Notate Bene: If my Santa hats aren't cool enough for you and you found a better one in your Google Images porn searches, then I can do that one as well, but make sure it's as simple as those above.Santa hats often don't fit perfectly into one's avatar because the heads of characters tend to be around the very top, causing the hat to be cut off, as in mine. If you think your avatar will be problematic in that regard, I suggest choosing a hat that looks more likely to fit. You can skip this part and go to the tutorial if you want: So after doing a lot of searching I finally found the perfect text hooker to read untranslated vns in the way I want to. Say hello to Chiitrans Lite *NOTE: Please bear in mind that there is no such thing as the perfect software, this program has some issues so it might be useful to your or not. I'm doing this tutorial because I found it very useful and wanted to share it. What other softs I tried and why they didn't work for me: Visual Novel Reader *The parser is awful. (biggest problem) *It uses a lot of resources, it takes a lot to load up. *I don't use 90% of the functions. *Checking the translated words is a pain and really slow, every time you hover the mouse on the words you need to close the tab with the translation. Translation Aggregator: *You cannot full screen and read at the same time. *The interface is old and it makes it awkward to read a vn with it. It is ok if you are studying or using it to help you out for something in particular but reading a whole novel in 800x600 is not fun... All the problems I had with those programs were fixed with chiitrans. So here is my tutorial How do I start using it? IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A GUIDE TO SHOW YOU HOW TO USE MACHINE TRANSLATION BUT TO READ WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A PARSER (I WON'T BE ABLE TO HELP YOU IF YOU NEED TO INSTALL ATLAS OR ANY OTHER MT PROGRAM) 1) Download the software from here: https://alexbft.github.io/chiitrans/ Install .NET Framework 4 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-ph/download/details.aspx?id=1785 and https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=40784 You can chose the .zip version which doesn't need an installation (portable) or the .msi installer. You don't need to download anything else! Atlas V14 if you want to. 2) Open the software after installing it or downloading it. You can either click on: A) and search for the .exe of your vn in your pc or click on B) and then execute the .exe of the novel, after that just click on C) Connect and the game will lunch. 3) Now you can use the text hooker that comes with the program itself (AGTH) which works perfect most of the times or use ITH. Once the vn is loaded it will automatically search for the text, if you don't see it click on "TL Window" and it will appear Select the correct text you want the program to show, in this case all of them were correct, sometimes it will show you one that it has the name of the character speaking, one that it doesn't, one with is just random garbage, etc. Don't forget to deselect the ones you don't want to use! You can also add codes for agth, once the novel is lunched just go into Options>Text Capture and there click on "Install user hooks" And that's pretty much it! What do I do if the program doesn't hook the text from the vn that I want to read? If the program doesn't find the text do this instead: First of all don't run the novel with chiitrans like I explained before just open the program and open the vn separately since you are not using AGTH there is no point in using chiitrans to lunch the vn. 1) Open the option menu > Text Capture> select "Capture text from clipboard" 2) Lunch ITH and hook the text of the novel (there is a tutorial at the end of this thread that will teach you how to hook the text with ITH) 3) Run the vn normally and that's it, it will automatically copy the text from ITH and pasty it on the textbox, don't use anything else while reading or it will start copying everything that you are reading. *If for any reason the program doesn't start grabbing the text from ITH, just select the text from the ITH textbox and click on copy and from then on it should work alone. 4) and that's it! Note: you can just paste text into the textbox if you want and use it as a parser for anything you want not just vn. Inside the program: Looking the translation is really easy you just need to hover the mouse over it, just like translation aggregator You can move the textbox wherever you want and make it bigger or smaller or make it transparent or just black so you can't see the background. When I go full-screen the textbox appears white, is not transparent anymore!! Help!! If the textbox changes to white when you go full screen do this. 1) Select with your mouse the menu where you can make the screen transparent 2) click on it. If you still can't fullscreen the vn and see the textbox at the same time, there are some novels (very few) that have this problem, for example Aster. There is a trick that works on some of them. For this you need Visual novel reader. 1)Download VNR from here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3YXxE6u-4bzc1RKWHpoLWZROTQ 2) Open your vn with VNR. 3)Once is loaded go to the side bar and click on the "FS" and use the one that suits you better, in this case was "fullscreen" and "padding" Tadaaaa When I go fullscreen I don't see the textbox Use romaji 1)Go to options 2) Parsing and select Latin You can translate words or names 1) select the words you want to translate with the right click 2) Left click and "Add new name" 3)Insert the word *This is really useful for me with names (I hate reading names) and katakana words, all the words and names that you add will stay saved and will be used next time they appear in the novel. You can add your custom list too: 1) Go to options > Parsing >Edit names... 2) you can add your list of words there, all the words and names you have added will be there too. 3) they need to be added like this: "タブー = Taboo" Sometimes some words are not correctly parsed To correct parsing errors do this (the program will remember this correction): 1)Select the text that is incorrect by selecting it with your left mouse button 2)Right click on the selected text and click on "Re-parse with selection" Finally using Atlas or any other online translator if you want (I will assume that you know how to install atlas, once installed the program doesn't need any configuration it will use it automatically): NOTE: *Here is a tutorial on how to install improve a little bit the ATLAS translation if you want: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php/79006-fhc-dictionary-of-ATLAS-Japanese-Translator 1)Go to Option 2)Translation > display both or just translation 何 wtf atlas.. H-CODES list How to hook up text with ITH: 1) Open your vn first and then ITH 2) Inside ITH go to Process and select your vn from the list 3) Click on Attach and then OK 4) Once inside the vn you need to read some text 5) Select from all the rows the one that shows the text you are reading on the vn, sometimes you will have many rows to select from others just a few, in this case only 2 6) Once you see the text is being displayed on the ITH textbox,open chiitrans lite (don't connect/lunch the vn with it!) 7) Click on TL Window 8 ) Copy the text from ITH textbox and you're done. Common problems with ITH that I know of: *If the text for any reason splits and you hook half and the other half comes after so it makes the reading really annoying just change in options the "split time" from 500 to 2000.

One thing you have to keep in mind about charities is graft and mismanagement... which are endemic to most. Over-hiring plus overpaying is one of the most common problems, and another is actually misusing funds or mismanaging them. There are charities out there that use less than ten percent (some use almost none) of the money they receive to fulfill the goals they state. Those Christian charities that put those commercials on 'spiritual television channels' about starving children are classic examples of this... some funds get diverted for mission trips, others for the advertising costs, and yet others go to the costs of filming all those mini-documentaries. In the end, far less of the money they take in goes to the actual sufferers than they say. Say you get a single child you can donate to specifically on a network... well, they receive multiple donations for that single child. However, since each of those donations is equivalent to what is needed for that child, the rest tends to disappear into mission trips and more documentaries. This is what I call 'ideological graft', because in the eyes of the people running these charities, helping these people's physical situation is frequently secondary to helping their 'spiritual' situation. These people honestly don't realize what they are doing, and for the most part, considering the relatively small amounts we are talking about, it is not as large a disparity as you might think in most cases, but it is still money that could have gone to help even more people with less donations. Some versions of these charities actually manage to finagle free plane tickets and free film-crews through connections, but for every one of those, there are two more that are misusing the funds they receive, at least one some level. In other words, good intentions don't always bring the best results. 'Charitable organizations' is a term that can be pretty deceptive... and without anyone involved ever being conscious of how something is wrong. This kind of blindness is a common malaise amongst the 'charitable' world... not to mention that just giving food out tends to have the result of destroying local agriculture and creating new starving mouths. Edit: Something to keep in mind is that the really good charities really are good... like the United Way and the Salvation Army. It is just that organizations with multiple ideological goals (the above example) tend to get derailed along the way rather frequently. On the other hand, those same organizations will frequently reform themselves from within, cutting back on those diversions of funds and expenses. Charities are inevitably a mixed bag, and management of them will frequently change like musical chairs, resulting in different priorities. Edit2: I generally donate to the United Way and the food banks here... I've had relatives who were reliant on food banks in the past. Also, I occasionally donate to veterans' charities... but finding one of those that isn't corrupt is pretty hard... and it changes from year to year. Sadly, they are one of the ones most likely to mismanage or misuse funding. Edit3: lol, if you couldn't tell, I got burned early on donating to a charity that turned out to be mismanaging their funds, so I got paranoid about charities in general after that... when I first started working, I had a lot of extra money for the first time, so I started donating to a charity for WWII and Vietnam vets... and it turned out that almost all of the funding was going to pay for advertising and personnel costs. They eventually got shut down for fraud.

First, I should explain why I felt a need to make a title like that... though it is really quite simple. Out of Lump of Sugar's last five VNs, three were complete kusoge. Only one of them was something worth remembering (Sekai to Sekai no Mannaka de) and the others were just downright rotten, due to their use of really stupid gimmicky progression systems (flowcharts with tons of scene-locks and going back and forth, Magical Charming's half-assed 'gameplay' etc etc) that ruined the games even apart from the actual quality of the stories and characters... which was generally pretty poor. This VN, however, brings back at least some of the magic of what made me like Lump of Sugar in the first place... 'soft' moe fantasy that has enough emotional depth to make me actually care about the moe-moe characters. While it isn't a nakige like Mannaka was (it is a light fantasy romance in the style that was popular back around 2005-2009), it is nonetheless a good read... for people who actually like this type of game. The fact that this is what I hoped for out of this company enhanced my enjoyment somewhat, but the general concept - which was weird enough to capture my interest - is what kept me reading... and the fact that the girls hit good moe points without being tedious about it (repetitiveness, endless dating, etc.). The fact that the events in this VN are presented in such a way as to make you actually care about the struggles of the characters that I would normally call trivial is one of the signs of a really good VN design, and I only rarely wanted to hurry things along (to be honest, Sera's route was kind of frustrating at times due to her... inability to deal with her own emotions, though it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the moege I've played in the past). So far, I've played the common route and Sera's route... and unfortunately, my plans require me to move on to Hatsuru (mostly because my back injury leaves me in a state where I don't have the presence of mind to do a lot of work through the pain meds) before I find out whether I have to have surgery, lol. If nothing else, I'll have something to look forward to when I've returned back to a level of health where a painkiller haze isn't interfering with my concentration. Sera's route... to be honest, it is hard to know how different it will be from the others, but is basic theme is personal growth and moving on with life. The ending's epilogue is pretty nice... especially since it is based at least several years after the end of the main story of her path. As I said above, there are some irritating aspects about the formative stages of their relationship, primarily driven by Sera's inability to handle her own emotions, but in the end, it isn't that bad. Edit: Oh, and if you are wondering why I don't give an outline of the basic plot/beginning of the story... its because this is one of those VNs that is way too easily spoiled by any summary at all. I'll be straight-up about this... if you decide to play this game, the vndb summary isn't going to be a problem (it is badly translated and doesn't give you any real info), but you should probably avoid checking out the information on purchase sites like Getchu, as they are pretty spoiler-heavy and this is a VN that is a better experience without the spoilers. It is weird enough that it is just more fun to sit back and read it as is, without a lot of pre-knowledge.

I think I had a small period like that after my first breakup ;-; With this kind of a situation I usually believe there's some sort of emotional fulfillment or attachment that isn't there, and so they end up a bit clingy because they have a hard time finding that elsewhere. Personally it's best if someone has some non-relationship goals or meaningful lives outside of romance or just that one person because then they can use that to support themselves along with their significant other instead of placing the burden of their entire emotional support on them.

The issue with Pulltop is every now and then it comes up with decent ideas that would make into nice stories, but execution is more than often very bad. They end up churning out crap moege or average games at most, with latter scaling on the side of "could be good, but they didn't bother". Some of their titles had prerequisites to become decent, quite memorable games, but their writers already gained solid experience at doing everything they can to prevent that from happening. I really can't understand Pulltop's agenda. edit: I was actually thinking about Lump of Sugar (Clephas' post reminded me of that, lol), but Pulltop isn't that much different, minus the Hitler part

I wonder if Kara no Kyoukai will ever get a vn adaptation... They have lots of source material from the LNs and Movies to make it into a real awesome vn. It's another Type-Moon work that I really love to see due to how bad ass Ryougi Shiki is.

I say the characters are the most important. Let's be honest, most of the stories have been told again and again, Joseph Campbell's monomyth theory as a proof, so originality is really rare and some VN tries too hard to have a complicated plot and end up being confusing. With good characters, even simple plots are enjoyable, especially humorous stories, because characters interaction are funny, not the plot. And for the drama, you need good characters to emotionally involve the reader, otherwise you just don't care what happens to them. But of course, as a picky reader, I want good characters AND story... and voice acting, music, design, H-scenes, etc. ^^
