  1. Some of us have talents that supersede all others, talents which we may or may not realize exist yet. Are you a karaoke lover? A musical genius? Perhaps, an artist? Creativity comes in all shapes and sizes, and it goes without saying that music is merely a single form of creativity that exists in this world. Would your favorite visual novel or anime be complete without an amazing soundtrack to back it up? Enter Show By Post!!, a musical event on Fuwanovel that will test your skills as an artist and what it takes to make it to the top of the music world. Over the next couple of weeks, you and a team of highly motivated individuals will become the musicians - you will create a band here on Fuwanovel, complete with your very own musical group of members, unique instruments, album cover, and original single. The power is yours; you get to design your band from the bottom up. In the end, your band will be pitted against other teams in a grand concert that will be sure to sweep the crowd off their feet and make the panties drop. I've enlisted the help of the girls from Show By Rock!! to assist me in this task, where the next couple of weeks will see the website host a themed avatar group, threads, and pictures based on the new hit anime. Whether you enjoy the show or not, feel free to participate in the festivities at any time. As the week progresses, new threads will appear around the site discussing the show. As they appear, you will have the chance to discuss what you think about the anime, vote for your favorite character, and vote on the bands which will be pitted against each other later on. Keep your eyes peeled for these threads later on during the event. So, how do I get started? This event will be hosted over the next month or so, where tasks will be assigned every so often based on when members complete them. You and your group will have the chance to complete each task at your own pace, where it will be your job to work together with your team to create the ultimate band. To start, a pre-task has been given to you below. As the event progresses, new tasks will be listed here in this post, so keep a sharp lookout for them. With that, good luck, and have fun. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. The Teams: Bands: 1. Cyrillej1, Ryechu, rainismyfav, suikashoujo, Tiagofvarela 2. CruelN1N1, HMN, hsmsful, Kiriririri, Monmon 3. LinovaA, Nosebleed, Rose, The Major, Tyrael 4. Flutterz, KosakiFag, Nimbus, Satsuki, Turnip Sensei Solo Artists: 1. SoulJustin 2. SakashimA The Tasks Pre-Task: The 1st thing you must do before we get into the bread and butter of creating your band on Fuwanovel is to establish who will be on your team during this event. Teams should be no larger than 5 people, and no smaller than 3. Keep in mind that the number of people on your team does not reflect how many members are allowed to be featured in your band later on. In other words, don't confuse your team with the actual group you will be creating. Task #1: Task #2: Task #3:

  4. Just to be clear, the teams will remain completely dedicated to their respective projects. This merger was done to consolidate the series into one overall group, and various other reasons(crying and dowolf were already part of both teams, for example). I will continue to post updates as we have them for S, as I'm sure Heizei will do for A-1. On that note, proper editing of Momoyo has begun. Fixes to wairu's TL were lost amid a mental breakdown, so will have to redo those. Wanko's editing was delayed due to complications, and will resume after Momoyo. And finally, anyone interested in being a QC, please contact me. Write 2-3 paragraphs in as flawless of English as you can explaining what makes a good QC and why it isn't "early access" as so many think. Anyone who sends "i can qc" or something similar will be ridiculed. Include the word "zippy" in there somewhere, so I know you actually read this post.

  5. I'm not good at this kind of stuff but I figured I'd inform the community of the updates that have happened on the forum guidelines. Feel free to check the updated thread for yourself here Not much has changed but I'd like to point out the key changes: Several definitions were added at the bottom (may add more later) Rule enforcement system was taken down Several bullets were added under guidelines The most notorious one, the rule enforcement changes, comes from discussion and feedback among the staff and the LC and it is not meant to say "there is no rule enforcement", it's meant to say that we're not going to have a super specific program laid out on what kind of punishments you'll get for doing something. The reasons for this are to prevent loopholes and to allow more leeway for the staff to act when they see something is wrong in the context at hand. Our community grows each day and the environment changes, so instead of having to constantly upate the rules, we'll try to have the staff act as they see fit on it instead. Now I know this is likely not pleasant to hear for some, maybe a lot, but the staff is trying to evolve and make a good environment for everyone and the new rules created are meant to address concerns that popped up recently, so I guess all I'm asking is some trust from the members when it comes to enforcing the rules and dealing with problematic people. The Coliseum of Chatter rules were also discussed and while I did say they were temporary when I made them, no one really had any changes to suggest to the rules I wrote so I ended up leaving them as is and added just one more point in there, they should be fairly encompassing for the time being. There'll also be a rules post for the Anime & Manga bord going up soon because that board has never had rules and I think it's about time it had some. That is all.

  7. I have tried it with only few and newer VNs. (Dracu-riot, Aokana, HoshiMemo, Yosuga no Sora...) They all work like they should but I noticed that ITH stopped working after the latest W10 update. I don't know if it's only my PC or the W10. I guess you might want to wait for a while when it's ready and see if someone complains about VNs not working. Edit: Tried VNR and it works

  9. I liked TDR: Toko, Ep 0. It has flaws. I will tell you about them. But I liked it and I think the series is worth your investment. I don’t think I liked it quite as much as Fuwa’s official reviewer, Ryechu (you can read his review over on the Reviews Hub), but I definitely liked it enough to recommend you try it out. This post is meant to share my own impressions of the game and why I feel like the game deserved coverage. The best reason to get this game: Ginxhou. Seriously. Love her. Every moment of great hilarity involved Ginxhou, so should Lupiesoft ever sell a Ginxhou fandisk – oh please oh please oh please oh please -- I will so be there. Ugh. Fine. A little more info: I’ve called Ginxhou a show-stealing side character in other online spaces, and I stand by that. Ginxhou’s lines to fast food workers, deadpan sense of humor, wry wit, and innate fabulousness (manifested externally by two little glory-stars, shown above) made the game a pleasure. I genuinely looked forward to her next scene, time and again. At the end of episode 0, the two characters I came away caring about were Toko and Ginxhou. That’s not to say the other characters aren’t well-written (in fact I think Lupiesoft did a great job in writing reliable character voices), but the two of them convey their personalities more effectively than the rest. If you take a look at our interview with Lupiesoft, you’ll see that the Lupie team knows they’ve got winners in those two characters – so here’s hoping we get a lot more of them. World-building: I like the TDRT universe. It’s got an engaging cosmology and manages to intertwine a lot of great (and multicultural) folklore. Its very structure is intriguing: “Stanzas” as demon lords of hell, parasitic demons whose existence is given meaning from the human souls they ferry into the afterlife, hell being the true origin of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and hell-Earth parallel spaces. Doesn’t that make your imagination turn? It does to mine, and my second-favorite part of the game (after Ginxhou’s scenes) was when I started gaining glimpses into the structure of hell and the milieu of the series. Pacing: The game’s pacing is a little awkward. The first half of the game leads up to an engaging climax, but to my surprise (and, eventually, a little confusion), it turns out that wasn’t meant to be the episode’s true climax, merely a halfway-there point. The “true” climax comes at the end of the game, and to be honest, it feels rushed and a little forced. In the last half hour of the game you encounter new, key characters in rapid succession, and Nadia is (too) rapidly re-cast into a new role to prepare her for future episodes. I got the feeling that the Lupiesoft team was preoccupied by (and more interested in) the next episode (or two), and decided to power through the second half of Episode 0. That’s not to say it’s not interesting or worth reading – remember: I think you should buy this game : P – but it felt like a shame. I was starting to connect to the characters, and the change of (/inconsistency in) pacing was… weird. Music: I had a lot of fun with the music. It’s a serious draw for the game. If you decide to take the plunge, my advice is to pull out your headphones, turn up the volume a little, and jam out to the tunes. The soundtrack (available on Steam, as well) is really tempting me. I haven’t bought it yet, but I probably will. The idea of walking to school with the guitar-heavy version of the game’s theme is just too tempting to pass up. Self-Awareness: I think self-awareness is one of the game's greatest strengths. During the course of the game you'll get funny jabs at visual novels, the game itself, character designs, and even a little at the plot. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and unlike a lot of VNs which try this and end up feeling campy, TRDT manages to come away feeling fun. TRDT may not be perfect, but it is fun. That's worth a lot, by my measure. Conclusion: I’m not very interested in game scores. For me, the more important question is whether or not a VN is worth the investment of A) my time, and B) my money. Toko gets a “Yes, you should try it” from me, and I’ll tell you why: despite its flaws, the game is fun, the series has a truly cool milieu, and they end episode 0 with each character prepped for an intriguing role. I am legitimately intrigued about the next game in the series. I even care about a few of the characters. The game lasted me ~2 hours played across two sessions, and I consider $2.50 per hour of engaging entertainment which sparks my imagination to be a reasonable value proposition. The game is fun. And sometimes silly. And it has Ginxhou in it. On the whole, I think it earned its recommendations and positive reviews. ------------------- Play the game? What were YOUR impressions?

  12. Finally. Someone who actually considers value in their evaluation. Too many games with low production values or that were cheap to localize are marketed as being budget and/or value titles, when in fact the value proposition is pretty terrible. I would however like to remind everyone that Saya no Uta, possibly one of the defining VNs to ever see an official English release, sells for $25 and clocks in at ~10hrs. That's about the same "value" as this game (and I still regard that rate as pretty steep, even considering it was Saya no Uta). Is this game better than Saya no Uta? You're going to have a hard time selling me on that. And that's the argument I'll continue to make until the English scene manages to release a true masterpiece (or 10) that shows it can stand toe-to-toe with the Japanese VN market.

  15. This list won't feature the VNs in order of "how good they are". Rating them would be way too much of a clusterfuck to me. The VNs are not in their respective order. Meaning number 1 is not the best, and so on. 1_CHAOS; HEAD 2_Cross Channel 3_G-Senjou no Maou 4_Fate/Stay Night 5_Forest This Visual Novel is the easiest visual novel translated to get a bad ending without using a walkthrough- which just adds to the fun of it. It makes a massive amount of references to common literature, which makes it even better. 6_Katahane It may seem like an ordinary moege- the atmosphere is light, the story is full of cuteness, which you can note by the character design and soundtrack. It gets really good in the middle, and you'll be dying to know what happens in the end. A game with multiple perspectives, it's definitely one of the most enjoyable Visual Novels I've ever read. 7 Majikoi 8_Little Busters! 9_Tsukihime "You shouldn't tell lies that you can't even fool yourself with" 10_Swan Song A post apocalyptic Visual Novel. 11_Symphonic Rain It may seem like your ordinary moege. Trust me, it's not. 12_Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo (and sequel) 13_Sekien no Inganock Steampunk. An atmosphere full of mysteries and references that will make your head blow up. 14_Steins; Gate A visual novel that deals extensively with time travel and it's consequences. 15_Utawarerumono 16_Fault: Milestone (1 & 2) 17_Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni 18_Kara no Shoujo 19_Umineko no Naku Koro ni 20_Planetarian 21_Ever 17 Another top 10. 22_Remember11 It lacks in the ending, but otherwise the story of this VN has enough to easily become one of my all-time favorites. 23_Zanmataisei Demonbane 24_Rewrite "Could it possibly be rewritten, this fate of hers?" Another one that enters the top 10. 25_Narcissu 26_Grisaia no Kajitsu 27_Saya no Uta Only if you enjoy dark and messed up settings. 28_Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni 29_Eien no Aselia 30_Rose Guns Days (1 & 2) There are small sections of gameplay on this one, but you can skip them by pressing the space bar, so this still qualifies. 31_Sengoku Rance I feel obliged to comment on this VN before suggesting it to anyone. It's an Alicesoft title, which speaks a lot for itself... If you don't know how it's going to be like, well.. Kind of tough to describe. Lots of sex, including comedy rape. Alicesoft tends to make the whole story a comedy until right near the end, where things actually do get serious. It's worth checking out, if you don't mind Rance's personality. 32_Phenomeno Want a short VN that can captivate you for their whole duration? Here is it. Visual novel adapted from the youth horror novel written by Hajime Ninomae and illustrated by yoshitoshi ABe. 33_Ef- A Fairy Tale of the Two 34_Dysfunctional Systems Another one great for those who want short Visual Novels. 35_Daibanchou Another Alicesoft title. While Rouga is not near Rance's level when it comes to pissing off people, alicesoft's style is something which often doesn't please people. 36_Yume Miru Kusuri The endings pack quite a punch. 37_Kikokugai- The Cyber Slayer 38_Eden 39_Hoshizora no Memoria 40_Katawa Shoujo Yep, it's somewhat overrated. Still, the fact that it is substantially easier for those who are starting to play visual novels to read should not be discarded, and overall, the story was good. 41_World End Economica 42_YU-NO 43_Shikkoku no Sharnoth Yep, there is a minigame on this one. If you download a save data you can skip the minigame, though. So it still qualifies. Another VN that enters my top 10. 44_Muv Luv Alternative The first Muv Luv didn't have enough to enter this list. You should still read it, though~ MLA is definitely awesome. 45_Dangan Ronpa 46_Comyu - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku 47_Hanachirasu 48_Ayakashibito 49_I/O 50_Deardrops

  17. Indeed, I am here to make you suffer and you best expect some real torture. I am Tiago, Tiago F Varela. I am a Portuguese Anglophiliac Gentleman and I'm not actually called Tiago F. Varela, though I know someone who goes by said name. No, that is not meant to be a super revelation, to name myself by another persons name is a decision I kind of came to regret but I've got consent, so I suppose that is good enough. I had originally intended to have this be a very long post, as you can probably notice from the title, but no such thing, I've got nothing special to tell you chaps and there's probably nothing you really want to know either. If you're really interested in my life story you can check this thread: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/7666-tiagos-holiday-message-and-pretty-much-entire-life-history/ Besides my life story, the other thing I can mention is my experience on Fuwanovel. So lets go do that, a la Eclipsed: I joined Fuwanovel March of last year, though I think I found the forums around December of the previous. What did I during these few months consisted of reading every single post on the forums. Except the Love Live Thread, can't recall when that appeared but I always kept away from that place. Around this time I wasn't really working and we can assume I spent my every moment on the PC. I made my first post in a thread about Remember11, and this would make Funyarinpa the first member I ever talked to. Since then, he's been one of those who I would consider 'Fuwafriends'; one of those people I feel completely free to call an idiot with no remorse at all. Sometime after this I decided to make an introduction thread; from there, various members entered my head as people I noted throughout the forums. Examples are Nosebleed, who had an avatar of a loli with some kind of aeroplane fighter cap and that one I really liked, and other people like Maefdomn, Okami, Tom... And especially Aniki. This is the person who really got me into Fuwanovel with the Games and Chatter games. Beyond this, I became a member who occasionally posted only with the intent of making a point while mocking people, trying not to be taken seriously and banter around. I more or less succeeded and became know as a sarcastic grumpy man by some members. Since then I've softened up, admittedly, and I'd mainly blame it on: Becoming a Board Mod This was the first major change I had in Fuwanovel, I became a board mod (probably though some kind of random lottery) and used up all of my time meant to make witty posts and reading every single thread, instead spamming the staff forums and working on ideas and making stuff happen. It can be said I used up a lot of hours writing and thinking here. And this lead to some problems in real life when I came back to work. Around the beginning of the year I became a Global Mod and started to work on renovating a lot of the DevBoards. Once I finished that I pretty much disappeared into oblivion. I changed jobs, so I'm technically no longer a mod, and far as staff is concerned I did nothing until the end of last week, when things may or may not be starting up again... *hype hype* I don't know if you noticed, but over the course of this post I've been distracted by the TV next to me and I've written about a sentence an hour, with my trains of thought being cut off all the time. I humbly apologize for the scummy post thus far. Either way chaps, this is what I really wanted to do, thank everybody who has been my 'friend', admired idols or lovable idiots alike. List of my Rabid Fans (and people who I somewhat don't dislike too much tsun tsun): My condolences if you weren't mentioned. I guess you're worthless now. You better commit suicide to compensate for your sin of living. Either that or ignore my nonsense. And here you go. This will be everything for now, I'm tired of writing this, I've noticed I really don't have any memories unless I go look through my old posts but I won't bother with that so you get nada, zilch, niente and as I'd say in Portuguese, nicles.

  21. Seeing comments of cynicism and distrust about gaming here makes me really angry (frustrated might be a bit better). Nevertheless, I don't want to start a flame war and to each one his own. As for myself, I have never stopped gaming ever since I was 3 (currently 19) and my love for gaming has never faltered, nor have I gotten nostalgic. Allow me to elaborate: There are always good games out there, wherever they may be. You just have to find them. I think that nowadays it's just easier to identify the bad apples and they are everywhere, in all mediums. People complain about directors such as Michael Bay and Co. , singers like Nicky Minaj and Meghan Trainor or Lil' Wayne and Miley Cyrus, modern art that isn't as beautiful as the classics of yore. Is that all there is? No. Gaming has grown. More players are involved now than when there only big players such as Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc... Sure, there are easy formats that have become comodities and bland standards, although that does not mean that great things don't appear anymore. Game companies are geting greedier and caring less about the consumer and just producing cash grab sequels, of course, but we still have great creators and designers going around. Gaming isn't completely worse, you just have to separate the wheat from the chaff, moreso nowadays than ever. Tired of the modern military shooter? Wolfenstein: The New Order would like to speak to you. Want a deep, captivating RPG? Pillars of Eternity awaits you. There are many other examples and I won't go around naming things in which I am not proficient in, since RPGs and FPS are what I play now, mostly. As for my tastes, I don't think I ever stopped enjoying any types of games, I just began enjoying more genres. I still love Devil May Cry as much as when I was 12, Doom and Serious Sam as much as when I was 10, military shooters as much as when I was 14-15 and MMOs as much as when I was 16-17 (don't play anymore due to lack of friends). There are still many things to be played out there... you just have to find them Sorry for the wall of text and keep enjoying games, in whatever way you prefer!

  28. Nowadays I rarely get as exited about games as did when I was smaller but the rare times I get exited about games now, I get even more exited than used to. It was more like when I was smaller everything felt amazing, but nothing felt super amazing. Newer Games like Witcher, Persona and Dark Souls have been such unforgettable experiences. I literally locked up in my room to play them and could hardly do anything else because I was so immersed in them and experienced excitement that topped my childhood experiences. So in a way my passion has become more unstable. It's harder to get even interested in most of the games, I gave up on AAA titles years. I'm playing less and I'm buying less games, because I can't find games that I want to play. I mostly play JRPGs now, those games haven't lost their charm yet. I like that style of game play and story telling so I can play those even when I'm not feeling super exited.

  29. What in the hell is the dev team doing.. Making Ekko arguably the most bursty mage in the game aside from Leblanc, with a large AOE stun that doubles as a shield, a dash+blink, a passive that dishes out quite a bit of damage and doesn't have a cooldown, a projectile that can waveclear with extreme ease, slows, and does a ton of damage, and an ult that can get him out of almost any situation that doubles as a 1k+ nuke late game. Are they just shooting their loads at the keyboard and seeing what comes up, or what?

  31. If the review didn't give it away, I really did enjoy this piece, and for the price tag it was definitely worth picking up. Even if I hadn't received a review copy, I still would have dropped five bucks to grab this. My primary reason for enjoying this is the genre itself. I love music, and VNs that have it as a primary theme I tend to enjoy. I actually am going to sit down with one of the writers and have a nerd session with them - I'm really looking forward to it! I already voiced my dislikes - primarily the writing style and the character sprites, but after playing through the Prelude a second time, I can say that my list has not increased. I did catch a few things on my second playthrough that I really liked (namely some of the lower-key jokes), though my favorite girl is still Toko, with Ginxhou following closely behind. I just like Toko's reactions, and while I find more deadpan characters amusing, I do like characters who typically overreact to every scenario. I'm under the assumption that this price will remain the same for the remaining games, which would put the full thing at $20 for what I can assume will be around 10 hours worth of story. That's a solid number, and a great place to be. Though if they do add voice acting (there's discussion about it), I can see this number going up slightly. But even then, $10 a chapter is still a price I would be happy to pay for the entertainment.

  32. Personally, I consider Gamecube to be the Nintendo Golden Era. Dude, Mass Attack is the Black Sheep of Kirby. I'm a hardcore Kirby fan and even I didn't like it.

  33. As a self proclaimed robot, I like logical things. Forgoing logic in an attempt for an emotional appeal makes little to no sense. I really don't like melodrama. Seriously though, not once have I ever seen melodrama played correctly in a way that didn't make me cringe at someone's stupidity. Its part of the reason I hate the romance genre, and have relegated myself to only reading things that rot my teeth with their sugary goodness. Yes, but people have certain tolerance limits and common sense of what "exaggerated characters" are. Anybody can go look up the definition, but at what point do you personally make the distinction. Calling something sensationalist, exaggerated, and exciting is hardly objective. Also, please clean format when copying and pasting, or whatever you just did, it looks broken on dark theme

  34. That's why you don't ask other people what words mean, you ask the dictionary. People should stop having personal definitions. It just makes things pointlessly long. Drama- A serious narrative work or program for television, radio, or the cinema. Melodrama- A sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions. There you have it.

  35. "A melodrama is a dramatic or literary work in which the plot, which is typically sensational and designed to appeal strongly to the emotions, takes precedence over detailed characterization. Characters are therefore often relatively simply-drawn, and may appear stereotyped. However, because of the long timeframe in which the style has existed, and the variety of formats used, it is difficult to give a precise definition." Not really a clear definition, you can be sensationalist but still focus on proper characterization. The whole point of melodrama is to cause an emotional response on the viewer, it's not mandatory for it to be inserted in a simplistic plot with simple characters. Also simple characters doesn't equal bad characters either. There's just many situations where one could apply melodrama in, some work, others don't, but the general goal is always to cause an emotional response, so I guess in the end it's mostly about people's tolerance to exaggeration.

  36. We should only allow general Skyspear related questions and news posts here. But yes, the teams working on Majikoi will hopefully stick together and work on other projects once we finish with the entire Majikoi series. Also, Skyspear will likely be picking up other projects along the way

  39. That is a great analogy. To the point that the way I interact in this forum in many ways reflects how I behaved during most of high school. The only difference really is that while I have some friends that I hangout with outside of school, I don't communicate with people much outside of the forum. But again, that's mostly because I have a weird relationship with the internet, and I enjoy the freedom of being able to disconnect. Also, I am a bit more of a humorous personality irl than I am online. But despite the fact that people behave slightly different while online, I still agree with the gist of your point that forum interactions are eerily similar to high school interactions.

  40. Very well done. If you want, you can take classes on writing a lot and not saying anything. That is my field of specialty.

  41. Good news everyone~ Maji Translations has been consolidated to Skyspear (Cry, I'm looking at you) Neither team will have any of it's members or work flows changed, but the credit on VNDB and the header on the website that I'm having built for Majikoi S will both have the Skyspear Translations name. I would like to thank the entire community for all the continuing support for both projects. We hope to continue to bring you quality fan translations for a long time to come

  44. I'd rather hate on all the passive aggressive protagonists with no intrinsic personality than hate on a "douchebag" protagonist that acts on their own accord and follows what they believe is right for them. I just feel like the latter at the very least provides a more lively story. But maybe that's just me.

  45. Kaguya

    Least liked protagonist?

Yuuji is actually one of my favorite protagonists of all times. Gets into top 10. You don't read Grisaia for the heroines, screw them. It's all about Yuuji.
