Installing Translator Aggregator (TA): 1. Begin the installation by clicking on the highlighted link next to this text: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php/94395-Translation-Aggregator?p=3648894#post3648894<--- This one right here. 2. On this newly opened window in your browser, click the big link at the top of the 1st post on the page. Don't see it? Here it is: 3. Save the file onto your PC anywhere you want to. I normally save everything I download from the internet to my desktop, but this is completely up to you. 4. Once you have saved the file, open it with your already installed zip program (i.e. = WinRAR). Once you open the zipped folder, extract the content to a location on your PC. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE PARTNER! When extracting the content of the zipped folder to your PC, feel free to put it anywhere that you can easily access it. It does not matter where it is located, so keeping it somewhere you can easily remember is best. 5. Once the folder is extracted, it should look something like this: As stated in the photo, open TA by clicking on the application. 6. After opening the program, a list of windows will be displayed. Since I am only covering how to install the programs listed at the beginning of this post, simply close the ones you won't be using by clicking on the tiny little "x" in the top right corner of each program. Here are 2 images to show you what I mean: Upon opening TA: Upon removing the unneeded programs: Good job! Feel free to adjust the size of the window as you see fit because you will want to have this open when reading your visual novels. 7. Rejoice! You have successfully installed and learned how to operate TA. Whenever you want to open this program, simply locate the application's shortcut and double click it. Easy as pie! End Task 1 Here Task 2 - Installing the Edict2 Dictionary: After successfully installing TA, you are probably nervous that it's only going to get harder, right? Nope! Let's install Edict2 next because it's as easy as pie: Easy: Click this link: http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/edict2.gz. Wait for the page to finish loading. After it finishes, save the page by hitting Ctrl+S. Save it anywhere on your computer: As: Extract the file (if it is in a zipped folder) by using your zip program (i.e. = WinRAR). Once it is extracted, simply move the new file into your dictionary folder located in your original TA folder: Pie: Easy no? That's all there is to it. Good job! End Task 2 Here Task 3 - Installing Mecab 1. Another easy task for the least internet savvy people around, begin by clicking on this link: https://code.google.com/p/mecab/downloads/detail?name=mecab-0.996.exe&can=2&q=. 2. After clicking the link, download the file at the top of the page. It does not matter where you choose to save it (the desktop is generally a nice place): 3. After downloading the file, run the program and install it like any other normal installation. Simply hit the next button over and over again until you get to this screen: HOLY COW THIS TEXT MEANS THE NEXT PART IS IMPORTANT! Make sure the UTF-8 dictionary is highlighted before hitting the next button. 4. After this point, simply agree to the ToS and continue following the instructions until Mecab installs itself. Pretty easy stuff! 5. Finally, open Translator Aggregator and open the configuration settings for JParser. Make sure Mecab hinting is enabled: End Task 3 Here Task 4 - Installing ITH You're doing so well, so keep it up! This next task is a little more of a challenge, so simply follow these steps to make sure you don't miss any or make a mistake: Step 1: Begin by clicking this link: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php/208860-Interactive-Text-Hooker-new-text-extraction-tool. On this page, you will notice a lot of other links and random text. All you need to worry about are the following downloads: If it wasn't already obvious, download these files. Remember that they will be zipped and will look like this: Step 2: Open the spoiler tag posted below and follow the on-screen instructions! Remember that you can change the name of the new folder to anything you'd like. Step 3: Here is what your new folder will look like inside: Now, it's time to ask yourself if you are the proud owner of Windows 10! GOODNESS GRAVY! THIS NEXT PART IS IMPORTANT! Do you own Windows 10? If yes, read on, otherwise, proceed to Step 4. 1. Click this link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/qai2bden95yol6l/ith3-w10fix_v1.7z. 2. Download the file located in the link: 3. Extract the file using your zip program and move it into the folder you created as shown in the 1st spoiler tag of Step 3: 4. After replacing the program in the folder you created, proceed to Step 4. Step 4: Once you open ITH, click on the option tab at the top as shown below and make sure the "auto copy to clipboard" feature is highlighted. After doing this, simply close the program. Step 5: Almost done. Next, select the ITH updater as shown in your newly created folder above. When you open the folder, it will look something like this: Update ITH and update the profile by clicking on their respective buttons. You will know it is complete when the hash check has passed. After it is finished, simply hit the end button. Step 6: For the final step in this long process, let's test it out shall we? Start by opening the following programs: An untranslated Japanese visual novel The ITH program (always run it as an administrator by right clicking the program before you open it and selecting said option) Translator Aggregator With everything running, it should look something like this: After opening all of the programs, do the following as shown in the spoiler tag below: Next, click through a few lines to register them in the text hook process. I usually click about 3-5 lines to make sure it is working properly: End Task 4 Here Finally, the moment of truth! Does it look like this? If so, congratulations you've done it! All you need to do is follow step 6 in this process for every other game you want to play and it will hook the text for you. Have fun! And with that, the tasks are complete. Congratulations my friend, I have nothing left to teach you. Still, should you have any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread. On a side note, you may have noticed that I did not include instructions for installing ATLAS in this guide. If you would like to do that, simply buy the program located on the website and follow the instructions there. Sorry, but it isn't my place to provide guides for pirating content; if you'd like that, look elsewhere. That being said, thanks for reading, and enjoy. A very special thanks to Bolverk for providing all of the links in the Japanese resource thread located here, binaryfail for providing the ITH fixes for Windows 10 users, and to Down for doing what he does.

    Toggle for H Content?

Strangely (and perhaps hilariously?) one of the most successful threads on the boards (referring to google presence) was an old (and closed) thread about whether or not H content is a good thing for VNs. I get an email every now and then about that thread, including this gem from "Anonimous" (I take no responsibility for the spelling): Yes, Anoni. Yes I would. I'd support it because it would make them easier to share and play in public, and because the RenPy already has this built-in and it works very well. Here's what I'm curious about: how would you feel if there was a H content toggle in VNs? Meaning you could freely turn it on or off. Thoughts? Feelings? Outrage?

  11. I used the jlpt vocab lists for N5, N4, and N3. http://www.tanos.co.uk/jlpt/jlpt5/vocab/ As a starter, something like a verb list can be nice, since they often the most important words in a sentence. http://nihongoichiban.com/2012/08/13/list-of-all-verbs-for-the-jlpt-n4/ If you want to learn by category, it can be fun to learn words from here: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:1000_Japanese_basic_words. The words obviously aren't the most common ones, and there are some rare words, but it's still useful vocab. Keep in mind that the Japanese words, especially abstract nouns, are not used in the same way as the english words that are used as their definition. If you're already gotten a hang of word types and basic grammar, the Core 10k deck for anki (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/702754122) is a pretty good option. The pictures are from google search, and so are sometimes wrong, but the example sentences and audio are from native speakers.

She has her moments, but for god sakes please tone down on the head bashing <3 Series starts getting better/more interesting by episode 6 when they finally begin their quest for world domination. Or maybe I'm just a huge Jibril fan Ep. 9 was by far the most intriguing episode though. Will finish the rest tomorrow~ Heh.... if there is such thing as a second season to the series, you will definitely love me her more~~

There is a legend of a mysterious girl called "Girl A" who appears in the city and sings all night. One night, Akihito meets four boys and girls as if led by the Girl A.... There is no friendship nor trust between them, but they can control a huge iron monster as they like by combining their power. Since the day they get the power, their extraordinary life starts.... Akihito later knows that they will need to pay a price for the power. When the monster dies, their community will also disappear.... They decide to head for another world called Communet with a help of Kagome, a black witch... Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order 1st Playthrough - Route for Heroine 1. There is only one insignificant choice. If you reach a bad end then it'll give you a fun lecture and redirect you back to the choice so don't worry. 2nd Playthrough - Routes for Heroine 2, 3 and 4 will be unlocked after the 1st playthrough. New choices will be available, so start from scratch and save at the choices you encounter to return to; because scene select will not work for you if you're going in an order other than Heroine 2 -> 3 -> 4. Lastly, remember to go through Heroine 1's route a second time for new scenes after the 1st playthrough! 3rd Playthrough - Route for Heroine 5 will be unlocked after completing all three routes above. A new choice will be available. If you choose the correct choice, no matter what other choices you pick afterwards; you'll still be locked on Heroine 5 no matter what other choices you choose. There are a number of Bad Ends throughout the game but they are not important. If you do end up hitting a Bad End then the game will just give you a fun lecture and redirect you back to the choice you hit a wall with. It's actually pretty fun after hitting one so go find them! Route Guideline Takekawa Benio Good End Soejima Hisoka Normal End Good End Yuubana Mayuki Good End Ayaya Enishi Good End Hinaori Kagome Good End Attribution This walkthrough is based on the two versions Hackrabbits and sysBlank put together. Some info was attained on g-seeker.net and vndb.org.

    Period

Period Summary “Dear God, I now make this, the single request of my life…” The near future, Nagasaki. Into this city, with its long and checkered past was born a rarity: a child with wings. I don’t know when it started, but the school overlooking the town came to be known as hallowed ground and that is where we met. Though summer comes closer, there is nothing new, and a boring day just rolls on. But his boring life suddenly ends. He is forced to look for a key of the observatory. He reluctantly accepts it, but gets a little bit excited. An exciting feeling.... A hunch that something will happen. Just before the summer holiday, he meets her... Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order Period is based on a point system that awards points to each character depending on the choice you chose. For simplicity's sake I compiled all of the point choices into basic choices for each character. With the exception of one choice no points are taken for different choices but the choices will affect what summer you have and what heroine you get at the end. The choices below are only the ones that give points, anything I left out will have no impact on your route. Also note that some choices below may not appear depending on some choices beforehand. ★ means the choice doesn't matter in that specific route. There is no route order required to understand the story, but to get all the routes you have to play two characters at a specific point. Asahi will need at least two other girls AND Miyu's route completed for her route to appear. Koto's route will only appear after you complete ALL of the other routes. if you do wish for an order I suggest: Miyu/Yukina/Rin/Aoi/Kohane/Tsuzumi/Asahi/Koto Route Guideline Yazuki Miyu Good End Kawasaki Yukina Good End Kagamiya Rin Good End Sawatari Aoi Good End Koishikawa Kohane Good End Mizuhara Tsuzumi Good End "True" Route *Note that this requires at least two routes AND Miyu's to be completed* Onodera Asahi Good End Bonus Route *Note that this requires ALL routes to be completed* Sawatari Koto Good End Attribution This walkthrough is based on info attained on gamefaqs.com and tlwiki.org with some adjustments made by me.
